Virtual Dungeon

[Welcome to the wolves forest!]

"Wolves again!? Are you kidding me!?"

The choice was completely random so it was not a prank prepared from them, but I must say... my luck sucks!

No matter how realistic simulators became, it still never felt the same as reality, but I have to admit this last generation was getting pretty close as even smell simulation was added to these machines!

As the level started, I found myself in an open forest without any clear delimitation as if I was truly lost in the jungle instead of inside a dungeon.

While dungeon's traditional image in games is associated with caves and prisons, the truth is that real dungeons are rarely composed of tightly closed spaces. They felt more like uncharted territories located in alien Planets light years away from Earth.

The scientists tried to study the Dungeon's stars but they quickly discovered that there was not even an ounce of similarity to the constellations found on Earth, and to make things worse each Dungeon had it's own constellations, which meant they were located in completely different places.

Although things were like this, it was not like there was nothing in common between them. For some unknown motive every dungeon was full of the same strange gas that couldn't be found naturally on Earth, and maybe due to it's influence all Dungeons also had giant beasts that could reach incredible heights.

When fighting something of that size, Using normal firearms, even missile launchers, made almost no damage to them. Their skin was extra thick so new weapons had to be developed specially to counter their sturdy defense. The result was the birth of the Titans and popularization that followed, allowing mankind to became the apex predator yet again.

"Hey fancy pants. What are you waiting for? Lead the way!"

"Eh?"

"Right! Right! We are here to see how you handle the machine, so take the lead and give us a show!"

"Come on, boy! I got a date after this!"

Hearing the team appeal, I started progressing forward while keeping my attention on the radar.

"Quickly! Quickly! We don't have all day!"

They urged me to quicken my pace but I knew the Dungeon was not a place to play around so I continued steady instead.

After a few minutes the radar detected something as it made a beep sound. I changed the lens filter to detect heat and searched around for the creature that should be hiding near here.

"There!"

Unlocking my Titan's rifle, I aimed at the bird, locked on it and gave it a shot.

Bang!

The Titan's system corrected my aim and a beautiful head shot was dealt to the bird, making it fall on the ground.

"Oh!"

"Nice shot!"

"I could do better!"

"Too easy!"

I ignored their comments and continued to proceed. Soon we arrived at a beautiful river full of crystalline water running through it.

"If we continue like this, it will take the whole day! Let's speed things up!'

"What?"

"Boy, we will just watch, if you can survive alone the job is yours!"

"Eh?"

Initially I didn't understand what that guy was talking about, but when he changed his ammo and aimed at me I recognized the smoke emanating from his gun.

"Bait Gas!?"

Bang!

His gun fire and the bullet exploded on me, spreading gas all around me while doing no damage at all.

"Fuck! You are crazy!"

"This is just simulation! You won't die! Now show us what you got!"

(Oh! Right! This is a simulation! For a moment I had lost myself...)

At that moment, it was like all the beasts sleeping in the forest awoke at once. The radar started beeping like crazy detecting an ever increasing number of beasts approaching from all sides. The team retreated, leaving me alone in the river bay and seconds later the battle started.

TA!TA!TA!TA!TA!TA!TA!TA!TA!TA!

A great wolf suddenly appeared and tried jumping over me, so I quickly activated the side step maneuver and shot loosely where he should now pass. The wolf was hit and fell on the ground but I didn't have any time to celebrate as another one was arriving pretty fast.

Great wolves had the size of twice as big as a tiger. They were about half the size the giant ones I faced before but their number was more than enough to compensate this small disadvantage.

Another wolf appeared, another wolf was hit, no time to rest as one more wolf would soon reach my back, so I turned around and swung the energy knife splitting horizontally it's head in two.

One, Two, Three, Four, Five! I lost the count of wolves approaching from all my sides. I had to kill them fast or I would have no space to dodge, but because they moved quickly from coming all directions it was impossible to aim.

"Nice! Keep up like this! Aim at their heads!"

A few of my shots luckily hit their heads, killing five in a split second, but that was pure coincidence! There is no way I can aim while spinning like I'm dancing ballet!

Suddenly my riffle ammo run out, so I had to reload. But reloading now was impossible, I simply didn't have enough time, so I just threw the rifle aside and grabbed the other energy knife.

I continued to kill wolf after wolf but this Titan was not a melee specialized Titan so it was a matter of time before they overwhelmed me.

The Titan I was using was the standard rifleman model. It was equipped a rifle, more than 20 refills, two energy knifes and 6 grenades. The ammo refills were now useless as I threw away the rifle. The knifes were still useful but, like I said, the Titan movements was not fast enough.

As more and more wolves started pilling up over me, I decided it was time to use the grenades, so I activated the grenade button six times in a row while aiming upward.

The grenades made a parable and fell right on my feet. That's exactly what I expected so it was no surprise. I crouched down and let more wolves pile over me and as the six grenades exploded the wolves pilling over me acted a shield protecting me from all damage that could be dealt.

"Wohoo!!"

"Well done!!"

"Wow! I like this boy! He got guts!"

"Nice! But it's not over yet!"

B.B. words worked better than any prophecy, just as he finished saying them the trees started to shake announcing the arrival of the Last Boss. In Real Dungeon there was no such a thing, but this was a simulation so maybe the devs were having some fun.

Before the monster arrived I quickly retrieved my rifle and reloaded it's ammo, then I quickly tested if nothing had broken when I threw it aside.

Maybe I should have done that first before filling the ammo, but I didn't have the time to think straight at the moment so please let it slide. As this random thought passed by my mind, the most honored guest arrived and battle started once again!
