Danger

I arrived home later that day. The house was already dark, and my dear Mila was in her cradle sleeping peacefully while sucking her little finger. She looked so cute and beautiful that I so wanted to wake her up only to see her looking at me with those cute eyes that resembled her father's.

"Eve?"

The voice of Liam woke me up from my daze. I hadn't even changed my dress and greeted him when I walked to my baby's room.

"Darling, why are you still up?"

He threw me a meaningful gaze. I knew he wouldn't be able to sleep without me, but I had so much work.

"I am sorry, Liam."

"Eve, I…"

He took my hands and moved me towards his chest, hugging my body, caressing my back.

"Eve, you know I don't want to pressure you, darling, but…"

"I know… I know."

I led him to our room, I had to tell him now. This couldn't wait any longer. I made him sit, but my anxiousness was building up so much that I had to leave his arms and walk around the room thinking about how to tell him. He must know.

"Liam, this… promise me something."

I took his hands and squeezed them harder. I hope for him to understand.

"Darling?"

"Promise that you won't get mad. That whatever I say, you will stay calm and… that you will believe me, even if you think it is some fantasy, okay? Promise that you will try to understand and believe me." I saw him, he was confused by my fear and my shaking hands.

"Eve, I…"

"Please, promise me."

He nodded. "I promise."

"Then… sighs… " What is the easiest way to say this? Goodness, this is so hard. "The day I was kidnapped… I already knew them… they never hurt me."

"What? What are you saying?"

"I went with them willingly."

I saw his eyes going dark and angry. "Eve, you… you know how much I was… "

"I know, please Liam, listen to me."

"How? I was going crazy! I thought you were…"

"Please, Liam, calm down. You promise me."

He looked at me again with those confused and angry eyes that now were filled with so much sadness and disappointment. I had to turn away my head, I couldn't see those eyes. I am such a coward.

"Then… what happened? Who are they?"

I could hear his word shaking, trying to remain calm.

"My brothers, and sisters, my family."

He looked at me with incredulity and then narrowed his eyes in danger. A black gaze I never saw before in him surrounded his face.

"… the Lark family?"

"No… they are not my family… I am not who you think I am… well, not completely."

"I don't understand."

"I am a…"

However, before I could explain, the loud sound of the security alarm interrupted my words. I didn't stop to think when my feet ran as fast as they were capable to my baby's room. I heard Liam behind me running too.

The fear inside my mind came crashing like a bullet to my senses. The worst scenarios I could think of were driving my fear crazy. What if they came? What if they harm her?

When I came inside the room, she was still there, crying from the noise. I felt relief and I almost faint, but something was different.

A card… Someone left a card inside my baby's cradle.

'She doesn't belong to this world.'

I felt my hands trembling and panic grow in my heart. My breathing was difficult to control but more than that, I felt the Eve I was trying to hide deep inside me trying to escape, that cruel Eve that Master taught me to tame.

"Eve? What is going on?"

The man was standing beside me and took the card.

"I will go check the security cameras… stay here, don't move."

He was about to leave, but I had to stop him.

"Liam, stay here, please."

I don't know what my eyes were showing, but at that moment I wanted him here with me. He looked at me and didn't go, instead, he hugged me hard.

From that day, we increased the security around the mansion several times, I had to post several members of my team near the Mansion to not leave Mila alone for a second. Maya and Vin visited me frequently, even Grandpa, they heard about what happened and offered help, but I simply declined. I didn't want to bring harm to them. It was better with fewer people involved.

However, my workload increased too. For several days I was inside the office, looking for that damn people, they would pay for what they did, I would not let them continue their little game.

My paranoid self was out of control. I knew Liam was concerned and… I felt him somehow distant from me.
