Chapter 4

"Code 666, you ready?" he said into the phone. I couldn't hear a reply but I assume he got one because before long he says "Ok" and hangs up. I look at him waiting for him to start the car but he just keeps his hands on the red wheel tapping his fingers against it.

"I thought we were in a hurry, what happened to 'we got to go'?" I say looking at him as he looks at the door that leads into the house. He puts his finger up to his mouth "Shh... for a minute." He says calmly and continued to look at the door. I was going to ask again but then the door was pushed open. I look to see his parents walking through the door dressed like Arbus with their hands full of bags. They walked to the SUV and opened the trunk piling the bags into it taking about two more trips into the house before closing it. They sat in the SUV as his dad turned to stick his thumb up. With that Arbus started the car and drove out of the garage his parents close behind us. "So..." I started looking out the window. "Oh, Shit! That was a big ass chunk." He chuckled look out the window. I follow his line of view to see the man from earlier on the ground convulsing with a chunk of his shoulder missing. I feel my throat get dry and my stomach bubble. I'm feeling very squeamish. I turn my head to quickly look back out of my window. I shake my head a little trying to get the image out of my head.

———Arbus's POV———

I watch the road ahead peeking to look at Kaito. Ever since we passed that dude missing his shoulder he's been quiet.

We still have to stop at the pharmacy before we head to the bunker. My dad has always believed this would happen and trained not only himself but his wife and me along with him. Yep, misery loves company.

We continue to drive until we reach the pharmacy. The roads being mostly clear we got there rather quickly. We pull up to the parking lot which had only a few cars in it mostly in the worker's reserved parking spots. I park the car and take the keys out of the ignition. I look over to Kaito before getting out. He looked pale. "You ok?" I ask he looks over to me his head still pressed up against the window. "Yeah, I'm a shoulder chunk away from being fine." He blurted. I hold back my chuckle and smirk. "You'll be fine." I ensured stepping out of the car and closing the door behind me. I turn to the car my dad was in and tap on the window. He gets out clicking his handgun. "We go in get what we need then leave." He states. I nod my head before looking around. The area looked pretty calm... for now at least. "Get a silencer out the back," I say looking at the gun in his hand.

He opens the trunk to the G-Wagon. When he comes back his gun has a silencer attached. I look back into the SUV on the passenger side where Mom is sitting. "Watch him," I say to her gesturing towards Kaito, She nods.

Dad and I walk towards the Pharmacy all the lights were off and the door was locked. I huffed and elbowed the glass it shattering upon impact. I move aside stepping in after Dad. Everything was still in place. But I guess the real panic hasn't started yet so that's great. We are a few steps ahead.

We walk further into the lobby our boots crunching on top of the glass shards. I follow him to the back of the counter where we started shuffling through the medications taking different steroids off the shelves. Lots of Prozac and Melatonin. I should probably make a mental note not to mix the two.

We slip the pills out of the boxes and into our many pockets. We turn around and leave. Once we make it back to the cars we each get in. I close the door and out of all times to sleepy Kaito decided to sleep now. I shake my head and start the car after throwing the packages of pills to the back seat.

We continue driving but it was taking us a while to get out of the city. Even the side roads started to get a lot of traffic.

We stopped at a red light. My phone starts ringing waking Kaito. He rubs his eyes and answers the phone putting it on speakerphone. "We can't stay on the sidestreets," Dad says. "Yeah, where we trying to go then. There are more and more people trying to get out of town," I breathed.

"Yeah, We could try to go onto the expressway and take a limited-access road from there."He concurred

"Ok, I'll follow then," I say glancing at Kaito who seemed to be nodding back to sleep.

When the light had turned green The SUV took the lead and I followed right after it. We merged onto the expressway and continued for about an hour before getting off and going onto a highway. I would glance over at Kaito every once in a while to see how he was. The highway was rather empty and there wasn't much around but grasslands and a few trees. You can see cornfields that had already been harvested. Kaito started to squirm waking up again. "Do you think my parents will be ok?" He murmured.

It's quiet for a moment before he laughs to himself "I mean they could be... right?" He says more seriously with pleading eyes hoping I would say something to comfort him. "Maybe," I say looking back at the road. I can't lie to him about something like this. Truthfully there's a good chance they already died but there's always a maybe. I hear a sniffle come from Kaito. "Yeah...maybe," I say softly as he sniffles looking back out the window hopefully.
