Spiders…
Walking over to the conspicuous black garbage bag in the middle of the alcove I can't stop the growing dread but I push it down and ignore it in favour of doing what I have to do and confirm just how dangerous this man is and reaffirm my dedication to stopping him and so crouching down I reach my hand down and grab the edges of the garbage bag and pull it down revealing underneath what I knew to be there all along, the face of a dead man lay before me cold and lifeless with his dead black eyes staring up at me unseeing and I'm disturbed by just how much this doesn't bother me and instead I strangely feel vindicated and happy to find this dead body as it is proof of Professor Miles Warren's madness which makes me feel bad since I should be feeling horror and sickness at the sight of this dead body but instead all I can feel is happiness until it finally clicks that the murderer has been in close contact with Gwen for who knows how long and all I can feel is dread filling me to my stomach.
I have to get that fucker away from Gwen as soon as possible and I have to do it in the best way as possible which means I have got to act soon and fast otherwise this creep might just up and vanish or create a clone of himself which will take his place for anything that happens to it and I will be unaware of the real threat lurking in the darkness which means that whatever I do apart from having to be soon and fast must also stick and make sure this guy is never ever going to be a threat ever again which means I have to collect every piece of information and evidence about this guy and once I have all of that on hand I can analyse it all and figure out just how to deal with this creepy old man and the first bit of information I have to collect is on this dead body that is stinking u the basement and is definitely my first potential avenue to destroying professor Miles Warren, right now all I can see of the dead body is the head which is just a normal guy having black eyes, a white face and short black hair swept to the side but apart from that he is pretty average apart from this guy looking pretty ugly himself but right now that is not enough information for me to go off of and so I shimmy the black garbage bag down the corpse to gain more clues and I am thankful when it turns out that Warren hadn't stripped the body of its clothes otherwise I would have been staring at a naked dead dude but I am even more grateful when I realise that the dead guy is wearing some brown pants, a white shirt with a brown tie and a white lab coat on top which fortunately happens to have a nametag on it and so I can assume that this guy was at least a scientist or something given his lab coat.
Looking at the name tag I find out that this corpse's former name used to be Anthony Serba whoever that was which I don't know and finding out is going to take some serious investigation or I could just google the name which I soon do and it makes sense that I can easily do so since I am connected to the university wi-fi down here and the signal is actually quite a lot more powerful and faster than it would be out of the basements though I suppose that that would make sense since Professor Warren must've boosted and bettered the wi-fi down here and since he is a genius it wouldn't be hard to do whatever he wants to with the internet in the university, searching the name Anthony Serba I am barraged by countless hits and so I have to specify my search by putting New York after Anthony Serba in the search bar which narrows it down a lot and it doesn't take me long to find exactly who I am looking for and gathering some basic information on him I learn that Anthony Serba here is a science major and was working as a lab assistant to one professor Miles Warren and poor Anthony suddenly disappeared a few months ago and no one knows where he went and since then Miles warren no longer has any lab assistants for some reason so I can only assume that Anthony Serba got a bit too close due to his position and discovered something which the Professor didn't want him to know which sealed his fate of being left down here in this dark dank basement in a black garbage bag.
This information is great and all but how do I use it to my advantage as I have to make Miles Warren and his probable Jackal identity disappear with impunity and right here I have a murder he has committed but I can only assume that this guy was murdered because he got too close and found out about Warren's research and his research according to my meta-knowledge and the information I scrounged up to do with him here is bound to genetics with a specific interest in cloning and while he hasn't taken that too far in the public eye merely doing some small achievement cloning frog cells I can only wonder how far he has gotten with his human cloning behind closed doors and I can only feel sorry for Mr Serba who found out answer to that very question but the fact remains that Warren's research no matter how many people won't like it is valuable and even if he does get arrested for this murder he will most likely get picked up by the government and forced to work for them and with that his research will advance and make him even more dangerous when he eventually escapes and comes for Gwen so I can't solve this by gathering evidence and having him arrested since that will just make him more dangerous, maybe I am looking at this wrong as I can't properly get rid of this man with a finality without some drastic measures but the reason I want to get rid of him is because he is so dangerous and the reason he is dangerous is because of his genius and so going by that logic if this man was not a genius then he would not be a danger so perhaps my way to make this bastard a non-issue and essentially de-fang him is to take away his genius which shouldn't be too hard since I made a collar that could supress peoples powers by messing with their minds then I could easily make a device to mess with Professor Miles Warren's mind and dumb him down permanently and even start erasing his memories and changing them if I want and if I find too many disturbing things in that mind then I can always just metaphorically lobotomise him and wipe his mind but I shouldn't be thinking about such methods without first finding just how far he is in his research as that will determine just how much time I have and what options I have since it will take me a long time to get a working mind altering device.
Now I have to find a way into the deranged professors lab and so I quickly pull the black garbage bag up over the dead body of Anthony Serba and make sure I fully cover him and he is just as I left him before stalking back over to the high tech door to figure out a way inside but when I get there I discover my first obstruction in the form of an eye reader barricading my access to his hideout and unfortunately for me shapeshifting is not one of the powers I got from the spider so I don't have a way to access this door from the outside but that doesn't mean I can't get it to open for me from the inside because as much as people like their security they like it on only one side which is usually the outside going in and not the inside going out because who want to use an eye scanner twice and so I can assume that the security inside is less to open the door and luckily for me I do have a power that will help me get a look inside and I literally ran into my little minions earlier, focusing I spread out my thoughts flicking a switch in my head and broadcasting my thoughts to my surroundings and connecting to as many as I can and all of a sudden they come running out of the woodworks spiders of all shapes and sizes gathering in a miniature army beneath me and awaiting orders for what to do next but I leave the rest on standby as I pick one of the ones near the front and focus expressly on him and suddenly I'm looking up at my human body with eight different eyes while also looking directly back at myself which is weird but you get used to it and really all I'm doing id viewing what the spider sees and giving it orders in real time and so it shoots off into a little nook somewhere after I gave it the order to get into the room behind the door and evidently there was no entrance around the frame of the door so I guess Miles secured it but he obviously didn't secure all access point no matter how small.
Honestly I was ready to lose this ability when I fashioned my mind protection device and implanted it in my head but to my surprise I actually retained this ability although it got a bit more difficult to use it just took a bit of practice and with spiders being pretty much everywhere I managed to get a lot of practice in when I was bored and it beat playing some dumb little meaningless games on my phone and so I got pretty good at it as well improving all of the time and I managed to realise that my device blocked thoughts coming in or interacting with my mind but it didn't block my own thoughts going out and interacting with others but I don't think I am about to use this anytime soon around a telepath as my thoughts going out through the barrier might just be an invitation to them so I will be extra careful, looking through the eyes of the spider I watch as it walks between very small tight holes and gaps in the walls and eventually it comes through a small gap in the corner of a very clean room and I get an eyeful of a proper lab and after a cursory glance I see that the mad professor is not here at the moment so I send the spider on a trek to the door looking for the security to it and fortunately for me it isn't an eye scanner or key card scanner or something and it is actually just a switch on the wall and so it can be easily managed to open.
Except when I get the spider to stand on the switch, I realise that this is going to be harder to do then I thought, a lot harder...
