Chapter 8

Deborah had been right, she had played with fire and now it was about to burn her. Well, the fire hadn't exactly started burning her but since the day she had visited the hospital she had had no rest. She had been panicking for nothing in particular.

When she had seen Dieko's call she had become troubled, her mind firstly going to the possibility that Dieko had found out she had injured his son. On the phone he had asked nothing of the such, he had only asked about her whereabouts. She had lied when she had told him she was going home. Far from it, she was going to spend the night with James not on business but for pleasure besides she needed his help for a plan B she was working on.

When she had gotten to James' house they had gone straight to business. James was not a man that wasted time on foreplay. When they had both been satisfied he had told her to disappear from Lagos. He had explained to her that Mrs Macualy senior had been making enquiries about her and Mrs Macualy was not a woman one wanted to trifle with. He had said he would help her though, with a sum of ten million on condition that she forfeit the mini flat she had in Thomas estate. The property was clearly worth more than that but in the first place, she had not paid a dime for the place so it didn't matter much. Ten million was enough for her to travel out of the country and start all over in a new place. And again she had just heard the worst from the doctor her situation will only take a miracle for her to ever carry a child, so tying Dieko down with a child was impossible for her.

Dieko had also become distant. She had only seen him once after he had called her at the hospital and when they had met he hadn't attempted to go intimate with her. He had only advised her to get rid of her nails as she was now working with children. He had also asked her if she was alright. To which she had replied yes.

Her real fear though had not been Dieko, it was his mom. His mom was as black as midnight and she was lean and tall. She had an aristocratic air around her which was very intimidating. She had cornered her one day on her way to work and had told her straight to disappear from her sons' life else she would make sure she disappeared. That had been it, not a word more nor less.

...

Dieko did not know when it started happening. Since he had been spending more time at home he had become drawn to his wife. He had even begun looking forward to kissing her every morning. He had told himself he needed a break from Lewa so he could clear his head. He missed Lewa but since she had lied about her whereabouts he had started to have his doubts about her. He had also hired a private investigator to look into her past. He just wanted to make sure and most especially he wanted to prove his mother wrong about Lewa.

There was also the issue of Rotimi who had said that ' aunty big bombom ' had stopped coming to school. Dieko had been careful not to bring her name in the mud because of what happened. He had stayed quiet on the matter so he was puzzled as to why she would quit her job, except she was fired.

Nike had also been giving him concerns, he had noticed that her stomach was getting bloated and she had said she wasn't pregnant. She had also been frequenting the toilet than normal and he had noticed her wince in pain. She had denied being in pain though and had refused to visit the hospital. What was more alarming was that she was so pale and now so thin. It was very glaring that all was not well. He remembered her date with Dr Alimi. He had decided to check up on him to question what he had been doing with his wife the other day.

....

Dieko looked at the result before him. It read:

Paternity test

Positive: 99.9%

Rotimi was truly his own flesh and blood. He left his friends office to go and visit the gynaecologist ward as that was the direction he had seen Lewa coming from the other day.

' Good morning Mr Marcualy. To what do I owe this pleasant visit. 'Dr Richard said greeting him with a slight bow. The last time they had met was when Nike was pregnant.

' I came to find out if she came here ' Dieko asked showing him a picture of Lewa on his phone.

' Sir I .. '

' I understand that you guarantee your patients utmost confidence but this particular person is of great concern to me ' Dieko cut the man off knowing what he was about to say.

After a pause, Dr Richard said, ' she came to know if there was anything that could be done to her situation '

' what do you mean situation? Is she pregnant? ' asked an anxious Dieko.

' not at all. Miss Lewa can never have children '
