This place is not that bad. Other than the monsters, there are not many problems. The air is pure, water is clean, and the people are welcoming.
The strange substance that I felt turned out to be 'Ethernano' which is essentially the mana of this world. In this world, if you want to use magic, you have to make use of the ethernano.
While on Earth, you can use magic even without the use of mana. There are various ways to use magic on earth, while here... there is only one.
The ethernano works as the base for all magic. Adding different elements over it allows the formation of various types of magic.
But even in this world, not everyone can use magic. Most of the humans live a normal life, even some of the ones who can use magic, prefer to live like normal humans.
But those who want to use their magic to gain money, join the 'Wizard Guilds'. 'Wizard Guilds' are associations formed by people who can use magic. Unless a guild gets the license from the 'Wizard Council' they cannot work legally. The guilds that are licensed by the council are called "Light Guilds" or "Legal Guilds" while the ones without a license are called "Dark Guild" or "Illegal Guilds" and they are considered to be criminal organizations.
I do not have any money with me to start a business, neither do I have any legal documentation to get a stable job. So my safest bet is to join a wizard guild. And this 'Fairy Tail' guild seems to be the most popular one within this country.
Or that's what I read in the newspaper and the magazine given by the man.
He left me on my own after bringing me to Magnolia and giving me the directions to the guild as he had some urgent business to attend. A good person I would say, to help someone even though he had urgent business.
"Now, if what he said was correct, I should reach the guild after a ten-minute walk." I can use my super speed but I don't want to cause any commotion.
I need to find something to eat after I reach the guild… but most importantly, I need clothes. Because these robes suck!
There are some really good clothing stores here. But alas, I have no money.
I need to find a job.
…
…
It took a little over ten minutes because of me being distracted by the stores, but I was finally in front of the Fairy Tail guild. It was not what I expected. I… kind of expected it to be bigger. But that doesn't mean the guild is small, instead, it is massive. But I found it a little lackluster.
That doesn't matter though.
Well, I should go inside…

I instantly regret going inside.
The moment I walked inside, a mug crashed into my face. It didn't hurt because my body is extremely tough. If not for the fact that I am not accustomed to this body, I would have easily dodged that. I need a little bit of time to get used to this younger body.
The wizards were a rowdy bunch, screaming at the top of their lungs. But the moment the mug hit my face, everyone went silent. There was pin-drop silence before a blue-haired man came towards me.
"Are you alright, buddy?" The onyx-eyed man asked.
"Ah, yes I am. It didn't hurt." I said rubbing the beer off my face.
"You must have some really tough skin. Being hit by a wooden mug without getting even a scratch. By the way, I am Macao. Macao Conbolt." He said, extending his hand towards me.
"Jebediah of Canaan." I said shaking his hand.
"Jebediah? You are not from Fiore, now are you?" My name is ancient, so his question does make sense.
"Indeed. I am from a small country in the far north-west called 'Canaan'." Canaan is not a northern country, but according to the magazine, the north side of the world hasn't been properly explored yet.
"Damn man! We rarely meet people from the north. But if you don't mind me asking. What are you doing in Magnolia?"
"I was supposed to go to another town but someone stole my belongings including money and clothes while I was on the train. After that, I got attacked by some magical beasts which ended up destroying my clothes. So, I have nothing more than these robes with me."
This made him look at me from head to toe. Previously, he was occupied with checking my condition after being hit by the mug. But now after looking at my clothes, his eyes widened.
"I am sorry buddy, but you have got some sh*tty luck." This made me let out a laugh. I am not sure if my luck was good or bad. I was trapped within the void which should count as bad luck but I found an exit… which should be considered as good luck.
"Maybe you are right." I said with a smile.
"So what are your plans? Since you do not have your belongings."
"I heard that the Fairy Tail guild provides shelter to those who need it for some time. I was hoping that I could stay here for two nights." I said, a bit hopeful that they would accept.
"I see no problem with that, but you should still ask the master. He is discussing something with our S-Class wizard at the moment but it shouldn't take very long." He said with visible pride in his eyes.
If I remember correctly wizards are ranked according to their strength and abilities. They are 5 ranks D, C, B, A, and S. D being the lowest and S being the highest.
There is a rank S+ that is given to only one member of the guild, but it is given by the council and not the guild master. The S+ wizards are considered to be on par with the wizard saints, if not stronger.
So, him being proud of having an S ranked member is justifiable. It is very difficult to obtain the S-rank, as it takes inhuman levels of strength and abilities.
"I see."
"Why don't you join me and my friends for a drink?"
When was the last time I had any alcohol in my system?
"I don't see a problem with that, so why not?" I said as I went towards the table where his friends were sitting.
One was a guy with a brown pompadour and the other was an extremely thin man with blonde hair.
Walking towards them, I see the brown-haired man's eye double in size. "I am really sorry dude, it was my fault that you got hit by the mug." He said with a slight bow.
So he was the one that threw the mug. "It's alright, it was an accident." This made him let out of a sigh of relief.
"Well, Jebediah these are my friends, Wakaba Mine and Claudio Waylon. And guys this is Jebediah of Canaan, he is from the north." This surprised both of them a little.
"Nice to meet you pal." He shook my head while the other gave a simple nod.
"What's with your clothing?" Claudio asked.
"Someone stole his belongings on the train." This caused Wakaba to sigh and Claudio to raise an eyebrow.
I told them my story which made both of them look towards me with pity.
"Don't worry pal, our master is a kind fella. He will let you stay here till you find a job."
Claudio nodded at Wakaba's statement.
After that, I decided to take a drink with them and it didn't take long for the master of the guild to make his appearance.
"And here comes our master." He said pointing towards a short-statured old man.
He was a short man with a nearly bald head. The wrinkles and white hair made him look like a person in his mid to late seventies.
Besides him was a good-looking man with neatly combed brown hair with a stubble. He appeared to be around three to four years younger than me.
For some reason, the master had a massive grin plastered on his face while the man looked simply bored.
"Master!" Wakaba called him, making the master look towards us with a smile.
"Ah, Wakaba I have good news. This time, Gildarts will be staying with us for an entire year."
The brown-haired man is Gildarts, I believe? As he scratched his cheek with an embarrassed look when the master said that.
"I want to relax for a while before I take another quest." That confirms it. This man is Gildarts… who I believe is the S-ranked wizard.
"That's awesome!" Wakaba shouted.
"*Ahem* Master, if you are free, Jebediah would like to discuss something with you." Macao said, drawing his attention towards me.
"Jebediah?" He raised an eyebrow.
"That is my name." I said walking in front of him.
"Jebediah of Canaan," I said. "It's an honor to meet the guild master of the strongest guild within Fiore." This made him burst out laughing.
"It is all thanks to my children." He said. "And you have an interesting name, young man."
"Understandable. I am from the north, so my name is unlike yours."
"North? It is rare to meet people from the north." He looked at me and raised an eyebrow. "So, what brings you here, young man?"
"Well, I…
…
…
"That is a pity. I will inform the authorities to look into this case." He sighed. "So what are your plans from now on?"
"Well… I was hoping if you could provide me with shelter until I get a job." I said in a hopeful tone.
"Of course, I can. Shelter is not a problem but what kind of job are you going to look for?"
There it is!
"I don't know. I can use magic, but I don't have any other qualifications. So, I might have to look for a guild." Now… It's all up to them.
The moment I said that I can use magic, the guild master's eyes shone like stars.
"What… kind of magic can you use?" He asked.
"I can use quite a few types, but my strongest element is lightning. And I can use a little bit of telekinesis and telepathy as well."
.
.
.
.
.
.
"WHAT!!!" All of them shouted at the same time.
"Using multiple elements is not unheard of, but using telekinesis and telepathy on top of elemental magic… I have never seen anyone capable of that." Gildarts said, clearly impressed at my admittance.
"Young man… If you want to join a guild, you can always join us." There it is!
"Are you sure? I lost all my belongings, including my legal documentation."
"No need to worry about that. You don't need any legal documents to join. Besides as long as you could use magic, we would have accepted you with open arms." Wait…
So you are telling me that, I didn't have to plan so much or even reveal my abilities? If I just said that I can use lightning, they would have accepted me?
Aren't they supposed to be the strongest guild? It is common knowledge that the top associations only accept the best members. But these guys accept anyone as long as they can use magic?
.
.
.
.
I don't know if I should be laughing or crying.
*Sigh* Whatever.
"I would love to join your guild." I said putting on a smile.
"Your clothes… if you want you can take a loan from our guild to buy some clothes and basic necessities. You can back us back after you take some quests."
Loan huh? A loan is never a good thing, but I need some clothes.
"I will gladly accept it." I said with a bow.
"Very well then. Claudio, please register a loan of 1,50,000 jewels on his name." He said and Claudio nodded. (A/N: 100 jewels = 1USD)
"Very well then, wait for me here." Claudio said before walking towards the guild counter.
"I have to buy a few socks as well, so if you don't mind I can take you with me. I know all the best stores in Magnolia. So you can save quite a bit of money if you come with me." I don't see any problem with that.
"Sure. And thank you." He smiled and nodded.
…
…
It doesn't take long for Claudio to come back with a pouch full of golden coins.
"There you go." He said handing me the pouch as I thanked him.
"I have a council meeting to attend, I will see you guys later. And Jebediah, after you return you should ask one of the members here to give you the guild stamp. Now, I need to go." He said as he walked out of the guild.
"We should be going as well." said Gildarts, whom I agreed with.
I need new clothes… Right now!
