Jess woke up in the middle of the night due to some strange noises going on in the other room. She looked at the in-table seeing how the apple core she placed there was gone.
'Someone must have thrown that away when I was sleeping.'
She got up out of the bed as she was curious about the unknown noises in the other room. She tip toed as she didn't want to wake anyone. She kept walking until she heard the noise a little louder in the kitchen.
'What is that?'
She placed her hand softly on the door, she slowly opened it hearing a loud creek. Peeking in the room she wish she hadn't as she saw the man hunched over ripping into a torso of a woman. He was hovering over a freshly cut off leg as well.
Jess froze as she didn't believe what she was seeing. The man that took her into the home... Eating a.. human? Jess couldn't move as the man looked up at her. He dropped the piece of flesh as he stood up hovering over her. He pulled off a wicked smile showing skin and meat in between his teeth. His mouth was dripping with fresh blood and falling flesh. Jess had a massive head rush as she fainted right on the spot.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jess groaned as she woke up hearing thunder and heavy rain outside.
"Ohhh, it was... just a dream. Thank god." She said to herself. Her heart was beating out of her chest as she was relieved it wasn't real. She was about to lay back down but she stopped when she heard soft crying coming from the other room.
'Someone is crying... Should I check on them?'
After about 2 minutes, the crying didn't seem to stop. She felt more guilt build up the longer she heard. She couldn't help but check on whoever was crying. She got off the bed while making her way to the source of noise. When she approached a door she peeked seeing a silhouette laying on the floor.
She walked in the room while hunching near the crying child.
"Hey, why are you crying little one?" Jess asked very softly.
She saw the silhouette turn to face her. She felt hurt when they turned back around and said nothing.
Jess felt saddened that he was sleeping on the floor, let alone crying.
"Do you want me to lay next to you. Keep you company? I hate to leave you alone and sad."
The boy remained silent.
"Do you want me to sing you a lullaby?"
Jess felt her heart flutter the moment she heard shifting noises coming from the boy as he was now facing her. She smiled sweetly as she sang the common song her sister would sing to her when she was little. She sat on the floor next to the boy hearing him snivel. She spoke as softly as she could not to disturb the others in the house.
'Little child, be not afraid
The rain pounds harsh against the glass
Like an unwanted stranger
There is no danger
I am here tonight'
Jess placed her hand softly on the boy's head while brushing his hair with her fingers. She smiled as she heard him softly sigh.
'Little child
Be not afraid
Though thunder explodes
And lightning flash
Illuminates your tear stained face
I am here tonight'
She grabbed the blanket tucking him in softly making sure she didn't crush his fragile body.
'And someday you'll know
That nature is so
This same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land
On forests and sand
Makes the beautiful world that you'll see
In the morning'
She slowly scooted closer to the boy playing with his hair as gently as she could.
Little child
Be not afraid
The storm clouds mask your beloved moon
And its candlelight beams
Still keep pleasant dreams
I am here tonight'
She lowered her hand to his face while lightly brushing her soft fingers on his face very gently.
'Little child
Be not afraid
Though wind makes creatures of our trees
And their branches to hands
They're not real, understand
And I am here tonight And someday you'll know
That nature is so
This same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land
On forest and sand
Makes the beautiful world that you see
In the morning'
She softly laid next to the boy hearing his soft snores. She smiled sweetly as she continued the song.
'For you know, once even I
Was a little child
And I was afraid
But a gentle someone always came
To dry all my tears'
She said while wiping his tears away.
'Trade sweet sleep for fears
And to give a kiss goodnight'
She leaned in kissing his forehead sweetly.
'Well, now I am grown
And these years have shown
That rain's a part of how life goes
But it's dark and it's late
So I'll hold you and wait'
She said while wrapping her arm around the little boy.
'Til your frightened eyes do close And I hope that you'll know
That nature is so
The same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land
And forests and sand
Makes the beautiful world that you see
In the morning Everything's fine in the morning
The rain will be gone in the morning
But I'll still be here in the morning'
Thunder was heard outside but the little boy didn't flinch. He was fast asleep. The view warmed Jess's heart. "Good night." She softly said while making her way out of the room back in hers for the rest of the night.
