Martha's POV
"Hey Yvie" I said when I saw Yvonne standing by her locker. "You're late…again" she said as she followed me to my locker, "Yeah, sorry, I had to run a few errands for my mom" I say smiling at her once we reach my locker. "Where's Maoris?" she asks looking around. "She's already gone to class" I reply after getting my essentials for math class. "Are you done?" Yvonne asked. "Yeah, sure"
At lunch
I walk through the cafeteria and sight Yvonne and Maoris already talking at our usual table. I set down my tray and sit. "So what are we laughing about?" I ask entering into the conversation. "You watch science of stupid right?" Yvonne asks in-between laughs. "Of course I do" I say remembering the episode about water accidents. We continue talking and then I see Maoris eyes grow bigger in disgust…is there something on my head? I ask myself…nope that's it. "What?" I ask her, getting uncomfortable. "Hello Martha" someone says from behind me. "Oh, hi Soph how are you doing?" I ask sarcastically.
Sophie is Carly's younger sister; she's the annoying kind that goes about dressing in short skirts to impress boys. She actually doesn't like me because I'm close to Gill….well I don't care.
"So let me get straight to the point, yes?" she said narrowing her eyes. "So do you want to talk or not?" I say pushing a stray strand of hair away from my face. "Stay away from Gill" she said pointing at me. "I see you making moves at him, but let me tell you this, Gill is mine and mine alone. Besides you're too filthy looking" she continued sipping her coke. "And who says I'm filthy looking?" I ask calmly trying to avoid the worst case scenario. "Me" she replied, at that I felt a cold liquid running down my hair and into my clothes. "What is wrong with you?" a once quiet Yvonne speaks up. "Oopsies, my hand must've slipped" she giggles before downing the remaining content of the bottle on my head and walking away.
Once I'm done cleaning up, I head back to class, and for the rest of the day, I couldn't stop thinking about what she said "stay away from Gill" those words kept ringing in my head.
At the party
I'm sitting down at the patio of Kyle's house, music is blaring loudly from inside the house. What can I say, the party is actually nice. "Hey cupcake", "Hey" I reply and then he sits beside me. "I heard what happened" he says, I look forward not making eye contact but I can feel his gaze. "What happened?", I asked, I had been trying to clear my head from what happened earlier and I successfully did it. "What Sophie did" he says and I look at him. "Oh yeah" I say looking back at my hands. "I'm sorry" he apologized, guilt written all over his face. "Gill, you don't have to be" I say looking at him once again and smiling. "No, I do, because it was my fault" he replies and I can feel tears burning at the back of my eyes, but I hold them back because I don't want to make him feel bad. "Don't say that Gill" I tell him, pulling him into a hug and holding unto him tightly. "Ahem" someone coughs and we pull apart. It's Yvonne. "Oh-um, Yvie, hi" Gill stammered. "Nothing happened" I say raising my hands in the air. "I didn't ask if anything happened" she laughs. "I just wanted to call you in and tell you that Maoris was looking for you" she continues. "Oh, yeah" I say standing up and dusting my jeans. We get inside to meet an angry Sophie with her friends. "Hey Soph" I greet wanting to ease the tension between us once and for all. "You! I told you to stay away from him" she said walking up to me and poking me in the chest. "Leave her alone" Yvonne says and she earns herself a tough slap from Sophie, her friends had already dispersed by now and we had attracted a crowd. "How dare you hit her?" I asked fuming. "Why can't you just leave him alone?" she asked, ignoring my question. "Gull doesn't deserve you" "he deserves better, he deserves me" she adds pushing me back
Yvonne's POV
"Leave her alone" I said trying to speak up for Martha. She slapped me, she just slapped me, who does she think she is?. I wanted to make a move but then Martha stands in front of me in defense. "How dare you slap her?" Martha speaks walking slowly toward Sophie, I could tell that she was really angry. "Why can't you just leave him alone?" she ignored Martha's question. "Gill doesn't deserve you, he deserves better…." She paused and looks at Martha "he deserves me" she finishes, the crowd had greatly increased by now. She pushes Martha, I try to come in but Martha tells me to step aside. Within the twinkling if a eye, Martha shoved Sophie and Sophie clutched her stomach and coughed. "Martha, what are you doing?" Gill asked as he pushed through the crowd. "Shut up Gill" Martha replied with an enraged look on her face. She throws Sophie on the floor and starts landing her punches on her. Sophie pushes Martha off but she recovers quickly although that didn't stop Sophie's punch from connecting with her face, Sophie's already bleeding from her nose and lip then Martha throws one last punch which makes Sophie to pass out and people start cheering.
Gill just stares in disgust? Anger? Sadness? Disbelief? I can't tell. I get an ice pack from the freezer and hand it over to Martha because of her swollen mouth, from the punch that Sophie gave her. I've never seen her this angry since 5th grade. "That was badass girl, thanks for standing up for me" I tell her, giving her a side hug, just then, Maoris comes and squishes her into a hug. "The sod deserved it" she said before pulling away.
