THE WRONG DECISION

We got in the car and started driving. Albus had taken the driver's seat while Carly and I sorted the edibles we had grabbed, they were barely enough to fill just one of the three bags we had bought, we had wanted to fill up the car full of goods but unfortunately it seems as though fate had other ideas for us.

It really didn't feel enough to last even a single day for the camp. I closed my eyes and laid back against the window. Life was already difficult without a new breed of zombies especially one that was much stronger. Till now we had just seen them alone, I wondered what would happen if we were to be surrounded, with that thought I felt that we at least need some more food to not let this trip go completely to waste.

"How far would you say is the next grocery store?" I asked to no one in particular.

"About an hour out of our way. Why?" asked Albus answering my question.

"Let's plunder it." I said simply.

The environment inside the car completely changed. Both of them looked at me now, they could figure that I was not joking now.

"We barely have enough sunlight left to reach the base in time, not to mention an hour worth of journey would take a considerable amount of fuel out of our tank." Albus said checking the gas we have.

"But at least we will have something to show for it, and if we keep driving in the night without stopping, I really think we will be okay." I said making my point clear. They both looked at each other and after Albus let a sigh out he said, "It really would be nice not letting this supply run failing."

Carly considered the situation for a moment before speaking, "And on the plus if we do successfully loot the grocery store and report the news of the different type of zombies, it really could repair my reputation among the soldiers. But, remember, any sign of trouble and we are leaving."

I was happy enough with that and relaxed once again but I woke up with a glint of silver in my eyes. I opened my eyes and looked at the sword for a while. It seemed so regular, nothing out of the ordinary but even though it certainly had a sort of a cool factor to it. I picked it up and looked at it more closely. It still had that dangerous sweeping edge with that subtle curve that could cut the bone straight through. The edge of the sword was still perfect without any signs of chipping on it, it was definitely not new but still in a perfect condition, it was after a second, I remembered its sheath back in the store. I noticed that Carly kept glancing towards the sword, "Do you know anything about swords?" raising the sword, balancing its edge on my fingertip.

She pursed her lips in disapproval before wielding the sword, "First of all it is not a sword it is a katana, it is a Japanese, well sword, but it is supposed to be very strong and it takes a lot of skill and speed to use it to its limit." She said while admiring the sword in its entirety.

"I had enough skill and speed to kill those wallcrawlers I can definitely handle the katana." I said snatching the katana to inspect it further, much to Carly's displeasure.

"Whoa, I wonder if I'm going to have to keep cleaning this." The katana in my hands just felt right, I had seen and held many swords till date but I have never had one sit so perfectly in my hand that I consider using it daily.

"Guys we should be arriving in a couple of minutes." Albus said from the driver's seat.

We pulled up in an alley that was next to a small store that as still locked from the outside despite missing a few obvious windows. The windows must have been broken from the inside since all that glass was on the footpath. We went inside the store through the broken window, the three of us had our weapons out, Carly her knife, Albus with a handgun was covering us from the back end and I, with my katana was leading us into the store. All of the doors back here were closed, there were signs of hurry in the place but aside from that nothing else, Albus stayed by the door to give us a warning if a few stragglers walk by. Carly and I look around for anything useful in the small store. It was a really small store, not much bigger than the average bedroom, we scoured the shelves for something useful. I found some kitchen knives that I tossed in the bag, some herbs and the prized possession, salt. Since the apocalypse usable salt had become very rare, most of the bags were torn, spilt on the floor or just happened to turn into a different, unappetising colour.

Carly let out a whoop since she had found some good cans on the other side of the store, there were shelves full of cans here, "I wonder why they did not think of checking this place out, it's got real good stuff inside of it." I wondered out loud.

"Who cares right now? Let's just get the stuff and leave." Carly replied in an excited state.

I was getting anxious being in that store for some reason though, I felt like someone was watching us, but Albus did not say anything so I passed that feeling, not thinking anything of it.

"Get down guys! Don't move take cover!" Albus suddenly warned us, diving behind some racks himself. Carly and I hid behind the boxes and stared through the opening, there was a big armoured vehicle which was packed with armed people going through the empty street looking around Carly let a gasp out and said in the smallest voice, "Pirates!" as they parked their car over by the next street.

I swallowed hard thinking that we definitely made the wrong decision coming for this store.
