Rice fields sowed as far as I could see, farmers waved as we passed by. Shepherds followed their sheep as they grazed the fine grass.
It's beautiful.
The rice should be relatively cheap here, it might increase in value in extreme climate regions like the Gerudo Desert or the North-Western Tabantha region.
Hateno City, in the game it was no bigger than Baron William Castro's Estate. Now it's at least as big as any city I've come across, maybe even bigger.
At the gates we showed our identification, the guards acted funny when they saw Shronia's card.
"An elementalist huh. You better be careful, all of the elementalists that were living in this city are gone" (Guard 1)
Gone? Did they pack their bags and leave?
"What do you mean gone?" (Shronia)
"It happened a few weeks ago, one night all the elementalists in the city went missing. Then the following night, the elementalists residing in the castle vanished as well" (Guard 2)
That's what happened. Either they were killed or someone kidnapped them. Whoever did this must be fairly strong. Could it be the thief who stole the Baron's heirloom?
"Just be careful at night" (Guard 3)
I wanted to investigate the disappearance but this job seemed like a problem for the city. Even if I did want to help, I wasn't a detective in my past life.
Thanking them, they let us into the city.
As usually there are many shops and vendors lining the main street.
The Myahm Agana shrine should be near the entrance to this city.
It took a little while but we found the shrine. The shrine is near a newly constructed area, the buildings are unlike any of the other buildings in this city.
For most of the structures, roughly cut stones form the foundation, a rubble masonry comprises most of the structure and a tiled roof covers the top. The architecture is reminiscent of southern Europe's designs.
In this area, the buildings are modular. Instead of stone is the main building material, wood is. The buildings are brightly colored and have pyramid-shaped roofs.
The area around the shrine is untouched. Even though it is within the domain of Hateno, it's like an invisible barrier surrounds the shrine.
With no hesitation, we entered the shrine.
The shrine only has one puzzle, walking up a flight of stairs to my right is a control terminal. In front of the terminal is a giant movable maze, scanning the Sheikah Slate over the terminal it linked. I could rotate the maze around to my liking by rotating the Sheikah Slate. The goal is to maneuver the Orb out of the maze and into the ditch. There is a simpler way.
Flipping the maze upside down I have a flat surface to work with. I waited for the pipe to drop an Orb down, carefully I rolled it into the ditch. There is a chest in this shrine, but the loot inside isn't worth the effort.
The amiibo filled the Sheikah Slate with all the resources I could ever need.
It might not take much time but I'm too lazy to loot the contents. It's like when your sibling leaves a tiny gap when they close the door. It isn't much effort, all you have to do is get up and close the door.
No, who in their right mind would do that. It isn't worth the effort.
Receiving the Spirit Orb we left the shrine.
As we left the shrine an idea popped into my head.
'Could I max my health and stamina?' (Link)
In the game, there is a way to max your stats out. Usually, you can have a maximum of 112 health points and 3 stamina gauges. Using the glitch I can max both out. However, I need more things before I can perform the glitch.
I'll do it later.
Upon a hill on the east side of the city is a giant telescope, that is where the Hateno Tech Lab is located.
The trail leading up to the lab is well kept and unlit stone lanterns ran along the sides of the pathway.
The Tech Lab isn't a pretty sight, it looks like someone just used an abandoned windmill and turned that into a laboratory.
We tied our horses to a nearby tree, I knocked on the door.
A man in his 40's opened the door, his name should be Symin.
"Hello, a pair of Sheikahs? Do you have business with Purah?" (Symin)
The man had a fair build, with his glasses he looked like a typical librarian.
"Yes, my name is Link" (Link)
"Link! Could you be the legendary hero Link?! Could you show me proof?" (Symin)
I nod.
I showed him the Sheikah Slate dangling from my waist.
"It is you! My name is Symin, I am the assistant to the director of this tech lab. Please come in" (Symin)
The inside is a little messy. Books and papers were scattered around everywhere with a thick layer of dust coating everything.
"Sorry for the mess, every time I clean she always makes another" (Symin)
In the middle of the room is a short lady and I mean short. Even while standing on a chair, she barely reached my neck.
"Director, at long last, Link has come to us" (Symin)
Purah was busy writing something down so she didn't seem to notice us when we came in. When Symin said my name, she came to life.
"OH LINK, you finally came" (Purah)
Not only did she look like a little kid, she even acted like one. Her voice is high pitched and she is erratic.
She wears a pair of large round glasses, atop her head is some sort of Ancient Sheikah device. Despite being over a hundred years old, she looks no older than a 6-year-old.
"Hiya, my name is Purah. I'm the director of this tech lab!" (Purah)
"Mhm" (Link)
"Linky do you remember me?" (Purah)
I nodded yes, if I had said no there would've been a long and annoying dialogue part.
"YOU DO! I'm so glad!" (Purah)
She started jumping up and down in joy.
"By the way, who's this?" (Purah)
"My name is Shronia, I'm helping Link out on his journey" (Shronia)
"Nice to meet ya" (Purah)
She waved hello with both her hands.
Then Purah started doing weird poses while speaking.
"To help the one true hero, I, the one and only Purah, will restore the basic functions missing from the Sheikah Slate!" (Purah)
In the end, she made scissors with her fingers and placed them in front of her right eye.
I nod. Here comes the side quest.
"There's just one problem, the furnace outside is unlit. Could you please bring the blue flame from the ancient furnace and light our furnace" (Purah)
Honestly, why didn't they build the lab next to the furnace?
Before shoving us out she gave me a card, it looked like a business card.
I went to a general store and bought 2 handheld lanterns. If it rains, the lanterns will protect the flame.
Leaving the gates we headed north, after about an hour on horseback we saw a bright blue flame hidden in large stones.
Like the shrine, the area around the furnace is untouched. I lit both lanterns.
As we returned to the city the guards stopped us.
"Whoa there, please extinguish the flames before entering the city" (Guard 1)
I showed him the card Purah gave me.
"Helping Purah, yeesh. Good luck" (Guard 2)
They let us in.
On the left side of the tech lab is a small furnace, I transferred the flame.
The entire lab glowed and a small teleportation circle formed outside the tech lab, this will be useful when I come back here with enough ancient cores to upgrade Stasis.
We entered the lab.
"Good job Linky! I knew you could do it" (Purah)
"Forgive me, usually I rekindle the furnace, but my aging body has made it more difficult recently" (Symin)
"I'm just glad to help" (Link)
Purah has been eying the Sheikah Slate.
"Do you want to see it?" (Link)
"Of course, gimme" (Purah)
I let her play with the Sheikah Slate for a while, but still, nothing happened.
"Aw, I guess it only reacts to you" (Purah)
She was sad, she smiled just a few seconds later.
"I know! Show me all the features on the Sheikah Slate" (Purah)
She pleaded while showing me her puppy face.
"I too would like to see what the Sheikah Slate has to offer" (Symin)
I nod.
I went outside as displaying some of the features inside could be dangerous.
The scope feature is the easiest one, I zoomed in on Hateno beach and showed it to them. On goers are relaxing while sipping on coconuts, children playing in the sand.
"Wow, you can see from far away" (Purah)
"Incredible, it's like a portable telescope" (Symin)
I showed Remote Bomb, they could touch the bombs created from the Sheikah Slate however they couldn't press the detonate button even though it is shown on the screen.
I showed them Stasis next, I took an apple out from the Sheikah Slate.
"Where did that come from?" (Symin)
"The Sheikah Slate. I can store hundreds of items into the Sheikah Slate, though I can only store a couple of swords, shields, and bows" (Link)
"Maybe its a safety feature, if someone like a Yiga member could use the Sheikah Slate they might try and smuggle hundreds of weapons" (Symin)
"I never thought of it like that" (Link)
I threw the apple in the air, before hitting the ground I froze it in mid-air. Everyone tried touching the apple and Shronia tried grabbing it, no matter how hard she pulled the apple wouldn't budge.
I stopped her, all the touching and pulling is transferring kinetic energy into the apple. I punched the apple away from us, the apple flew with tremendous speed and force, if I hadn't done something someone might have been seriously injured.
Magnesis was next, I used the lynel sword as my metallic object. Like the apple, they tried pulling the sword to no success. An idea formed.
I took the lynel shield out and told Purah to get on top, I used Magnesis and she started floating.
"I'M FLYING! HAHA" (Purah)
She leaned over a little too much and fell down.
"Ouch... Again again" (Purah)
Everyone got a turn, even Symin.
For Cryonis to work I needed water.
"Do you have a tub for water?" (Link)
"Yes, I shall bring it" (Symin)
"I'll help you" (Link)
We came back with a tub filled to the brim with water. Using Cryonis I create a pillar of ice, due to the small size of the tub the pillar this time was no more than 2 feet tall. Usually its around 10 feet in height.
After the Cryonis demonstration, I stood a good distance away from the teleportation circle near the lab and teleported there.
I then showed them the time, weather, and other general apps like on a regular smartphone.
I couldn't show them the amiibo feature as I already used it this morning.
That should be everything that the Sheikah Slate can currently do.
After the show, Purah looked troubled.
"Wasn't there a camera feature? I remember Zelda taking pictures of everything" (Purah)
"Yes, but I can't access it" (Link)
"Let's fix that" (Purah)
Purah has taken the Sheikah Slate and placed it on the pedestal inside the lab. A robotic voice began speaking.
'Sheikah Slate authenticated'
'Camera, Hyrule Compendium, album, Sheikah Sensor missing files confirmed'
'Starting Repair'
After a few seconds, the Sheikah Slate popped up indicating that it is safe to eject.
"Ta Da, camera feature restored" (Purah)
She handed the Sheikah Slate back to me.
I browsed through, sure enough, the camera feature has been restored.
"Let's take a group photo!" (Purah)
"Photo?" (Shronia)
"Yep, it's like an instant portrait. I think some old pictures are still in the Sheikah Slate" (Purah)
There are a few old pictures taken before the Calamity, they were taken by Zelda.
"Okay, everyone huddle up" (Purah)
When we were all in frame, I took a selfie.
"Lemme see!" (Purah)
I showed everyone the shot.
"Look! Look! It's us!" (Purah)
"It is like an instant portrait" (Shronia)
"If I had access to that, I could document new discoveries with ease" (Symin)
They are all impressed by the camera, it may seem like a generic smartphone app but in combination with another feature, it is one of the most useful abilities the Sheikah Slate has to offer.
One of the other features the Sheikah Slate has is the Sheikah Sensor, it allows the Sheikah Slate to sense nearby shrines. If I upgrade Sheikah Sensor to Sheikah Sensor+, I can search for more than just shrines.
"Purah, can you upgrade the Sheikah Sensor for me?" (Link)
"Sure Linky, just come over here" (Purah)
She took me over to the pedestal, placing it down a tab opened up showing me what features I could upgrade.
[Sheikah Sensor+
Required materials: 3 Ancient Screws
Remote Bombs+
Required materials: 3 Ancient Shafts
Stasis+
Required materials: 3 Ancient Cores]
I press the "required materials" button for every upgrade besides Stasis+ as I don't have the materials for it yet.
Sure enough, they have been upgraded.
When I take a photo of something new the Sheikah Slate documents it into the compendium. The compendium will display the most common location for that item and a slight description. With the use of Sheikah Sensor+, I can select a photo and it will guide me to its location.
In a different tab, there is a photo and description of every one.

Current Location: X-3782 Y-2128]
Howard McCarten? That must be my name from my past life. I died from cancer, what a common way to die. Temporarily? Will Link take over again?
"Link what's wrong? "(Shronia)
Shronia looked over at me.
"Nothing" (Link)
"You made a weird expression just now. Is something bothering you?" (Shronia)
"Really, its nothing" (Link)
I feel bad for tricking her into believing I'm Link. I'll have to tell her eventually.
Trying to change the topic, I picked Shronia's photo and walked around the room. As I moved about the Sheikah Slate would ping, as I got farther the Sheikah Slate would go silent, as I got closer the Sheikah Slate pinged.
I did this with everyone present.
"Link, is the Sheikah Slate broken?" (Symin)
"No, this is just a feature that comes with the camera feature. It allows me to find things like creatures and weapons" (Link)
Great, it worked. The topic shifted away from me.
"How does it work?" (Symin)
"With this feature, I will be able to find anything within a 50-yard radius, given that I have already taken a picture of the object. It can be a living thing or a mineral, as long as I have a picture I can find it by listening to the ping" (Link)
"Very intriguing" (Symin)
Symin has been writing in his notepad this whole time.
After rediscovering memories that don't belong to me, the sun was setting so we said our goodbyes.
"Thank you for helping us, goodbye for now" (Link)
"No problem Linky, come back anytime!" (Purah)
"Bye, thank you for helping us" (Shronia)
"Take care of the Hero, he is our last hope" (Symin)
We took our leave, now let's see if I can break the system.
