In which Evelyn forgets

I was drifting, sometimes I'd hear something, a sound. But as I turned to hear it better it disappeared. Everything was muted, there was no land or sky, just empty space. I was laying on my back I supposed, if there was a ground. There was no feeling really, and I didn't feel sad or happy. Really it was peaceful. Then I saw a flare of colour, I lazily drifted to it, and to my surprise it was a picture. My mother stared up at me, she was younger and somewhat happier. But as I got close enough to touch it, it dissolved. Soon there were a flurry of pictures, Mina, my father, even school. A friend from second grade drifted by. A wintery family Christmas, a school concert. My best friend who now hated me stared up at me with innocent eyes. Each time one dissolved I felt freer, and emptier. The very last of the pictures vanished, and that was when I became aware of a second presence.

He wanted to bring me somewhere now. It was time to go.

I gasped as a surfaced. I was lying in a bed staring at a tall ceiling.

"Evelyn!" I turned my head and saw a woman, I knew her. But a lot of things weren't making sense.

She stopped, "Evelyn? It's me Hera."

Hera... Hera, yes I remembered a Hera. She was my...

I blinked.

"Evelyn?" She sounded hurt now.

"She's dazed," another voice said, I turned to the otherwise and saw a man with glowing eyes. I also knew who he was. Something about salt, and adventures. Oh... He was Herobrine!

"Herobrine?" I sat up in my bed and rubbed my temples. "What happened to me?"

The girl answered, "you were attacked defending my brother Steve."

That sounded farmilar, but it was foggy. Hera was there too, wait a second...

"Hera," I said, "did we kiss before the battle?"

Hera looked perplexed slightly as if she was trying to figure me out. She must of come to a conclusion because her face fell. Seeing her so sad brought back other memories, a cave where we shared the beds. A fall into water. A fight with some weirdo in a cloak.

"I remember you," I said lightly. Her eyes lit up a bit, quite literally.

I swung my feet off the bed, "I have a few questions, what's with all the enderman? Also why am I here now? Last I remember I was in a field."

Hera looked slightly amused now, "your a Queen, Evelyn. Those enderman are yours."

"Me a Queen," I started to laugh but then remembered some more stuff about the last weeks. "Oh.. your aren't kidding, I'm actually a Queen."

Hera actually rolled her eyes.

"But why are we here?" I asked. "I'm not Queen of the Nether too? Am I?"

"This is my castle," Herobrine said. He had settled himself into a throne. "I brought you here, you'd been stabbed, several times. Your both welcome to stay."

"Wait..." I said, some more memories came back to me, "the cloaked person stabbed me. She was a little girl. But why?"

Hera bit her lip.

What wasn't she telling me?

I strained my mind, I flew, I could fly. Wait... where were my wings.

I reached for my back but felt nothing.

"I'm not even ender freak anymore!" I pumped my fist. But that happiness faded quickly, no more flying. "For once I wish I was an ender freak."

Herobrine chuckled. "You should be able to shift between forms. Focus on your ender side."

I closed my eyes and concentrated. Almost like magic I felt wings grow at my back. The bed was too small now.

"Sorry," I looked slightly sheepish, I had poked Hera with a wing tip. She didn't seem to really mind, except she was rubbing her arm.

Then I remembered something else. "What happened to Steve?" It was all coming back in a slew of horror.

Hera looked a bit sick. "He's dead, he died fighting."

There was a heavy silence that even Herobrine didn't interrupt. I put my arms around Hera gently and held her.

I whispered, "everything will be okay, you'll see."

That was when I saw Herobrine tilt his head, as if he could hear something.

"We have company," he said gravely.
