Good Night

Since Adora knew that I live with the same apartment and not to mention that we are in the same floor with that Travis that she's talking about, she kept on bugging me to bring her there. And I keep on lying and declining her because I really don't know who that Travis is and I don't want to think that Travis and Mister Frustrated Pornstar are one person. But it makes sense.

The rest of the class was just nothing but introductions. Getting to know our professors and classmates and such typical thing that you do during first day of school.

And Neo's silence is bugging me since. He's unusually quiet today and it's bothering me. He's not usually like this. When he was about to head to us car, I approached him. Adora already left, she was fetched by his Dad.

"Neo," I called and he halted and turned to me. "Are you okay? You're awfully quiet today," I told him.

He heaved a heavy sigh. "Are you really neighbours with that Travis?" he asked me. I was not able to answer at first because first of all, I lied to Adora that I saw and knew Travis. And second, I don't know him.

"I actually just lied to Adora. I don't really know Travis," I honestly replied to him. I saw that he beamed when he heard me and ruffled my hair. I was taken aback by his gesture, it's a first.

"Just be careful. I was just worried about you."

"Why? Is something wrong?"

He grinned. "Nothing. Go home now, you have to take a rest," he said and entered his car. He revived his car engine and rolled the windows down. "See you tomorrow, Maddie," he said and waved good bye. I stood there and watched him left before entering my car.

I drove my way to my apartment, it was just a 15 minute trip from school to my apartment. I went up and looked at Room 62 when I passed by. I wonder if he's okay now. I haven't seen him in days and I'm worried sick if he's eating or he's dead already. I just sighed after I stared at the door for too long before entering my unit.

I immediately put my bag on my bed and changed my clothes before laying down. It was just the first day but I'm already tired. But I still have to prepare the added requirements for my class, I don't want to cram.

I stood up and went to the kitchen to look for ingredients. It's still early for dinner though, maybe I'll just buy my school stuff. I grabbed my keys and went out. I don't really know where the mall is or is there any store here that sells school supplies. And I'll be damned because I'm bad at directions especially during the night.

Luckily, I found a mall that's still open at this hour. I went inside and went to find a book store or something. The mall is quiet as it's already 9 in the evening, it's late for the most of the people while it's still early for some.

I went around the floors of the mall, until I found a book store. I immediately went inside and look for the things that I need to buy. After buying all my materials, I went to the book section. I went to the fantasy section and looked for JK Rowling or Nora Roberts or whoever. I was scanning the section when I saw someone sitting at the floor at the law book section, just beside the fantasy section.

I stared at the man who was silenty sitting there while reading a very thick law book. He was wearing a gray hoodie, a black pants and a green converse shoes. He was plugging his earphones in his ear while reading. I stared at him for a while until he's face was familiar to me and he just affirmed it when he looked at me, maybe minding my presence.

Mister Frustrated Pornstar looked at me with a baffled expression. I awkwardly smiled at him. This is the first time that I saw him ever since I stitched his wound that day. I unknowingly let out a sigh of relief to see him doing just fine.

"What are you staring at?" he asked with his very solid Australian accent, taking me back to my senses.

Wait, I thought he's an American? Why is he speaking in an Aussie way?

"You a lawyer?" I asked.

His eyes remained in mine. I can see nothing but a blank expression. "No," he answered and went back to reading.

"Then, why are you reading that law book?"

"Nothing. Just go home, it's getting dark. It's not safe anymore," he answered me. I was a little shocked by his sudden show of concern to me.

"Then let's go home together, it's not safe anymore," I rebutted, copying what he said earlier. He looked at me with amusement but then went back to being blank.

Is he always like this? His eyes seem expressive but he's forcing it not to. His mouth seems like he wants to say something but he just pursed his lips from prevent it from speaking. I think he's a man full of wisdom and is smart but he's good at pretending to be bad at it.

The next thing I know, we are already in each other's car. He let me drove off first, but I made sure he will follow me. I don't want anything to happen to him. Maybe, he won't just get a single gunshot in the arm and a stab in the chest, but maybe this time he will be killed and I won't be there to help him, no one will be there to help him. I just can't afford for that to happen.

We arrived at our apartment and parked our cars. He parked beside my car as it was the only space left. We went to the elevator together. We were eaten by this eerie silence while we are inside. No one dared to talk and no one even dared to breathe. We are in a small, and closed room, just the two of us. We are awkward to each other. I just stared at the buttons in front of me and almost shouted in joy when the door opened. I immediately carried my bag of materials and went out hurriedly.

But before I could even open my unit. What he said next to me left me speechless and I froze for a moment.

"Good night," he said and finally went inside his room.
