Rainy weather

"Thank you for the meal."

I pressed my palm together, bowing my head lightly.

"Wow, is it a thing from your home?"

Adele made her way towards me, mimicking the gesture I have done. Honestly, I didn't know why I did that gesture.

"I really have no idea. Perhaps."

She clapped her hands together, copying the gesture I have done earlier. She looked at me as if she were waiting for me to comment on her action.

"You did well, Adele."

Adele nodded in joy. She hastily ran off, and I followed her figure until it reduced to total disappearance.

"My sister is very enthusiastic on meeting new people. . Please excuse her attitude."

Adele's brother said in an embarrassed tone. We had a brief eye contact before he went away with plates on his hand. I followed him shortly, carrying the leftover food.

***

The following mornings, doing my usual routine of waking up early in the morning, then washing my face with cold water downstairs.

It has been days since I had woken up in the siblings' house. I have talked some things with them, but it was not about me. I have no memories to talk about.

After three days of staying inside the premises, I could finally venture together with Adele and her brother. But unfortunately, that day, the rain fell hard and it was impossible for us to get a stroll during the gloomy weather.

"It's raining again." Adele commented, staring at the view outside. The rain pattered on the window which clouded the pane.

"Do you not like it?" I asked, spanning my palm on the cold pane. The glass vibrated as the rain pattered on it.

"It's just sad. I can't go out during rainy days."

Adele leaned her forehead on the window, feeling low, just like the gloomy weather outside.

The soothing sound of the rain lulled me, calming my nerves and putting me to a state of sleepiness.

Before my eyes could drift asleep, I called Adele to sit next to me. The girl looked sad over the fact that she couldn't go out because of the rain. I felt bad for the little child.

"Adele, do you like to drink something warm?"

I have something in mind that might help her relieve her sadness for a while. Though I wasn't sure if it will be of help, doing something is better than sitting idly.

Adele, who was sitting next to me timidly, turned her head slowly. Her brown eyes stared into my eyes.

"It's a nice idea, miss. I want to drink some hot drink in this weather."

"Very well, I think I can do something about it."

I rose to my feet to proceed on making a hot chocolate drink. It was something that had crossed my mind after seeing the rain outside. I felt it was a perfect match to this cold weather.

First, I gathered the ingredients needed in making a hot chocolate drink. Obtaining the ingredients was easy and I easily proceeded on mixing them altogether.

Pouring the hot milk onto the pot where it was heated evenly, I stirred the contents thoroughly. Adele watched from my side, amazed in the process.

"What are you making, miss?"

The little girl queried in curiosity. Her attention was now poured onto me. The sad stricken face was now cheering up a little.

With a little enthusiasm in my tone, I answered.

"Hot chocolate. Have you taste it before?"

"Hmm," Adele hummed as she pondered for a moment. "I think I had it before. Brother always treat me something sweet!"

"I'm glad. It might be not as good as your brother's, but it will warm you up a little bit."

"Thank you, miss!" She smiled widely, a smile so wide that her eyes crinkled in the process. Adele is really a sweet girl.

After receiving the warm smile from the little girl, I steered my attention on the bubbling contents inside the pot. Adding the crushed cocoa in the hot milk, the previous white liquid had turned light brown.

The mouthwatering scent of the hot chocolate drink wafted across the air. I heard a gulp from Adele, who eyed the pot interestedly.

After heating it with a mild temperature, I set the mug. Touching the pot, it felt a little hot for my skin. Aw! I puffed short air to cool off the pot, and I decided to use a thick cloth in able to grip on the pot properly.

When I turned my head, coincidentally, I caught the arrival of Adele's brother, Belruth. Our eyes met briefly, and it was me who broke the eye contact. I bowed my head lightly in courtesy.

"Sir, would you like a hot drink? There's more than enough."

I persuaded as I spill the hot drink onto the mug. I gave the first one to Adele, who smiled at me in gratitude as she took the cup excitedly.

"Thank you, miss!"

"Not a problem. Let it cool first, else you'll get your tongue burnt."

I have passed the mug to the little girl, and took another mug for the young man.

"Here, Sir. I cannot guarantee its taste, but I do hope it tastes fine."

Belruth gripped the hot mug carefully, so as not to get burnt. He thanked me afterwards with a gentle smile.

Nodding my head as response, I fixed my stare on the view outside. With gloominess still reigning over the skies, the rain will surely prolong. The cold breeze from the outside passed through the little openings, making its presence known to the people inside.

"It's sweet and nice, miss. It felt nice inside."

Adele rubbed her stomach in satisfaction, releasing a warm breath. She eased her back onto the lean chair, positioning herself to her desired comfort. Seconds later, the young girl fell asleep with her arms circling her knees.

"She fell asleep that easy," Belruth commented with a chuckle.

I seconded his comment through a nod, then emptied my share. The warm liquid flushed the coldness in my throat as I drank it empty.

My body felt warm because of that.

"Thank you, miss. I really enjoyed my share."

Belruth placed the empty mug on the table, its contact on the surface made a little noise. I accepted his gratitude and cleaned the tools I had used right away.
