I didn't say anything more on the subject.
Case looked pissed. His knuckles were white, he was gripping the steering wheel so tightly. His sharp jaw was made sharper by the fact his teeth were clenched.
"Are we going home...?" I asked,
"Do you need to go anywhere else?" His voice was angry, but the anger wasn't necessarily directed at me.
Thank God.
"No." Was my reply,
Case shrugged. "I guess home then."
That was a first.
He never took me just home. He always picked up food or something, or makes think he was going to a drug deal because he was just a brat like that.
I knew I shouldn't say anymore on the topic...but I was really curious,
"Case why-" I cut myself off. Thinking about the last time I got to 'curious'.
He looked at me, "Why what?"
I shook my head quickly. "Nothing."
"Princess." Case said sternly
"Maybe if you use my real name..." I mumbled
"The one time I did, you called the cops." Case said,
"First off, that's not why, and second, I didn't even call them." I informed,
"It doesn't matter, I would have gotten away anyways." Smiled Case cockily.
"Yeah yeah....hey I've been meaning to ask.." Case didn't even realize I'd changed the subject,
"Yes...?" He looked over at me,
"Eyes on the road, and I know your in with Eastside, what about those guys with the skulls and bandanas?" I asked
"First off, I'm not in the Eastside, I own the Eastside. Second, those guys with the skull logo, they are the leaders of the Westside. They're weak and they know they can't win by force, so as you might have guessed, you are the way to that." He said.
I frowned. "What about those guys from the alley?"
"They are from the Southside. I'll just be honest, I needed that alliance you ruined-" I'm rolling my eyes here "-because otherwise, the Southside will destroy the Eastside." He explained
"But why?" I asked
"Why what?"
"Why would they destroy the Eastside?" I asked,
"Well why not? More land. More territory. More people. More money. The list goes on and on." He said
"So...There's an Eastside, Westside, and Southside, I'm gonna bet there's a Northside?"
"Yeah. Their staying out of it for now, if my sources are correct." He said cooly.
"So who else is in the Eastside?" I asked, ignoring the fact that he pretty much told me were both toast due to about three gangs hating him.
"Uh, well I don't think it's important."
"Your wrong."
"Their just a bunch of guys who want some thrill." He said, shrugging carelessly.
"Do they know about me?" I asked,
"Princess, everyone knows about you." Case smirked.
"Oh wonderful. Can I meet them?" I asked
"I dunno...maybe one day." He shrugged.
I frowned. "What are they gonna wanna kill me too?"
"No, it's just better to keep you under the radar."
"Under the radar?"
He nodded, then stopped in front of my apartment. "Have fun." He said.
"Oh yeah, lots of fun not being able to leave my apartment."
"Yup." He smiled, leaning over to open the door for me.
I got out, and waved as he drove away.
Not leaving my apartment....
You don't like that plan do you Alex? Said that voice that seemed to have replaced the voice of reason,
No. I don't think I do.
Remember the other day at school, one of those girls invited you to a party as she tried to flirt with Case?
I do.
You should go to that party.
Wonderful idea.
I went up to my apartment, humming contently.
I know, I know, it was a stupid idea. But...if someone was stalking me, they would know I would never go to a party.
I just needed to rebel. I mean I am a teenager right?
And I wonder where my problems come from.
They said the party was around 10 so I had some time to burn.
Which meant, woo hoo, homework.
Harley wasn't going to be home until later. I wasn't sure how much later. I would just leave a note. Say I was going to a friends house.
Because, despite what you might think, I do have friends. They were just in different schools. That's my luck.
I figured I'd show up around 11ish. I walked into the apartment, sitting at the desk and taking my pencil and math book.
Here's the thing about math, I get it, it's useful sometimes, I get it, algebra is supposed to test how smart we are, but, isn't this a bit excessive?
When will I ever, ever, use the Qualdralatic Formula? I didn't even know what that was until I was forced. I haven't needed it up to this point, how can I need it in the future? And I'm just getting started, when am I ever going to graph a circle? Who does that? No one. No one does that. I'm not going to be doing anything that requires this kind of math when I get a job or whatever. I won't. So, this all leads up to the question, why?
Rant over.
I looked at the clock. Five minutes had passed.
Oh joy. This was going to be a long five hours.
* * *
See those little symbols? Those are astros. They mean time has passed. They mean seven freakin hours of pure math torture have gone by.
And they were gone, I assured myself.
I was standing in front of the mirror, applying black lipstick and dark makeup to make myself look not so much like me.
Just in case some crazy gang member was looking for me, they wouldn't recognize me.
Yeah it probably wouldn't work, but you know...at least I was doing something.
I slipped on my jacket, over the band tee I was wearing,
Black Veil Brides all the ways right?
As you probably expected I had re filled my pepper spray, and put it in my pocket.
I glanced at the time, 11:04, I grabbed my phone and left the apartment.
The party was at some cheerleaders house, it wasn't far from my apartment. I could just walk. It was only a few blocks.
I know what your thinking, famous last words, or, she's going to get kidnapped.
Well.
Jokes on you because, at 11:27 I walked in, completely unharmed.
Just looking in, I could tell about half of them were already drunk.
Little early for that isn't it guys?
I walked in,
"Heyyyy! Alexxx!" Happily slurred some girl I vaguely knew as Christine,
"Hey Christine," I smiled, realizing happily that, everyone here probably knew who I was, and, as a bonus, they were too drunk to hate me.
Christine put her arm around my shoulders, "I'm sooo glad you came!" She was speaking very loudly.
"Thanks," My face held my pleasure, this was all very entertaining.
"Yeah! Noooooooooo problemoooooo!" She laughed loudly,
I laughed with her, she led me over to the table, it had pack after pack of beer on it, along with bottles of Vodka, wine, and a bunch of filled shot glasses.
Now, I've had alcohol, occasionally, at various parties. And I wasn't planning on getting drunk. I split a beer with some other random girl that walked up, who acted like we were long lost friends.
I walked through the crowd, holding my Red Solo cup. The Bud Lite sloshed around inside of it. I took a sip, almost cringing at the taste.
But after awhile, I got used to it. And half a bottle turned into a full bottle, then another. I was joking around with people who I had only ever passed in the halls, all of us telling stories that seemed ten times funnier than usual. Then, out of nowhere-
"Hey Beautiful," smiled Clent Blackwell.
And who is Clent Blackwell you might ask?
Let me introduce you to the Captain of the football team. He's 6' 3", just a bit shorter than Harley. He had tan skin and black hair, his features seemed to have been chiseled. He was extremely muscular, and...damn he was just fine ok?
I swallowed.
"Hey.." I said, looking up at him, I wasn't drunk yet. Well...I didn't feel drunk, wait was I drunk? I started to panic, what if I was? Wait what if I am? I could be? Am I? I thought for a second, then decided...oh well,
Clent held out two shots, he handed one to me, "On three?" He smiled, as though we were friends.
I nodded. "Ok.." his eyes were sparking and I couldn't say no.
"One, two, three." He said, drinking his,
I drank mine, and was smart enough to do it quick, making sure to only scarcely taste it. I wanted to gag,
I smiled at him in a dazed way, "Another?"
"I was hoping you'd say that.." Clent slurred, smirking as he led me over to the table,
A sort of tingling came over my body, and I couldn't really tell if I liked it or not....I decided I must like it or I wouldn't be asking for another...right?
As I looked around, my mind started to wonder why I didn't come to parties more often. I looked up as Clent held out another, I took it and drank it the same as the last one.
I narrowed my eyes, Clent was blurry now. Why was he blurry?
Somewhere, in what small part of me was still sober, I could tell he was drunk too, and my instincts were telling me I should probably get home.
But I was a lot more drunk then I was sober, and at the moment, I just wanted another shot.
I picked up two and handed one to him,
He clinked his glass against mine and we drank them,
He leaned down suddenly, holding my face with one hand and kissing my lips. His other hand set on my waist and slowly went under my shirt, not rising...yet.
Wow that was unexpected, I thought in my drunken mind.
But....making out seemed really enjoyable at the moment,
I stood on my tippy toes so I could reach him better, I kissed back, wrapping my arms around his neck.
Oh, the effects of alcohol.
