Chapter 21

(Marcus) I grabbed her hand, she has been waiting for me to take it. I followed her to a big light, it was so bright it almost burned my eyes at first, but after I got used to it I could see through it. There was a whole new world, different from the one I came from, why was she taking me there? She stopped right before the light and turned to me, she was so incredibly beautiful, with her long blonde hair curled up falling down her shoulders and her white dress covering her pale body. She was so pale, she looked dead and alive at the same time. She opened her big brown eyes and pierced mine.

-You don't belong here.

She said before pushing me so hard that I fell completely. I could see her image becoming smaller and smaller as the darkness I was falling into covered her completely. I closed my eyes, letting myself sink in whatever was waiting for me down. I felt a hand on my arm and the woman's picture has once again appeared in my mind. Her clear voice was spelling softly my name taking a desperate note. I felt my arm being moved fast and the drop of a tear made me open my eyes. I saw a light like the one from before, only that it hurt my eyes so much seeing it. I turned my head only to see white everywhere until a split of brown appeared...Vivien...

-Marcus? Marcus!

The voice was getting closer, two hands grabbed mine, squishing them hard.

-Nurse! He's awake!

I moved my head from corner to corner, foggy people came running into the room, hurrying towards me. I tried to completely open my eyes to the image of a man looking at me hopeful.

-Can you hear me?

I wanted to answer but I felt like my tongue has been swallowed, I wondered since how long I haven't used it, only moving it seemed impossible. I felt my eyes become heavy again, tempting me to close them again.

-No! Marcus stay with me!

Vivien, her voice made me try to stay awake. I turned to see her, she was being pushed by the nurses. I moved my hand towards her to make them let her go.

-V-v-vi-vi-en...

The man looked back at Vivien.

-Let her come near him.

The nurses let go of Vivien and she came running to me, she grabbed my hand and started crying.

-Bring him some water!

She screamed through tears, not taking for one second her eyes off of me.

-Ok, he is stable, you can leave now. And do what she says, one of you stay here with them.

-Yes doctor.

I looked at the fast-leaving nurses from my room, one of them went to the back of the room and sat down on a chair, watching me closely. I focused back on Vivien who was holding my hand with both of hers.

-I was so worried about you, I thought I lost you.

Tears fell down her cheeks on the tones of her last words, I could see the pain she had been going through the last days.

-H-h-how l-l-long have I...

Just then the nurse came back in with some water. Vivien took the glass and helped me sip from it. She put the glass on the nightstand and pointed the nurse with a cold gaze.

-You can go now.

She nodded and exited the room in an instant. Her eyes followed the nurse until she was completely gone before she moved them back on me, her expression becoming adoring.

-What did you want to ask?

-How long have I been here?

She let her head fall down, taken by surprise. Her expression saddened and she forced a smile trying to hide it.

-Just a few months.

-Months?

-Yes.

-How many?

-Two...

-I have been staying in this bed for two months?!

-Yes, you...you entered a coma, after the accident. We didn't know if you'll ever wake up again.

-What...what happened?

-Matilda drugged you, you lost the control of the car and we crashed. The doctors said that you were in a critical state when they brought you here, you entered the coma immediately after they saved you.

Loads of drops started falling from her pale cheeks, I looked at her and I could see how worn up she have been this whole time, hoping desperately that I will survive. I turned my head to her and held her hand stronger.

-It's okay, I am here now, I will never leave you again.

She leaned to me and kissed me, it was like I have never left, like only yesterday we woke up from having sex in that motel. Who can process that it was two months ago. We parted and I looked at her, putting my hand on her face, gently wiping her remained tears.

-All is going to be okay. Does your father know?

-Yes, he thought it was your fault, wanted to fire you.

I smiled at the thought.

-You got what you wanted.

She looked at me and chuckled when she met my freakish smile.

-I saved your ass, you are welcome.

-Well, me and my ass have to thank you somehow now, right?

-It seems like you do.

She leaned back and once again I met her sweet lips. I put my hand on her face going down slowly the way I knew she liked it but she suddenly moved, backing away.

-Is something wrong?

-What? No, no, it just doesn't seem like you are in perfect shape to...you know...start something.

I smiled, placing my hand on hers.

-We don't have to start anything.

-I think I should go, let you relax.

-I don't want you to go.

-Marcus, you just came out of a coma, you need to rest a little bit.

-Exactly my point, I had two months to relax a bit.

She smiled gathering her things then gave me a quick kiss before walking to the door.

-How have you been doing?

I heard myself yelling behind her and she stopped letting her head fall in front before turning to face me again.

-You haven't told me how your recovery was.

-There is nothing to tell about it.

-Are you hiding something from me?

-What? Of course not.

-Then I would like to know what happened with you in these two months.

-What do you want to hear?

-Everything.

Right in that moment a man walked in, Vivien turned to him. He walked confidently and grabbing her by the waist he kissed her then let go of her, his crystal blue eyes penetrating hers.

-Are you ready to go, darling?

-Yes, just give me a minute.

He took a short glance at me then nodded and left. Vivien turned back at me with a guilty look.

-That was...?

-Oliver.

-Everything.

With a deep breath she placed her hand in front of me, a big diamond ring surrounding her finger.

-I am engaged.

I lowered my eyes, pointing my hands, stressfully playing with the blanket. She came closer to me, trying to make me look at her again.

-I was going to tell you...

She sat beside my bed, placing her hands on mine trying to stop me from moving them.

-Look at me.

She moved one of her hands on my face, softly pushing my face towards her. I grabbed it and took it off my cheek, removing the one still left on my hand as well.

-I think you should go, your fiancé is waiting for you.

-Let's talk about this.

-Vivien, there is nothing to talk about.

-But...

-Please leave.

She got up, grabbing her purse and exited while taking one last look before closing the door again.

I sat back in the bed, placing my head on the pillow and closing my eyes, trying to relax. My head was filled with thoughts of her and that guy, their kiss played all over again in my mind. The course was interrupted by a move coming from my side. I opened my eyes and took a look only to realise that it was the nurse assigned to stay here. The nurse noticed me and smiled, when her gentle expression was met by my rigid face she lowered her head and started murmuring.

-I am sorry if I disturbed you sir.

-Do you know who that guy was?

She raised her head back at me and looked at me confused before realising that I was serious.

-Yes, that was Oliver Franklin.

-How does Miss Collin know him?

-They started dating about a month ago, their dads work together.

-Her dad works with his dad?

-Yes, he was the one who set them up.

-How do you know so much about this?

-I am Vivien's personal nurse.

-Really?

-Yes, I was recommended to you by her. I haven't properly presented myself. My name is Jennifer Olsen.
