Chapter 7
Lab Rat
Opening my eyes it feels as though a boulder has crushed my head. The room is spinning at a million miles an hour and I'm in the middle of it, unable to focus or gain any sort of stability. Trying to move my arm I feel my muscles tense as my arm moves slightly only to be held down by something. Trying to jolt my head forward it is held in its place as my pounding heart begins to upsets my nausea even more as I realize that all of my limbs are strapped down and I'm unable to move… I'm trapped.
As I lay completely still a light shining over me blinding my vision as a beeping begins to screech next to my bed. I can feel my stomach begin to turn as the smell of sterilization begins to enter my nose and the nausea just becomes too much. I throw up as the pungent smell of the stomach acid invades my nose as my throw up covers my face but it doesn't stop. I throw up again only this time it stays in my mouth. As I begin to choke the throw up now seeping into my eyes burning them causing my vision to blur and that damn beeping still ringing in my ear.
I'm helpless. I can feel my body begin to spasm demanding oxygen but it doesn't help. I'm restrained. I can only lay and stare as I feel my body shake even more as my lungs begin to burn a hole in my chest.
The concept of death has never scared me. I've died before after all but what does scare me is the what if's.
What if I don't come back?
What if my powers get stripped?
What if I can't escape?
Self doubt is in all of us. As the throw up begins to fill my lungs my body is at peace. Some people say that when they are about to pass out when they are drowning they hallucinate the people they care about which is why it came as a surprise to me when an image of Death waves to before I close my eyes.
Three times I've died and out of the three times drowning in my own throw up was probably the worst and humiliating yet peaceful death I've had. Sitting up out of my deceased corpse I look at my blue hand confirming my death before immediately getting to work. I look at my body with puke still on its red face and I notice that my clothes are swapped with a lab coat before a peculiar sight catches my attention. My arm it's growing back... it hasn't grown back a lot but it is still noticeable.
"Entry two on subject zero: The time is twelve fifty-two p.m. and test one is complete. Subject Zero reacted to the nausea almost as soon as he woke up which confirmed Doctor Well's theory that Subject Zero's healing is mostly long term, the regrow of his arm only further confirming his theory." Hearing another voice I turn around looking at an older man with grey hair and glasses with an all white lab coat sitting cross legged in a rolling chair staring at my dead body. As he slowly stands up with a recording device in his hand that he clicks off putting it in his pocket he walks over to my dead body putting a hand to my neck checking for a pulse before turning away.
"If Doctor Wells is right about you boy you can change the world as we know it." He mutters to himself as he scans a keycard unlocking the door with a beep as he begins to walk out of the room. Jumping down from the table my body is strapped to I look around the room the beeping that I heard earlier being linked to the heart rate thing next to me. Honestly it looks like a regular hospital room the only difference being that there are no windows, a camera in the corner, and instead of the doctors saving the patients they watch them die.
*clap*
*clap*
*clap*
Turning my head I stare into the cold eyes of death as she sits down on the chair. "You died again huh." She says blandly her tone as dry as can be her outfit the same from our meeting earlier.
"It's nice to see you too Death." I say with a sigh as I turn away beginning to try and find a way to escape. I could use my yo-yo to cut through the straps but I'm not one hundred percent confident in the yo-yo's ability in cutting through the metal door and hypothetically let's say that I did cut through a metal door. I don't know where I am or even what I could do to escape Eobard if he is even here, which I'm sure he or someone else is because he wouldn't leave one of his keys that might restore his speed unattended.
Walking towards the door I try to test something that I've yet to try. Holding up my good arm I slowly bring it down towards the door in a karate chop motion watching intently with baited breath only for my hand to hit the door. As I sigh in annoyance I turn looking back over at Death who has a rare amused look on her face.
"You knew that was going to happen didn't you?" I ask with a sigh as she nods her head. "Then why didn't you say anything!" I bark while spinning in a circle with my arms raised. "I am literally trapped in a room being tested on by a crazy speedster and his sugar daddy and you're just sitting watching me!"
"Stop." Death's voice is quiet and cold, stopping me in my tracks as I try to calm myself down. There is no room for letting my emotions slip here. I am in a dire situation, my worst fears becoming a reality… I'm a Lab Rat.
"I understand the situation that you're in isn't ideal even if you are immortal but you have to deal with it. I cannot help you every time that you have a slip up and pass away I can only talk you through it as best as I can. now what have you come up with so far?" Taking a deep breath I calm myself down sitting down on the floor looking up at Death.
"It would be easy to escape if it was just the old man I could cut through the straps with my yo-yo while his back is turned, kill him, take his key card and leave but I don't know what to do with Eobard." I say while pinching the bridge of my nose in frustration.
"You can't do anything to Thawne." Death says coldly as I shoot her a sneer… she's not wrong.
"I can't beat Thawne as I am now but I can't just give up…" I say softly while looking back at my dead corpse my life has only just begun. I haven't even done anything fun yet I won't give up.
"I never said anything about giving up. I merely said you can't do anything but don't you know a fairly strong Alien who might be able to help you?" She says with a knowing smirk.
"You're not wrong but that would ruin what I already have… wait this could work." For the first time this whole day things could be looking up. Feeling a tugging sensation I know that my spirit will be forced back into my body shortly so letting out a laugh I smile at Death. "Thanks for the help Death! You know you might have just saved my lives today if things go as planned." I say before I feel my spirit get sucked back into my body.

Waking up with a jolt I feel my body lunge forward by instinct only to be held down by the leather straps as the pungent smell of throw up invades my nose, the sterilization smell of the hospital suddenly sounding much better. The heart monitor comes alive again beginning to beep in my ear and the light seems to shine even brighter in my eyes but thankfully the nausea is gone as I lay closing my eyes waiting to begin my plan.
I would cut my straps now but I'm not sure how long it will be until someone comes into the room and I don't know who is watching through the camera so I won't risk my freedom because of impatience.

Waiting lying on the table unmoving I hear the beep of the keycard. Keeping my eyes closed I wait to begin to start my plan…
