"But he that doesn't want to grasp the thorns cannot crave the rose"-unknown
"She doesn't need to know now does she. If she was the one she would have said it. We can't fail again the fall was hard enough the first time."
Waking up from my dream Xena's words echoed in my mind. Flashes of the day of my accident. Anai and Xena were talking about... me probably. Looking over my alarm clock it read 5am. Dorm life was pretty manageable I had managed to catch up with everything. I was still in a bubble, I wanted to see Fairy but I was under constant surveillance.
Since the girls death, Mandy and I think there have been cameras attached everywhere, dorm schedule has been tightened I can't leave this place except on weekends. I'm not their problem on the weekend. Staying up I watched the sun, stretching in the sunlight I washed up and dressed in my dorm wear. Uniforms were strict but they were manageable.
It consisted of long track bottoms black and a light blue polo shirt with the Arindale logo on it. It was plain but plain is good. Braiding my hair back I secured it with bobby pins making a French braid. My room wasn't really mine, I spent most of the time in the hospital anyway. Memories of the hospital flooded my mind, those red eyes haunted me.
Sitting on the desk, I brought out my book, my observation book. I needed to map what I know and what I don't.
Okay what I know :
1. My 'friends' aren't human
2. They may be supernatural beings
3. There's a dead body and most likely to be
4. Anai and Xena are hiding something from me
What I don't know:
1. What are they (bearers of light, mismatch and halflings)
2. Why are they here
3. Why are there bodies
4.The demon what's his deal
5. Why are there shadows following me
6. What Anai and Xena were talking about.
7. Why am I involved with this.
I wrote breaking my lead at the tip. My eyes found the steel bars on the windows. They reminded me of prison cells, it was uncomfortable. All these questions flood my mind nothing's clear everything is a haze, I don't understand and no one want to give me answers.
Getting up I checked the time it was 8am time for breakfast, dragging my feet I left my room; navigating the way to the dinning room.
The dinning room was large it accommodated both genders, it was like the lunchroom in the school but more spacey. Instead of individual tables there were long tables that went for rows around the room. Like the kind of tables you see at hogwarts, except I didn't have a house to sit with. I was still the new girl.
Getting my food I sat on a table at the edge close to exit doors towards the garden and watched people as I ate my breakfast. The hall monitors sat on a high table close to the Center, mistresses and misters of the dorms sat my the corners quietly observing some interacting most staying by themselves, blending into the shadows a little to well. I got shivers.
My eyes scanned the large room as sunlight filtered into the room giving the room a more homey feel the cool ac blasted, ventilating the room perfectly not a drop of sweat on anyone's head. I couldn't find anyone, not even Valerie. Then I noticed it a boy, small from the distance was sweating profusely by himself he was hidden from the eye of the crowd he has freckles over his face that dusted his tanned skin. There was something familiar about him.
Sucking a breath in I realised he had a streak of purple in his copper hair, he must be Fairy's. brother. It was odd he looked like, he should be in a hospital instead of Fairy. I stood up, and walked over he was so far away, he flinched when I placed my tray down on the table and sat in front of him. No other student was coming to the table . He was wearing the same thing as me except his shirt was darker.
His eyes flicked up to meet mine, then I noticed the fire in them. He was an odd sort he radiated leave me alone vibes loner but his eyes said something different. He didn't say anything but I watched him, studying his mannerisms. I spent most of my time studying him, he didn't say anything. Breakfast was almost over and I spent most of watching him, while he ate his food.
This is an announcement for the student, today's activity will involve partners. The person in front of you is your partner if you don't have a partner walk up to the podium after breakfast. Your activities will be assigned later on.
The speakers voice resounded through the hall. The guy flinched visibly at the announcement but didn't say anything. His eyes raised to meet mine. It was a stare down, was he trying to intimidate me, I wasn't backing down and a smug look filled his face.
"You can call me Andrew.", he said after a while his voice was slightly raspy but calming. "Don't worry I know who you are, Fairy told me all about you."
"Why haven't I seen you anywhere?", I asked his eyebrows raised and motioned around him, the people who were seemly close to him were a set above me. Hmm that's why.
Breakfast was soon over and we were expected to go to our rooms, but I wanted to go to the library. Andrew offered to escort me and I agreed. Andrew and I walked away together, the buzz of people surrounded us but we didn't say anything just an awkward silence filled in. I wanted to ask if Fairy had told him anything else, but I held my tongue.
We were at the library door, there weren't many people here so I could read properly. Turning away from the door I flashed him a shy smile and waving him away. He took a step closer and bent down to meet me eye to eye.
"You know the monsters in fairytales, I'm the knight who promised the good witch to guard the castle. See you later Quinn, I'm looking forward to the activity we have planned together." He whispered putting his hands in his pockets he turned back and walked away.
"But are you the dark night or the white one?", I called after him. He looked back and smirked, his copper hair shining under the fluorescent lights.
"You'll have to tell me when you figure it out.", he called after me and walked away, chuckling to himself.
