Catalyst

Colorless unseen visibility.

Everything was dark, but hazy words could be made out.

"...Ian Sedia. He was taken in about 4-5 months ago."

"And you chose him as a subject for your experiments?"

"Yes."

"Even after recognizing his indolent nature?"

There was a pause.

"I-I didn't know he'd be this unwanting."

"If you regret choosing him, just offer him as a contribution to Michael's Angel Unit infantry-"

"NO! No no no. He is much too valuable to be made a mere Angel Unit."

"Valuable? Really? Someone who'd rather lay in bed all day than participate in our power-inducing experiments?"

"Listen, listen, Chamuel said he saw something in him."

"Chamuel? Did he just say that or-"

"No, he used his All-Seeing-Vision. He said he could sense an unforeseen manifestation within; a dominating aura. I mean, the guy led an entire mass! Hundreds of people! Hundreds of people who he ordered to literally ravage the property of, and brutally murder his parents' killers. Hundreds of people he basically sent marching into their deaths, and they OBEYED."

"Deaths? They all died?"

"Yes. His parents' killers weren't defenseless. They were a bloodstained cult; armed and ready to dirty their hands whenever they needed to."

"So the Sedia family's associated with a cult."

"WAS associated. That cult is no more. They, and the mass sent in by Ian are all dead. I told you, Ian's ability to authorize is like no other."

"He was from a wealthy family though, wasn't he? Inherit all the money from his dead parents, and now he's got power. Don't tell me you took this kid in just because he was able to bribe a mass."

"The point is that he was able to do such."

"Huh?"

"What I'm trying to say is to remove the green variable. Money out of the picture. What if I could create a catalyst that would disregard all variables and still give Ian authority. What if Ian could do something like what he already did, without the influence of anything but him?"

"Just, Ian Sedia?"

"Just Ian Sedia. Now all he needs to do is realize this, understand the power and potential he has. If he can do just that, he could play an immensely crucial role in A.X.A.'s stratagem to-"

The boy quickly sat up, interrupting the conversation. His eyes wide open, he stared forward towards the two Overseers. One had her hair tied up in a ponytail, and sleek glasses on. The other one was a male with wavy brown hair. He stood slightly shorter than the female beside him.

The two Overseers returned the look, sort of shocked.

"Speak of the devil huh," Ariel said.

The other Overseer walked over to his experimentee to observe the facial injury. "Vidia's been penalized for her actions," he said, pointing at Ian's nose.

Ian furrowed his eyebrows.

"I'm gonna get going," Ariel said, turning around.

"I wish you success on your goals Jophiel."

Ariel then walked out of the room. Jophiel sighed and turned back towards Ian who sat on the pharmacy bed. Bandages wrapped his nose.

"If you'd just followed rules, maybe that wouldn't have happened."

Ian strayed his gaze.

"And Gian-Luca took in your initial penalty," Jophiel turned around. "But don't think you won't get one."

Jophiel then walked out of the room.

Ian looked down at his hands, concentrating his own thought. He felt an unusual flow of essence.

Ian thought he knew everything about himself, but he'd only just realized his view had been too narrow. He'd been observing too vaguely. But today had opened his eyes.

There was something new he learned today, something he probably wasn't supposed to know.

Suddenly an announcement blared. Overseer Gabriel spoke overhead, "Michael, Raphael requests for more units, specifically Seraphim, to be sent to Chamber X. If there are also any Angel Units off duty at the moment, come to Chamber X immediately. Backup is needed as soon as possible in order to regulate a subject."
