Chapter 9

Stiles' POV

The owner of the Old bookshop hired me. Actually I was lucky though I'm not sure if it was Lux's doing but the old lady, who apparently is the owner of the bookshop needed help around and she hired me. I'd just help her clean the bookshop, dust the books and arrange them out properly, take in new books when brought and yeah, attend to customers. My dad wasn't aware of my new job though I don't think he'll mind. I have a lot of time to spare anyways since I don't hang out with Scott and pack anymore and I don't have friends to go out with well, apart from Lux though I never had the courage to ask her to hang out with me.... Who wouldn't like to hang out with such a beauty?... I don't understand myself anymore... I'm having feelings for Lux, I know that's inappropriate plus she'd never like someone like me at all... Fragile, sarcastic, ADHD, human, .... I'm not even near becoming a demi-god so obviously I don't have a chance with her. Why I'm I having such feelings? Is it the way she sings? Or the way she gives out proverbic comebacks? Or the way she flips her hair back? Or her smile? Is it her eyes? Or the way she looks gentle and fragile in her hamster form? Or is it the way she's smart and wise?... I really don't know but I like her. I wonder if she likes me as well and the thought of Scott and pack relying on her for protection makes me jealous... Yeah, jealous!... I don't want anyone close to her I just want her here with me, I don't want to share, I really don't want and yet I don't understand why I'm feeling this way!.

I looked around for the book that Lux was talking about. She went to the Nemeton and yeah, I was alone but I didn't mind. She'd promised to start teaching me magic before the combat skills and I was eager to start. I just couldn't wait...

I heard the door open and I was in the furthest corner of the bookshop rummaging through the bookshop. I knew the presence present, it was a familiar one followed by the comforting scent that calmed down my nerves. Since Lux came into my life, my senses opened.... I was alert than before and somehow I could read people's feelings.

"Stiles?". The familiar sweet voice came through and I went where she was standing all graceful and in a long sleeved dress that swept the tiled floor when she walked.

"Lux?". I called back. She turned to face me, features calm as usual. Surprisingly, I could never read her feelings, I guess because she's a spirit or perhaps it's because she's a goddess and she knows how to lock her emotions?.

She raised a brow at me. "Didn't find it". I say, my voice laced in disappointment.

"It's okay Stiles". Lux answered as she moved closer to mW and placed a hand on my shoulder. Her scent overpowering my nose almost intoxicating but still, I love it.

"According to Israel, this building is an ancient one and there's an opening somewhere only that we don't know where," She said as she took her hand off my shoulder.

"Like a safe?". I questioned, she nodded.

"That's where the book is". She answered as she moved a couple steps away from me and her eyes glowed white as she looked around the bookshop.

"Follow me". She ordered as I quickly flipped over the 'open sign' that was on the glass door to 'we're closed' then followed her to the back. The door was closed.

"There is a certain power behind this door Stiles. Do you have the key?". She asked as her eyes turned back to normal brown ones that I truly adored looking into.

"No.. No I don't. Actually since I started working in here, she hasn't given me the key or even allowed me to go inside". I explained though knowing too well that I recently started working here so obviously my employer wouldn't just trust me like that with some crucial and private things.

"Okay we'll still go inside". Lux stated.

My eyes widened at that, "Are... Are we going to break through the door?". I asked. She looked at me with a raised brow.

Hell No!.

"There's no way I'm going to break down the door!. You're the powerful one here, just use a wave of hand and knock it down". I replied flatly.

"Who said that were breaking through doors?". She questioned with an amused smile.

"How are we going to get inside there then?". I questioned as she chuckled and held my hand in hers, intertwining our fingers together sending warmth into my veins..  A tingle that made my cheeks flush with blush.

In the dark of night

The stars light up the sky

We see them flying free

That's just like you and me

Everyone is lonely sometimes

But I would walk a thousand miles to see your eyes

You are not alone, we are family

Hold me, let's escape all this reality

You are my symphony

By your side, we are unity

You are my energy

My guiding light, we are unity

(We are, we are)

"Stiles? Are you even listening?". Lux snapped me out of my thoughts.

"Oh sorry I zoned out". I responded as I shook my head slightly to clear away those thoughts... I was dangerously falling for my guardian. And I know that's it's inappropriate.

"This is not the time to zone out. Focus!". She breathed out, worry lines etching deep her forehead.

"Anyway I was telling you to get ready were passing through the door". She said with a smirk.

"What-". She cut me short..

"It won't hurt Stiles", she said then closed her eyes as her hands glowed white. She extended her free hand towards the door so as to touch it. I took in a deep breathe and closed my eyes as well. Luke warm air hit my face and when I opened my eyes, we were in the back room.

Lux let go of my hand, she'd stopped glowing and was now looking around the room. The room wasn't that big but it looked warm and cosy. There was a marble desk at one side, a shelf with leather bounded books on the other side... There was even a fire place!... A two seat couch and a recliner around a small table that had several small cups and a kettle on top.

Lux took a few steps further in the room, the fireplace roared into life suddenly and then, her whole self, she turned to white, so bright that I couldn't look at her, I had to block the light out with my hands by shielding my eyes.

"Book Of Life". I heard her say.

I looked at her, the light had started fading away and she was looking around in the room. She was back to normal as she turned to face the place where the two seat couch and recliner were.

"Is it here?". I questioned.

She nodded, "I can feel it. Your empathy powers aren't that strong so you'd not feel it's presence strongly as I do". She explained as she made her way towards the two seat couch. I followed her with my eyes. She stopped and looked at me quizzically.

"What?". I questioned.

"Can you feel that?". She questioned back.

"Feel what?". I answered back with a question but before she responded we heard the lock to the door behind me turn and the door itself opened. I closed my eyes and bit my bottom lip... We had been Busted!!.

"Stiles, how dare you come in here?". My employer, the old lady asked. I didn't turn to face her.

"And you even brought your girlfriend?". She questioned. Girlfriend? Oh yeah, she meant Lux. I know they'd never met before. Lux had stayed back in the jeep when I'd come to ask for a job.

I opened my eyes and looked at Lux who just looked back at my employer.

"You came here to steal? Or you came here to make out?". She asked bitterly as she made her way into the room pushing me roughly inside making me to stumble towards Lux who held my arm so as to steady me.

"I'm so disappointed in you". My employer, Lady Clerk spat out.

"Shut up". Lux spat back.

"And your girlfriend has the audesity to talk back to me?.. I think I should call the sheriff and let him know". Lady Clerk said.

Lux stepped in front. So she was standing between Lady Clerk and I.

"I don't know who you are and I actually don't care. You can call even the FBI if you want but I'm not leaving without what belongs to me which you clearly have it hidden in here". Lux said. Using the same bitter-some tone on her.

Lady Clerk's face shrieked with shock but slowly recovered to her hard stern look.

"I believe you are under the effect of drugs because I don't understand what you are blabbing about". Lady Clerk said while sizing Lux up.

"Oh really? Then I think that you'll understand this!". Lux said seriously as she stretched out her right hand to the right side as it glowed, the ground shook a little as a bright light appeared in her hand. She was holding something with a white flame.

She was holding a sword...

My eyed widened and jaw almost hit the floor at that. Lady Clerk's expression was the same. She took a few steps back and went down on her knees and gave three kowtows.

"I'm sorry my lady. I hadn't realized that goddess Lux was here. Pardon me!". She said as she gave the last kowtow.

Lux's appearance had changed a little. She looked younger and more radiant and she looked as if she was glowing a little. If you looked closely at her, you could see an almost invisible but glittering crown sitting on her head. Her sword was gone by now.

"Rise". Lux responded sternly and the Lady Clerk rose up but instead of the old woman, there stood a young lady almost my age, her hair dark and long. Slender, tall, had light brown eyes and was in a brown long sleeved dress almost similar to the one that Lux was wearing. She was beautiful but not as beautiful as Lux. No one cab ever compare to her beauty... She's really a goddess!.

"Lady Clerk?". I questioned, she turned to look at me with a small smile on her face.

"Please call me the keeper". She said. "Pardon me for not realizing that you are the boy who has won favor of the goddess Lux". She said and gave me a low bow.

"Where's the book? We have no time. Bavayada is fast on her way here". Lux said as she took a step towards The keeper.

She smiled and waved a hand over the table. It slowly rose from the ground revealing an opening that opened and there was another leather bound book. I looked at it, I felt numb all of a sudden... My mind was foggy and I couldn't think at all as the book rose from the ground while the table took back it's former place on the floor. The book let out rainbow like colors that glee from the pages. I felt myself raise from the ground, I wasn't myself anymore.... I wasn't in control of my body anymore at a point I even thought that it was the nogitsune back in my mind. I saw Lux looking at me, her beautiful slender hand on her mouth, eyes wide open she was obviously in shock. The keeper was as stunned also. I don't know what was happening but I really needed it to stop.

The book revolved around me as I rose from the floor.

"I thought he was just the keeper of the Book of Life". I heard the keeper say.

"He's not". Lux said in hitched breathed. "He's mine... My mate!". She exclaimed and then, everything went black around me.
