On the Run, Again

The night stood still, silent and alone. The hideout only bore a remaining three Sins; Pride, Gluttony, and Lust. Venus continued to isolate by himself in his room, while Gian-Luca sat in the lounge room with Veronica, comforting her apparent sorrow.

"We'd already lost two, and he still chose to leave…? What the hell is wrong with him?" She sobbed into her hands. Gian-Luca could only find himself frustrated at what happened. "I don't know what was up with him, but he didnt look at us the way he did before. It did not feel like he looked at us as comrades anymore."

"What do you mean…?"

"The way he looked at us… It were as if we were disposable to him. Tools."

Veronica sniffled. "No, no… He's not like that. He wasn't like that before! Why is he acting like this now?!"

"There's no authority in our group anymore. The Pact kept each of us at bay, especially the ones with high-risk potential abilities like Venus and Ian. Without Midas and his influence of the Pact, we each have too much freedom, and that unfortunately includes Ian and his morals…"

"Tsk!" Veronica stood up and was about to leave the room out of frustration, but Gian-Luca grabbed her wrist and stopped her.

"We can't stay here for much longer, Veronica."

"Huh?"

"Ian knows the location to this hideout. We can easily be compromised if he ever decides to stand against us."

"But why should we leave? We have everything we need here!"

"We're at risk for an ambush. You know how many numbers Ian can gather with his ability…"

Veronica sighed. "On the run, again…?"

"It's the only way we can survive out here…"

"Like we've always been doing? Is it going to be like this forever?!"

"I don't know Veronica, I don't know." Gian-Luca looked down. "It's hard to make changes in a time like this where everyone is out for blood. The entire world is a burden."

"Guh!" Veronica tugged her arm away from Gian-Luca's grip. "Then what are we gonna do when we leave this place? What is out there awaiting us?!"

"I don't have the answers to those questions right now, Veronica. I'm just suggesting this for our safety…"

She gave him a look of uncertainty, which quickly turned to sorrow. For the rest of the night, she cried in the same spot on the floor, eventually falling asleep to the quietness of the hideout's slumber. Meanwhile, Gian-Luca stayed up all night in his room contemplating what would come next for them, the remaining Sins.

Uncertainty was at its peak.
