Not Forgotten

Returning to my task I made my way to the clock tower. After getting to the base of the tower I made a right just as the girl at the inn instructed me to do so.

I was in front of a well-designed structure. Unlike most of the other structures here, this building was decorated from head to toe. Large panes of glass covered the sides. In our modern era that would be nothing special, but in a world with no industrialization, panes of glass would be reserved for the wealthy.

The interior was just as nice as the outside. It is well furnished with lots of natural lighting due to the glass windows.

I looked at the signs present at the beginning of every line.

'Let me see, marriage, licenses, oh there it is identification" (Link)

The wait wasn't long and soon I was at the front.

"Hello, are you here to issue an ID card?" (Receptionists)

I nodded to that.

"Okay, did you fill out the paperwork?" (Receptionists)

Paperwork? I hate it when I go somewhere and they ask for unknown paperwork. I wished they would tell you beforehand instead of wasting your time.

I shake my head.

Handing me a quill and form she directed her hand to an empty table and told me to wait in line when I was done.

The form had general information such as race, age, gender, etc. Finished with the paperwork, I returned to the line. Making it to the front again I handed it to her. Taking it to the room in back she came out rather quickly, handing me a small card. I thanked her and paid the commission of 50 rupees.

Leaving the building the sun was getting rather low. While walking back to the inn I saw a group of people wearing armor and wielding all sorts of weapons. They didn't look like soldiers as their equipment didn't match. With curiosity, I followed them into a rather shabby looking building compared to the one I just left. It was still nicer looking than compared to the rest. Inside the building, there were all sorts of people with weapons and armor.

'This must be some sort of adventurers guild, cheap hired hands' (Link)

Bumping into me was a short petite girl wearing a cloak, she also held a blizzard staff in her hands.

'Are elemental weapons less rare than I thought?' (Link)

"Sorry, I didn't mean to bump into you" (Cloaked Girl)

Tilting her head up I got a better view of her, she had shoulder-length silver hair with light blue eyes just like mine. Upon seeing me she immediately blushed and ran away.

'What just happened?' (Link)

I was rather curious about this building, waiting in yet another line I spoke with a receptionist. I saw her name tag, her name is Clair. Showing my ID she led me to the back for some testing.

In the room, there was a strange device that looked like it was made out of guardian parts. Giving me a needle she said the device needed a drop of my blood.

'What sort of sinister contraption is this?' (Link)

Poking my finger I let a drop of blood fall onto the device, with the same blue hue as the pedestal it lit up. After a minute I heard mechanical sounds as a sheet of paper was being printed out.

"Let's see here, oh you're currently level 7. That's quite high for someone of your age?" (Clair)

In the game there was an invisible experience system, killing monsters awarded XP. After passing a certain threshold the player would level up, but instead of making you stronger, it made all enemies in the world stronger. That might discourage you from fighting, but the stronger enemies also spawn with stronger weapons. So as Link, me, leveled up I would fight stronger monsters for their better weapons. Though that should only apply to Link, me. Does everyone else gain XP from killing monsters?

I asked the importance of levels, she was shocked that I didn't know. She said that upon leveling up you can bring offerings to the Goddess Hylia and she will grant you power.

"Since you're level 7 you can increase your strength a maximum of 7 times. After that, you'll have to level up more" (Clair)

'What is this?' (Link)

Still this made sense, if the citizens of this world didn't get stronger how would they protect themselves from monsters like bokoblins and lynels. The Goddess Hylia hasn't abandoned these people.

Filling out information on a form, I was shortly given a guild card. Things sure are fast in this world. I would've had to wait weeks for the DMV to reissue me my license, here it only takes a few minutes.

My next question was about the strange machine, apparently the machine was created in the Akkala Ancient Tech University. University?

She said about 50 years ago a university was created in the northeastern Akkala region, the founder was a man named Robbie. The purpose of the university is to research guardians and create weapons to fight against them.

Looking at the card it had my name, level, and rank. She then explained the ranking system to me, at the low end of the spectrum were the F ranks. Most of the F ranks were young people looking for quick work. At the higher end of the hierarchy were the SSS class, because instead of using more letters of the alphabet you use the S class system. Anyways, she explained to me that ordinary people could only obtain S rank as their highest rank.

'Ordinary people? I don't think I'm ordinary, I mean I am the Hylian Champion' (Link)

I asked what made people special, she said some people were born with elemental affinities. They are known as elementalist.

All people can use elemental weapons with enough practice. Elementalist can produce elemental effects on their own.

The Gerudo Champion Urbosa had the ability to summon lightning, I asked if there was any correlation. She said Urbosa wasn't an elementalist. Urbosa didn't create the lightning, she merely manipulated storm clouds and summoned strikes of lightning from them.

With all my questions answered, I was going to leave the room when she stopped me. She asked what I was doing tonight, I said I was going to have dinner and head back to my inn. She said her shift was almost finished, if I waited for her she would show me an affordable but delicious restaurant. As much as I would love to go on a date with her, my eyes are set on Zelda. Turning her down she showed a slight frown.

In the main lobby, there was a crowd gathered at one side of the room. Going to the crowd I wondered what attracted their attention. There was an elegant request that stood out among the others.

'Lynel in the Colosseum Ruins, B ranked and up, reward 5 gold rupees'

That was all the information they had. What was the color, what weapons did it have, were there any other monsters? This job didn't seem to be worth the risks.

The cloaked girl from earlier was in the crowd, she looked at the request with bright eyes. She couldn't possibly want to take that request?

All around me people began to whisper.

'It's the Frost Witch'

'She'll probably accept this quest'

'I wish I could join her party'

Apparently the girl was quite famous, perhaps she was one of those elementalists I heard about. Breaking out of character I walked towards her, stopping in front of her I just stood there in silence for a second. Upon seeing me she turned beet red, mustering up my courage I asked if she was an elementalist. Speaking in a soft low voice she said something, it was hard to hear with all the people around. I asked her to speak up, yelling this time she said she was an elementalist. I backed up a little surprised. Then a man with a spear came from behind her.

"Is this person bothering you, Yenir?" (Man with Spear)

"No, he was just asking me a question Kenness" (Yenir)

The man named Kenness turned to me with a death stare.

"If you don't want a black eye I'd suggest you disappear" (Kenness)

Nodding I begin to walk away.

I was a little short on money, going to a counter for what seemed like transactions I exchanged some bokoblin parts. They even accepted resources such as amber and opal. Most of the parts I had were quite common, I made up in quantity.

Leaving the guild I headed straight to the inn.
