Melissa POV
I don't understand what's going on one one hand is Devaro my long lost elder brother who has a thing for me on the other hand is Micage my twin brother who isn't exactly fit for the title he lacks so much but can still be trained. Then there is the possibility that the pull I feel towards that Lycan demon might be a mate pull. I mean with the madness running through my family surely it could be and let me not forget Molly, I still think she's Cage's mate.
It's just been yesterday since I last saw my supposed brother. He is after all still my brother, a part of my late father but still, he is the son of my aunt and enemy.
Meeting him I can't help but feel things like maybe he isn't really involved in all these. All master plan was made and executed by Alovia. He did say so himself that she was the one who sent the demons to my pack, and has been careless ever since our coming of age. All these just make him seem like the puppet and Alovia the puppeteer.
Micage!! I do hope he is alright. We were both captured and have been separated ever since. Devaro did say we will meet during dinner but I can't wait. No I can't be just sit straight and wait.
I had opportunities to kill Devaro and take the throne yet I couldn't, I feel as though there is more to him than just his memorizing blue eyes and also there is the new Prophecy which he seems to know more about and I feel the secrets of this palace hidden behind closed walls like how are the Lycan demons made and who is the demon Alovia made a deal with years ago.
This mission was far from over or even close to being solved.
'Shift'
Lyca suggestion was like a breath of fresh air even though Devaro told me to stay in my room, I was never one to listen to anybody so I stopped my pacing and headed out the door.
As expected, those two lycan demons are posted there this ones different from the other, the robotic man-beasts and they were alert towards me.
"Am going for a walk",
It was useless talking to them when they couldn't talk back but I wanted them to know my intention so I don't have to take dramatic actions later.
I walk forward only for them to block my path. Am so glad I chose to wear back my jeans and not the fluffy gown placed on my bed.
Ever since my shift its been more easier to morph to a Lycan or a full wolf. My claw got sharper and more comfortable to use.
"I'll suggest you back off or I rip your heads off your neck and trust me it will be quick and easy"
I could feel Lyca lick her lips in anticipation. Threats were my specialty while action were hers.
"Strong threats from a beautiful lady is unbefitting for a lady to say. Your majesty"
A shiver was quick to rake through my flesh at the sound of his voice. A strange longing filled my heart. He was different from the two demons in front of me but I remember him from that night.
'I'll find you and when I do I'll never let you go'
His haunting words to me, back then I wasn't prepared but now after my shift I was so sure I could take him down.
But could I really kill this mysterious male in front of me that had my wolf on edge and me fighting my inner demons to not mark?.
He had long dark brown hair and silver grey eyes. Who would ever forget this hunky of a man with more tattoos on both his muscled arms. I seriously don't understand why its getting difficult for me to kill this man and Devaro all my troubles would end if I do.
"Who ever said I was a befitting proper lady",
I glared at him angry with myself for even feeling that pull towards him.
"True, your highness",
His grey eyes accessed me from head to toe almost making me self conscious at my repeat of clothes.
"But you are a lady, a princess and soon a queen. Your highness"
The way he said the word queen brought a pleased shiver and Lyca to let out a mewl of satisfaction there was something dangerous in his eyes that called to me, pulled me closer to him.
I snapped out of it not willing to give him the satisfaction that he affected me. So instead I rolled my eyes.
"Am going for a walk"
I walk pass him not waiting for a reply and just kept putting space between us.
'He's hot'
'Seriously Lyca since when did you ever become horny over a demon'
'He is no demon. He might be our mate'
My brown twisted at the word 'mate' along with a shiver I try hard to suppress.
'We don't need a mate now in our lives Lyca'
'I know but still he's hot'
I smiled a fond smile at her.
"Where exactly are you going, princess?"
Far far far away from you and your good looks.
"Away from you"
He chuckled
"Cute but king Devaro sent me to give you a tour of the palace, princess"
'Cute? Why you'
"Where is Devaro?"
"His highness is getting acquaintance with his younger brother"
My eyes widened, that Silone was a sure bitch, no wonder I still can't feel Luca, its part of the reason Lyca has been restless.
"Where is he? Where is Micage?"
"I can not tell you that. I was only sent to give you a tour by King Devaro"
I growl a deep growl already feeling more than frustrated when I couldn't get a scent nor feel the bond towards him.
I need fresh blood.
I saw my reflection in his eyes my shift, I was quick to find a nearby window and thundered towards the woods, brown fur and glowing eyes with a demon on my tail, a demon I wish not to know his name.
**********
Dinner finally came, I agreed to be dressed up once again by the she wolves who still refused to speak a word or look me in the eye, it was unnerving and yet pleasing.
The smell of food filled my nostril along with another scent that fastened my legs into the hall in time.
I felt the relief filled me up as I gazed back at the familiar sky blue that I suddenly found I missed. Lyca did that out of body soul thing again reaching out to his wolf.
'Luca'
Showing of affection has never been my thing but the need for contact at this moment were stronger than my arrogant ones.
"It's good to see you are alright, sis"
Micage murmured into our embrace, relief thick in his voice also.
"Why isn't he dead yet?"
He added in whispered tone, hoping they wouldn't overhear him.
"This is indeed a sight worth seeing, don't you think so Igaro"
"Indeed my lord"
I removed their words or existence out of my head and focus mainly on Cage.
"How are you feeling?"
He must know what I was really asking about because he scowled next.
"That Silone is a bitch and that Devaro talks to much it's almost sad"
We shared a look and immediately understood each other. We didn't need the mind link to know what the other thought and concluded from our short talk with our brother.
"Have you tried getting into his head?"
Cage shivered,
"As much as I didn't want to, I did try but like you I can't read his mind"
"What about that Lycan demon?"
I jerked my head towards Igaro still refusing to call him by his name.
Cage's brows furrow,
"His walls are strong, it will take some time to break through"
Strange.
"Kids, come on lets eat before dinner gets cold"
We both sent a glare before reluctantly sitting down beside each other and away from him. He sent a smile our way, one that didn't reach the eye.
"So Hope and Fate reunites again, don't worry I already read the prophecy but I can't help but suspect it isn't complete well I do expect you guys can enlighten me, huh?"
We kept quite avoiding his gaze, our lack of trust pure in the surface .
I heard him clear throat before raising the same goblet from last night up in the air.
"A toast... To being family"
Lyca sent wave of uneasiness, she looked down at her goblet sniffing the content to realize it was real red wine but Cage...
"What the fuck man!!",
His shift was fast, Lyca also shifted with his. We both bared out fangs at him eyes furious in anger. I can only imagine what he saw and felt.
"Hmm, how interesting", he purred out staring at us like unique specimen.
"Whats the point in making us drink this stuff",
I accused bitterly not wanting to sugar coat anything with him.
Like I ever sugar quote.
He took a huge gulp of the drink before regarding us.
"That stuff there is demon blood, good for Lycan"
"Well thanks but no thanks I'll rather remain a vegetarian than drink any poison of yours".
Micage insult stung.
Devaro face became blank at the obvious disrespect we gave him.
I dropped my napkin , more pissed.
"Am out of here"
I stood only to be stopped by a demon and this wasn't Igaro.
My claws were out as I caressed the fur of the Lycan demon.
"I would suggest you tell your minion to get out of my way before it gets bloody.... Brother"
The Lycan demon shivered. Its hair rose from the deadly threat.
"Sit, Melissa"
I turn to glare refusing to take orders.
"Sit now"
The growl was sharp and loud. Lyca was furious.
His eyes found me when I didn't want it to but unwillingly I sat and so did Cage but our guards never settled.
Before long we all engaged in silent eating, tension still clear in the air.
"Can I ask you something? Devaro?"
He frowned at my reference.
"No you can't, we are eating and do call me brother"
I ignored him,
"What makes that lycan demon beside you different from the other Lycan demons"
He had an amused look on his face.
"Igaro is one of the first few experiment produced by mother"
"Meaning?",
Micage was also interested.
"They are the perfected experiment of mother while the others you see are almost complete".
"What makes them so perfect?"
"Thats something only mother knows of"
"Why do you make the Lycan demons don't you know its a curse of imbalance in this world".
He smirked
"There was a time when Lycans were much in numbers and of variety, they weren't in pack but still ruled over the werewolves yet they were submissive over one Lycan, who was stronger amongst them and held great powers. The Alpha King, a king amongst Lycans and Alpha amongst wolves. Then a time came and the Lycans were decreased"
"So you are trying to say the Lycan demons are a replicator of the Lycans"
"Exactly"
"That's messed up"
"Mother didn't think so, well since nobody wanted her or obeyed her rule she decided to build her own army"
"But an army made by demons who aren't to be fully trusted"
"That is a question you need to ask mother though I don't think she will tell you"
"What happened three thousand years ago, what caused this war?"
The food was already long forgotten at this point at the mention of story telling which Devaro was more than eager to tell.
"War has always been in this world from its birth, war was always there between the werewolves and the magical creatures known as magicals and mages, the two species despised each other and was always at each others neck for centuries until one day they decided they have had enough war and went for peace.
Then came the Lycanthrophes, powerful beings and untamed they had come to strengthen the rule of the werewolves they were still with the option of peace but the Magicals didn't, They feared the Lycans especially the Alpha King and fought against peace.
The Lycans still hoped for that peace but stopped when they found out about the Magicals relationship with the demons, demons who were not to be trusted and brought more destruction than peace. Just as the Magicals were light the demons were darkness and together they wiped out almost the entire Lycans"
"It started with war,
Pleaded with tears
Now it ends with blood"
The prophecy flowed through my mind, glancing at Cage I can say he thought the same.
Unknown to this Devaro continued,
"The mating of dear sweet aunt Ivory and Father, queen of the powerful Davister clan and king of the Lycans shifted together an alliance, slowly peace grew amongst the two species along with inter-species relationship.
Its quite catching you see, a weak powerless magical was able to do something that hadn't been done in years, she was the reason why some Magicals were able to live amongst werewolves just like that Valsher pack, I heard the Luna was an earth Magical but also a strong fighter. All that was made possible by aunt Ivory"
Devaro had a look that looked like he was reliving a memory with their mother.. It made them wonder how old he was when their mother was alive.
"Jealousy being one of the demons power corrupted my mother and together they created the imbalance. The demon are desperate to destroy us all".
"But why? What did we ever do?"
I asked, the same pressing question that had bothered me through out my childhood.
"We shunned them and locked them up on an Island. Ever heard of the dark forest?"
We both nodded. Who didn't, it was what elders used to scare little kids at night.
"That was were the demons stayed until they became more greedy and came here to turn this world theirs".
It made sense now but not the fact that Devaro was telling us all this and hasn't showed any sign to hand us over to the demons to stop the prophecy before it start.
"And you have help them, what makes us so sure you still aren't on their side"
One has to be suspicious, always be on guard.
"I admit I was carved and brought up by their influence but I desire my own power were I don't have to be anyone's puppet, I am also a victim here, I mean what do you think makes the Lycan demons"
We gave him a look which he laughed at.
"The blood of a pure Lycan line, the last as it is. Lycans magic runs in the blood and not spells like the magical"
It all made sense now we were all victims.
The accusation Emily made came rushing in. Devaro was never truly king, Alovia took that away from her own son.
"What happened to Valsher pack?"
She had destroyed my hometown though I knew why but still.
"I can assure you that they are all dead and are being reincarnated by Erasmus, the lord of the demons".
Horror shone in my eyes mostly because I didn't want to see a Lycan demon version of Master.
"Can't you stop the process?"
"Dear sister there is nothing I can do".
He blinked slowing at them, tossing his food around on his plate.
I could only hope that Xander, Lydia and the others didn't encounter them, I hadn't heard news from them and my heart ache at the possibility but still I can only hope, after all I left them with an army of protection.
"I can assure you little sister I am on your side, I want nothing more than to be free from them"
Nothing was said without a price, the look in his eyes said so.
"What do you want in return?"
"Oh my! You hurt me sister"
My glare told him there was no hiding it, I fucking saw right through him. I wasn't a fool.
"I want the throne and a family"
Micage blinked,
"A family?, hows that possible?"
Devaro looked serious and determined.
"I want you both to consider me as family"
"You can't force family on us and beside we are already related only by blood"
Micage latched on.
It was true after all. Emily even though wasn't his real mother will always be his mother and Cole his brother.
"Blood isn't always family but acceptance"
'What a stupid request',
I though it was stupid but looking at his state I can see why.... Besides it was all or for nothing.
"Do we have a deal?",
He pressed on pinning us down with a cool look trying to hide how desperate he wanted our acceptance.
He was no demon, he was no devil but a deal with him almost sounded like one.
Cage and I both shared a look, communicating through our wolves.
"You have a deal"
We didn't shake on it and though we wouldn't but Devaro had other plans, he stretched out his hand towards Igaro who handed him an old crafted knife, letting the sapphire jem twinkle in the light, Devaro then cut his palm letting his blood flow down into his goblet.
I could see Cage turn pale, his color changed looking somehow green,
"What the fuck is that? What the hell are you doing?"
"Demon blood mixed with the rarest plants like balehae can do a lot of wonder in strength, now mixed with my blood and soon yours we have made a blood oath. After all magic runs in a Lycan's blood"
"That's so fucked up",
Micage could only gag wanting nothing more than the food he ate to come back out or not he look sorrowful for even thinking of wasting food still the urge was there. He was confused. Stuck in between.
I acted all neutral, it was a regular occurrence in the assassin world, blood oath meant no turning back and it was unbreakable.
Devaro passed the blade to me, a cool smirk on his lip as his blue eyes regarded me. I took it without hesitation cutting into my palm and letting the blood flow. I then passed the blade to Cage even though he was disgusted by it, he puffed out and cut into his palm letting his blood flow.
Devaro took a drink.
"Don't fucking tell me we are going to drink that",
Cage partially yelled looking more Whittier almost a ghost as he watch Devaro then followed by me.
"How else does that make it a complete blood oath, little brother"
Devaro jested.
"But, but"
His eyes darted anywhere else, trying to look for an escape.
"Oh! Stop being a weakling Micky and drink the stuff"
That did it, with anger he drank.
The blood oath was made making clear more of the complications placed in our lives, like for example what was I to do with the grey eyed hot mate staring at me with hunger.
