As I departed from Woodpine the weather gradually got worse. Soon it had started to rain, and I heard thunder. I started running out of instinct, and soon I got to Pondacre. When i got to the house I knocked on the door and it was opened by.....a girl? Who was this girl? Where was my uncle? I was pretty sure this was the right farm since it was the only farm on this side of the forest. I walked in past the girl and went up to my room on the top floor. I put my stuff down, and took my coat off. I heard the girl call my name, and I went downstairs. She was standing in the living room, looking out the window facing the forest.
I carefully approached her, a million questions racing my mind. After a while of standing beside her in silence, my curiosity got the best of me, and I asked her a simple question.
"Who are you?"
She didn't move. I stared at her for a while, but instead of trying to talk to her anymore, I went upstairs again. I spent a long time laying in bed wondering what happened to my uncle, before coming to the conclusion that he might just be in the safehouse in the forest if he needed to work late, and wouldn't make it home before dark.
After a while, I felt my eyelids becoming heavier, and I fell into a deep sleep.
______________
The morning after, I was awakened by the smell of bagels and pancakes. I stood up, went downstairs and saw the girl there, at the stove, baking pancakes and sugaring them all at once. She gestured me to sit down and eat. Once I did, she handed me a letter labeled with my name. I opened the letter to see, that it was a list of instructions from my uncle. There were things like, 'clean the house' , 'be nice to the housegirl' , 'don't hate on the forest', and there were also a few projects for me to do as well, like cutting the grass, chopping firewood and such. After I read the letter, I put it in my pocket, and looked up. I saw the girl had sat down to eat as well. I tried to ask her again.
"Who are you?"
Again, she didn't reply.
Again, I got a little frustrated by this. I stood up, thanked her for the food, and went outside to the toolshed, only to find that it was locked. I jogged back to the house to get the key. The girl had started washing the windows on the outside. She stopped, walked over to me, handed me the keys, and went back to cleaning the windows.
As I went back to the toolshed, I noticed something on the wall on the inside. It was another letter from uncle, attached to the axe. It said that the trees that need to be taken down were marked with white, and that i didn't have to worry about him.
I went into the forest to look for the trees that i was supposed to cut down. I found one, and I started working on it. As soon as I was halfway through, my head started becoming dizzy. The last thing I saw before passing out, was the clear blue sky above.
__________
When I woke up, the sun had already set, and it was nearing midnight by the look of the moon. I staggered back to the farmhouse, and upstairs to my bedroom. I didn't even make it out of my boots before collapsing on the bed, axe still in my hand.
The morning after, I went downstairs again, ate bread in silence, and went back out to the forest. Before I could leave again, the girl stopped me, and spoke to me. She said,
"Don't go alone again. You'll end up like your uncle. Dead."
"O-okay." I said, shocked to hear my uncle died. "I'm going to ask you again." My eyes filled with tears.
"Who are you? And why are you here?"
"I am the Fairy Queen Lykfilia Chevalier of the Holy Trio, but you can call me Lyka."
