Both Midas and Venus clenched their palms in unison.
SHULK—!!!
SQUELCH—!!!
"URG—!!!" Venus collapsed to his knees. A part inside his body had just condensed into a singularity, and imploded.
From afar, in his glaring white suit, Midas looked at him and smirked slightly. "I'm sorry, Venus."
"N-No," he replied. "I should be the one who's s-sorry, M-Midas."
Midas suddenly felt his sight daze. "Huh…?" He looked down at his chest. Right in the center of his stomach was a large gaping hole. He could see blood beginning to leak out.
"Oh…" He dropped to his knees, now at the same level as Venus.
"I-I'm sorry, M-Midas…" Venus looked onwards, tears forming in his eyes. "You sounded like you had so much p-passion… And I-I stripped that all a-away… Just f-for my own s-selfishness…"
Midas coughed and spat up some blood. It stained the inner visor of his helmet. "Ah… I-I see n-now…"
Unlike just previously, Midas now had a helmet covering his face and head. The only way this could happen is if the defensive-adapting plates of his Overseer armor noticed the absence in protection on his face as danger approached.
"I aimed a-at your face, b-but changed the d-direction of my blast t-towards your body in the last s-second…" Venus confirmed it. It's why a clearing was formed at Midas' stomach. The very few plates that remained were tricked into defending Midas' face, leaving his body completely unprotected and free of armor.
"S-Seems like n-nanoplates aren't s-so useful a-after all…" Midas chuckled slightly, as he disengaged the plates that covered his face. His helmet unraveled to reveal a face that was lathered with tears.
"I-I'm so s-sorry, Midas…" Venus whispered. "I w-wanted to d-do what I-I felt w-was r-right for m-my f-friend…" Blood was leaking from his mouth. Venus' heart had bursted, and so there was no where else for his blood or emotions to go.
"It's… okay…" Midas eyes began to cloud. Too much blood spilled from the gaping wound in his stomach.
"You're… still m-my friend… after all…"
The final breath of Greed was exhaled.
Still kneeling on the spot, Midas passed away.
Venus felt his avaricious aura disappear, and smiled bitterly. Without a heart left to beat, he released his final sigh in response.
"Thank you…"
Venus fell to the floor, finally dying alongside Midas.
