Chapter Five

Feeling the boys breathing catch underneath my arm, I push him against the wall.

"Who are you?" He looks down at the knife. Adjusting the knife away from his neck so he doesn't cut himself when he speaks, he swallows and responds.

"The name's Desolin." He has a mischievous grin on his face. "You're lying. That's a West region name. "Who are you really?" The boy looks down at the knife again. "Move the knife and I'll tell you the truth." Glaring, I move the knife away from him and step away.

"Now tell me, who are you and why were you following me?" The boy shrugs and tries to look under my hood. "I told you. My name is Desolin." Backing away from him, I pull my hood down. "Explain why your name sounds Western then."

"My mother is from the West, my father from the East. As Simple as that." Drawing my knife again, I point it at him.

"Why were you following me then?" 'Desolin' sighs. "Because I need to find something out from someone and you looked like her!"

"You can't even see my face." He raises his hand in a 'whatever' gesture. "That's why I wanted to know if you were her!" Frowning, I sheathe my knife. "What do you need to know from this girl?" Desloin glares at me.

"Why do you want to know?" Leaning against the wall, I shrug. "I might know the information you need. So, what do you need?"

"Just some information on a few things I heard about. I met her on my way here." Letting out a heavy sigh, I push against the wall and walk away.

"Okay. I can't help you with that little of information. Don't follow me again." Turning the corner away from the alleyway, I think about Desolin.

"That can't be his actual name. It just can't." Grabbing onto my hair, I twirl it around my finger. "I wonder what girl he was talking about."

In the woods Zion could hear the wind blow through the trees….

——————————————————————

Still being in the woods when the sun goes down, I huddle close to Pennily. Being in the woods at night is not smart. At night, the predators come out. The one's with big teeth and the ones that will rip your limbs from you as you lay on the ground, alive.

Shivering at the thought, I try to close my eyes and get some sleep. Failing, me and Pennily lay awake in the forest, staring up at the stars.

There's a crack of a tree branch from behind me. Looking behind me slowly, I think of the last time there was a snap of a tree branch from behind me. Snapping back to the front of me, there's nothing there.

Letting myself relax, another branch snaps, louder this time. Then there's a voice.

"Zion?"

Grabbing my knife, I stand up. In front of me is a bright fire lantern. Not being able to see who is holding it, I back away.

"Who's there?"

"Zion! It's me, Cadence." The shine of the lantern goes to the ground and I see Cadence. Letting the knife fall out of my hand, I sigh.

"Thank the gods. I thought you were that voice from earlier." Cadence walks to me and frowns.

"What-" He trips over Pennily. In the dark, he couldn't see where he was stepping.

Running to Pennily, I make sure she is okay as Cadence sits on the ground, stunned.

"Thanks for checking on me. Your rescuer!" Waving my hand, I whistle and Pennily stands up.

"You're fine. Thanks for saving me though… I thought I would have to be out here all night." Cadence stands up and grabs the now dimmed lantern.

"You're welcome. We both know the animals that come out at night." Nodding to the lantern, I hand him a small pack of stick lighters. "Don't want that to go out." He nods at me and lights up the lantern.

"So. You know how to get home, Cadence?"

Back in the alleyway, Jaylin still feels the knife on his throat....

——————————————————————

After the girl left, I realize all the holes in my story. Making it up on a whim, it was bound to have problems. Groaning, I walk away from the alleyway and back to the Inn.

Still not knowing where the girl is, I think back to when I met her -Well; I think it is her. You couldn't tell.-

She just bumped into me, forcing a piece of paper in my hand. When I opened it, there was only a date and time. No destination or anything.

Since I didn't know what it was for, I at first crumpled it up. But when I saw that the other side had a note on it, I kept it.

The girl knew my name, age, height, and even my weight. No one knows that about me except for the king's second-in-command.

Holding the note up to my face, I examine it, like the times before this one.

Jaylin Fylanin

Age: 15

Weight: 110

Height: 5'4

I have information for you about the papers you stole. Continue to your next destination.

3-4-5th generation {21st century. Each generation lasts for one century}

9:50 3rd time

{Thrid month, fourth day, 2121.}

Frowning at it, I throw it to the side and lay down on my bed.

"I need to find that girl soon."

In the castle, Cadence thinks of the pendant...

——————————————————————

Me and Zion got back to the castle safely. We went around the orcs, through the bog, and made it out to the Redingale river. From there we headed straight until we found the outer ranks of the villages.

Zion held onto his saddlebag the whole way, making sure it didn't get wet. If he has the pendant, that's where he is keeping it. A few times I asked if he wanted me to hold it. Each time he said, "No, I got it."

Once we got to the castle, he took a round cloth out of his saddlebag and put it into his pocket, making sure no one saw it.

He is now sitting in his room why I try to make up a plan to steal it from him. There's now way I can tell him it is mine. I have to make it look like Zion lost it. But… He never loses things. Zion will know someone took it.

Sighing, I think of my only option.

Whispering to myself, "I need to lie to him." It'll be hard, but I have to if I don't want my uncle to hurt him.

Clapping my hands, I lean back in my chair.

"Time to make up a lie…"

By the garden, Lilac fumbles around in the darkness…..

——————————————————————

Getting past the guards is a lot easier this time. Both of them were asleep, leaning on each other with a bottle of venge between them. It's dangerous stuff that's before. Makes you go crazy.

After passing the guards, I have to fumble around with the lock that leads to the kitchen. It's never locked, so I never have to worry about this. But, unfortunately, today I do.

Thinking after I get into the kitchen, it would be easy to get back to my room. I thought wrong. Underestimating the cook; when the door finally opens, she is standing there. A bowl in her hand and her eyes staring me up and down.

"Nice to see you down here." She says in her annoying western accent.

"Didn't know you wouldn't have finished by now." Walking sideways and owards the door, the cook turns away from me.

"Didn't even see ya, honey." Clasping my hands togther, I bow from behind her and run out of the kitchen.

Using the servants staicase, I get to my room. The guards have already left, leaving me an open path to my room. Running to it, I open my doors. Well, try to; they won't open.

Then, remebeing the most important detail of the night, I hit myself.

"The doors are locked Lilac!" Hitting my forehead on the door, I hear the guards footsteps.
