Chapter 12

Martha's POV

I was woken up from sleep by the sun rays that peeked into my room from my slightly opened curtain. I groaned and stood up from my bed, taking a quick glance at the small clock that was perched up on my nightstand, 6:55am, I quickly did my morning routine and headed downstairs, the familiar smell of scrambled eggs and toast greeted me.

"Good morning mom" I said with a blank expression while she sat there drinking coffee. I'm sure that from the look on her face, she could tell that I wasn't happy. She just gave me a small smile.

Just as I was about to say something, it was like Maoris noticed the heavy tension and quickly spoke up.

"We should get going" and with that she dragged me out if the house and we started our walk to school. Well I never really mentioned it that we weren't rich at all. She hasn't been the elaborate one though but Maoris, ha, she's one out of the ordinary.

Maoris POV

When I got downstairs, I could feel the tension in the air. I didn't want to settle the product of the argument so I quickly dragged Martha out of the house.

"We should be on our way " I said and pulled her by the hand out of the house and we started walking.

"Ahem" I cleared my throat to get her attention, "you okay?" I asked, looking into her eyes.

"Yeah, it's just that…" she trailed off looking ahead and fiddling with the strap of her bag.

"Mhmm" I hummed, urging her to continue.

This doesn't make any sense at all, if Gill is angry, then he doesn't deserve my sister. She literally fought for their friendship. Well Gill and I aren't that close as he and Martha are and I actually like it that way, sort of.

As I was saying, if he tells Martha that what she did was wrong, then he-

"He'll never want to talk to me again" Martha said, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"If he doesn't talk to you then he does know what friendship is" I tell her.

"You don't get it" she muttered and walked ahead of me. What's going on with her, why can't she just open up for once? I mean, I tell her everything, we're sisters, twins for that matter. Ughhhh, she's just so secretive.

I ended my thoughts with that and tried to catch up with her. Classes passed quickly and in no time my mom and Martha were in their way to the counselor with me at home.

Martha's POV

She just doesn't get it, nobody does. They never understand me. If he finds out, he would never ever talk to me, I won't have a best friend to hang out with anymore. You might be thinking, you still have Yvonne and Maoris, but they won't understand, not even my mom will, but Gill, he doesn't judge me, because he understands me. If he ends our friendship because of this....or rather the promise that I broke, I'm such an idiot...oh God, what have I done. When we got to school, or rather when I got to school, because I left Maoris behind, I stayed on my own throughout until it was time for my mom to take me to the counselor.

"Marty" Maoris called from behind me, "yes" I answered not looking back. I was going to my locker.

"Mom says she'll be hear in ten minutes and that you should switch on your phone so she can reach you" she told me, pretty much out of breath from running to catch up with me.

"Ok" I replied and continued walking.

"Honk honk" the sound from my mom's car blared. Maoris had already gone home, saying that she couldn't wait.

We walked down the hall way and saw the receptionist behind the desk. The place hadn't changed one bit, from the cream colored walls to the beige doors and beautiful white lights, I still don't feel comfortable here.

"Do you have an appointment?" the pretty redhead receptionist asked with a polite smile.

"Yes, we're here to see Doctor Susanne" my mom told her and then typed something on her laptop before directing us to the same room.

"Susanne" my mom called out and gave her a hug. "How have you been?" she asked my mom and talked for sometime, forgetting that I was in the room.

"Oh and this missy over here got into another fight" my mom said turning to face me.

"Oh my" Susy said and chuckled .

"So I'm going to leave you two to do today's session, I'll be back in one hour" my mom said and hugged Susy one more time and patted my cheek.

"So, Marty, tell me, what happened this time" Susy asked while gesturing for me to sit down.

Susanne is British and she should be around 51 years old currently, calculating from when last I was here. To make me comfortable, she said I could call her Susy or Anne for short, that was when I came here in 5th grade.

She's a brunette and her freckles spread around the bridge of her nose to her cheeks, giving her a very cute look. She still had her accent even though she's been in the country for a long time.

"It was this girl" I started "she just annoyed me so much, and I…" I said remembering the day I made the promise to Gill. I felt so sad all of a sudden. "And I might lose him just because of my rash decision" and with that I started crying, I held it in for these three days, I poured it all out.

"Well, clearly you don't need counselling, because you are already remorseful for what you did and you didn't snap at her at the first instant which means there been any improvement since the last time" she said after I told her all that happened and had finished crying my heart out.
