Jess woke up to something poking her arm. She opened one eye while squinting. She rubbed her eyes as she slowly sat up and stretched. Her eyes slowly adjusted to the dark as she saw a small silhouette. She felt a hand on hers forcing her to place the palm of her hand upwards. She felt something being placed in her hand. She looked down seeing it was an apple. She smiled as she looked up at the silhouette with a small tear falling from her face. At that moment a noise outside the door caused the boy to panic as he ran outside the door quickly making his way back to his room. She looked down at the apple seeing a small bite already taken from it.
'He must have been hungry.'
She ate the apple as if she hadn't eaten in days. The moment she finished the apple she hid the core while laying back in bed.
I guess sleeping in a little longer wouldn't hurt. After all breakfast is at 8.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Jess woke up to a knock on the door.
"Morning, hope your hungry." The man said while turning on the light.
Jess shielded her eyes as she looked up at the man. She saw him with plate full of food.
"Hope you like meat, we got plenty of it."
The plate was packed with sausage, bacon, ham, and eggs. The food caused her stomach to rumble.
"Come on darling, the table is ready."
Jess didn't hesitate as she got out of bed and put on her shirt. She walked in the other room seeing a trash can. The fact she hid the apple core in her pocket, she wanted to throw it away. When she made her way to the kitchen she threw the core away quickly.
She walked over to the table seeing the man was no where to be found. She sat down as she looked down at the fresh food. She looked around noticing no one else had a plate.
'Come on darling, the table is ready.' "I guess it's okay to eat."
Jess ate surprisingly fast considering she only had two apples in the past 19 hours. The meat was really good and juicy. She loved it. 'It's a shame the boys don't eat around her.' She would offer some. 'Surely they are having some too.' After she finished her plate she looked around noticed no one was around.
'Where is everyone?'
She got up out of her seat while making her way to the kitchen to maybe find the wife. She pushed on the door and peeked inside. She didn't see the wife but she did smell something...odd... kinda like..
'Iron?'
She looked around seeing all sorts of ingredients laying around. Apples, carrots, onions, vegetables, then....
'What's that?'
She saw a strange red object placed on the cutting board. She observed the unknown object as it looked like a....
"Tongue?" She said with a shaky voice.
She looked around for any explanation.
'It has to be from an animal.. There's no other explanation.'
Her whole body jolted as she heard...
"Darling, where are you? Please tell me your not in the kitchen."
Her heart spiked as she quickly hid behind the door. When the door opened she quickly made her way out of the kitchen while quickly running in her room. She flopped on the bed while covering up quickly.
"Darling?" The man hollered outside the door.
"Yes?" She asked in a sleepy voice.
"Your back in bed?"
"I'm sorry, I was so tired."
"Oh it's quite alright. Sleep as much as you need. Please don't go in the kitchen. Me and the boys went hunting late last night and brought home some meat. It's a little messy in there."
"Oh, okay."
"See you in awhile, Paigee."
Jess's eyes shot open as he walked away.
'Paigee? His daughter?'
