Chapter 5

He hits the grass, the clean cold air blows against his skin. "A-Adam?"

He pushes himself up onto his knees painfully and looks around till he finds her. She smiles and walks over and falls beside him.

"We did it.....we're out."

"I can't believe it was so easy."

"They tried to erase my memory but I didn't know why, now obviously, because I heard a servant mention the correlation. Still, I can't believe how empty it was."

"No one can track us right?" he asks,

She smiles and shakes her head, "Even if someone saw if leave, we are far, far away, no one appeared with us. They can't tell where we landed."

Adam closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. "Why here?"

"It was the first place I thought of, no one for miles, I grew up here."

She Crawls over to a hot spring and closes her eyes, the water glows a bright blue and quickly turns dark again.

"What was that?"

"Neither of us are strong enough to heal one another, or even ourselves completely, so I temporarily....enchanted if you, will the water. It'll slowly heal us and replenish our white plasma count."

He smirks at the ground, "K fine, half of it is because I owe you okay?"

"Violet, that wasn't just me that got us out."

"I don't mean that, I gave in, I lost hope that I'd ever be free again. I would have killed myself a long time ago if I could have. But you and I got along and you gave me hope again. Ugh Gah! I sound like a cheesy fairy tale! Don't ever tell anyone I said that. Any of it."

He chuckles and agrees, with a painful looking twist of her upper half she takes off her red shirt revealing her underclothes. Adam feels the heat rush to his face and immediately he turns around stammering out an apology.

"Geez you are so innocent."

"Unlike some guys I actually respect women."

"I could've guessed that, you're way different from other guys. People can look all they want, but I don't let anyone touch my body."

She pulls gently on his shoulders and turns him around, it's hard not to stare at her black under garments, it makes her skin look like Snow White's.

" We aren't gonna do anything. I'm not sure when I'd trust enough for that again. But, I, if you want to-uh, me, tonight-Respectfully. I don't know how you feel about me but, I just wanted to be clear."

Adam takes a breath, slowly leans in and presss his lips against hers. He puts his hand on her waist and feels her body stiffen.

She tugs lightly on his shirt and holds the kiss for several seconds before pulling away. Adam opens his eyes as she looks at the ground, her face has turned dark red.

She shifts her eyes to look up at him and smiles as she squeezes her hand.

"Well I-I think I'm getting in." she mumbles,

She backs up, turns and carefully limbs into the hot spring. He takes off his outer garments and climbs in, he's surprised how, hot it is. Sitting down the water rises to his shoulders, he can feel the tenderness, the pain, everything ever so slowly drift away.

She comes over and sits beside him. "You're a pretty good kisser." she says,

He looks at her curling lips, "Where's that confidence coming from?" he teases,

Whatever amount of red left her face has now returned. She gives him a light push, "Shut up. I have more guts than you. I actually laid the boundaries and said what I felt. Not many girls have the guts to say what they feel."

"None ever do, so, why you?"

She studies his eyes, as if searching for the answer. "Ask me again in three days....I just got trust issues."

"Something else we have in common."

"Alright....three days, I'll tell you if you tell me."

"Deal."

She smiles and presses her lips against Adam's again. He brushes his fingers on her neck softly and gently pulls, deepening the kiss.

She pulls back slightly and kisses again, and again. She straddles him, her grip on his shoulders tighten.

Finally he pulls away and she whines, breathing heavily. "Maybe we should stop?"

With her eyes still closed she nods. "I was starting to want more." she scoffs and shakes her head,

He starts to help her off, she whines softly and squeezes my shoulders tighter. "Violet, I want to do right, by you and me.....maybe we should get some sleep."

She sighs and nods, ".....Thank you Adam. I'm sorry."

She gets to her feet and quickly climbs out. He climbs out after her and grabs her hand.

"Violet it's not that I don't want to be with you, but you said it's not happening. Even if you changed your mind, I want to respect you."

She turns and smiles, "I know, I'm disappointed in myself, not in you. Let me gather myself tonight, okay?"

"I'll see you in the morning, right?"

She squeezes my hand. "Definitely."

She pulls away and grabs her clothes.

"Yeah, I'll look away."

"Thanks."

"Okay, you can get dressed if you want."

Adam finds his own spot diagonal of her where she will still be able to see him through the tall grass. He lies down and looks at her, watching as she stares at the stars.

The sun's continuous heat is what wakes him. He rubs his eyes and sits up, wow, Adam feels so much better. His pain has disappeared and his energy is restored.

He looks over at Violet through the grass, she's still in a deep sleep.

"Dont turn around okay? I'm going to change." she says,

"Okay....how did you sleep?"

She snorts, "Let's not make this awkward, please? I slept pretty well, the water really did the trick last night."

"Yeah, same, I feel great. I'm not making this awkward but last ni-"

"Thank you for last night. That was the first time I've ever WANTED to physically show affection to someone, I lost control. I'm sorry, thanks for stopping me."

"Youre welcome. So we're okay?"

She kisses his cheek, he looks over at her bright smile. "I certainly hope so. Now come with me, I got a cabin over the hill."

"What's there?"

"Swords, bows, non torn clothes. I'm hungry so I'm hunting."

"Sweet, you can teach me how to shoot a bow."

"If you tell me how you unlocked your magic."

"O-oh yeah I forgot. I knew there were tricks with magic, from what I've heard I knew that by touching someone I could activate it, kind of like how Eclipse users can corrupt people, but different."

She frowns, "Don't associate yourself with them it makes me uneasy. How did you know that would work?"

"I didn't. I hoped it would."

"And they didn't realize it? Who was it?"

"No, it was....um....s-someone, why am I drawing a blank? Who was it?"

"You can't remember anything about them?"

He shakes my head, "I can't even tell you whether it was a male or female. What the heck?"

"Don't stress, minds are weird, it'll come back. But I've never heard of someone activating their magic like that."

"Really?"

"Yeah, it's weird, but I don't think anyone's tried it that way either so....youre just weird."

"You're boring if you aren't a little weird."

She rolls her eyes and starts over the hill, Adam follows her to the small cabin. They walk in, grab two bows and knives and walk out back where two hay targets are set up.

"Alright, aim and release."

He does as asked, "Take a steadying breath and let it slip out of my fingers."

Thunk.

She looks back and forth wide eyed, "I thought you said you've never shot a bow before?"

"I haven't." he says feeling the heat rush to his face,

"Bull, I don't know if you noticed but that's called a bullseye." she says sarcastically,

Adam shrugs.

"Do it again."

He aims, right before Adam releases, she claps her hands near his ears. But it still lands in the red of the round target.

"Dang man. You're a better shot than me."

"Well if it's any comfort I bet I'd lose in swordplay."

"Okay...let's go hunt, we'll come back, eat and we can see who's better with a sword."

They wander into a nearby grove of trees and set traps. She covers her hair with dirt and mud to hide the orange color. After they set five, the two find a spot and wait, and wait, hours pass.

"Alright, let's look at the traps." she finally says,

Adam looks back at the sun, it's fading light barely peaks through the trees. He shoulders the bow and follows her to each of traps.

They take the two rabbits and head back. Before they cook them, she washes her hair and she throws him wooden sword.

"Practice much?"

"My dad carved them. He at least gave me a chance to win before he beat me."

"He beat you?"

She bounces the tip of the sword telling me to get ready. He tries to push the memories of her screaming out of his head. Adam raises his sword, she jumps forward and swings down.

He jumps to the side, swing his own sword down on hers and spins swinging his sword just before her neck. But she's already ducked and slammed into Adam, Adam hits the ground, she rolls off to her feet and swings down.

He rolls out of the way, she swings down again, Adam rolls back and in the same motion up to his feet. She swings at his throat, he leans back and throws his sword forward. She jumps back.

"Easy tiger!" he shouts,

She smiles and hits his sword away and swings diagonally, he spins as Adam leans back, he kicks the back of her knee and swings his sword.

She ducks, turns and knees him softly, comparatively, in the stomach and throws him to the ground. He swings his sword up while catching his breath as her sword meets Adam's.

"Nice reflexes." she says breathlessly,

He pushes hard against her wooden sword, she pushes back harder, like he wants it. Adam tilts the blade hard and hers slides off.

He swings his up and hits her hand, she yells out and drops the sword, he swings down touching it against her leg.

"Dang it! How the heck are you so good at all of this?!"

He opens his mouth but decides he doesn't have enough air and shrugs. She falls back to her butt and sighs.

"You went, pretty hard." she says,

"Yeah what the, heck was that?!" I laugh,

She laughs, "I wanted a challenge."

"A near death experience, is more like it."

She giggles and taps hisbshoulder with her shoe. "Again."

They spar and train for another hour and a half, it quickly becomes a competition. She beats him five to three.

They wash up, grab new clothes, she let's him take her brother's old clothes which fit almost too well.

They cook the rabbits on two spits and talk around the fire until they nod off.

The next day the two train longer with bows and swords and even magic. She teaches Adam several different styles and how he can combine them to make them even more powerful.

They spend the last half of the day laying around the house, sleeping. They finally get up, decide to search the traps, they split off but not before she kisses him.

That one seemed different though, she seemed a little off, but it was still the best one yet.

Adam walks into the western area and finds nothing. So he finds his way out and stares up at the stars as he waits for Violet.

"I love searching for the gas and dust in the night sky."

The foreign voice catches him off guard, he turns and stares in shock.

"L-Lydia?"
