CHAPTER SIXTY-EIGHT

"Shut it down, Matt! Shut it down!" Adelle cried out as the people inside the examination room continued to mutate. 

The other half that was not altered by the frequency were squeezing their ears, trying to shut the frequency out. They were pleading to be released. To have the torture stopped. To get them away from the monsters in front of them. 

To get them out before they, too, started turning.

But the machine wouldn't shut down. The door would open. The window wouldn't shatter. Percy and the rest were forced to watch the horror unfolding right in front of their eyes, unable to do anything. 

Percy and Adelle held each other as they watch Jet, with blood dripping from his ears, jumped down the table and unbuckled Alice. Despite that he was also suffering, he was watching over her--just like he had promised.
