Terrified

It was hard to concentrate on school when everything seemed to be going downhill with no guarantee to make it out alive as pits keep trying to appear just under your feet. It was something Isobel realized in the light of recent moments. Things aren't as smooth as she predicted and she had prepared for pretty rough.

Isobel continued to gaze at the board as the teacher kept explaining. Her eyes were distant— unseeing some would call it— because her mind was whirling around. Ms Morgan had almost died. She thought as a bitter taste filled her mouth. The old woman was still bedridden for how many days or months; doctors couldn't say. She didn't even know if the old librarian would make it out of all this without any lasting damage.

It was because of her.
