Vanished In Thin Air

Amelia was standing in front of her father, who was fuming with rage.

"You never told me this." Amelia was angry. A silly misinformation leads her hard work down the drain.

"Do you think this matters now?" Amelia's father already had a cold sweat on his forehead.

If Alexander knew about it, his plan would be ruined. He had worked so hard to get his daughter Amelia to work under Alexander.

Amelia's father knew his daughter liked Alexander. But if he was able to have some benefits along the way, that was also welcomed.

Maybe Amelia's father got too greedy. He was sure Alexander trusted Amelia, thus he made use of this method, but who would have known..

Amelia's father cursed Evelyn in his mind. If it wasn't for her in-depth investigation, everything would have worked accordingly.

"It is all your mistake." Amelia was upset. She just wished to be able to be a part of the project in the future.

Alexander would be overseeing it personally. It was a great way to spend some quality time with him.

Due to this reason, Amelia had worked hard to find a suitable place. A place that would give the company profit, and there would be no distractions between her and Alexander.

Thus, when her father gave a perfect place, Amelia took it forward with little thought. She did her research, but who knew her father would hide things to this extent.

The land was not only abandoned due to financial problems but also due to active metals residues beneath the ground.

The place was beautiful now, but it was an area where chemical wastes were disposed of. Long-term residence would be harmful to one's health in the long run. On paper, it showed no such occurrence, but Amelia now knew it was her father who buried those evidence.

If the deal was really sealed, then it would cost them billions. But what made Alexander more irritated was the deal Amelia's father cut with Mr. Jefferson.

Amelia's father would get 25% of the commission to sell the land. They were not short of money, but Amelia did not understand why her father did that.

"Alexander will be there at the banquet today. Make sure to talk with him."

"Yes, father." Amelia nodded. Damage minimization was the only thing she could do now.

Layla walked toward the IL Group.

She did not dare to enter and stood at a corner near the trees.

The climate was peaceful and serene. The sun was setting, which painted the sky into a shade of pink and orange.

Layla checked the phone.

'6:15, Kyle would be coming out soon.'

Today Kyle and Layla decided to search for a place to move in together. Kyle wanted it to be handled by someone, but Layla rejected it. She wanted to enjoy the feeling of going house to house, searching for their perfect place to settle.

The idea was instantly rejected by Kyle, but Layla was determined. They decided to have met at the IL group and move from there.

Layla wanted to cheer Kyle, so she brought a rose along her way here. Kyle was not happy with his brother's arrangement but had no other choice. Layla did not know what Kyle did to get involved with Evelyn in the first place. She sighed.

As Layla turned around to face the entrance, she saw Evelyn walking out of the door.

Layla's eyes narrowed with irritation.

'Why today?'

Layla knew she would meet Evelyn someday, but she wished it was not today.

'Did Kyle work with her?'

'Evelyn does look beautiful.'

'Why can't I see Kyle yet.'

'Did something happen between them?'

Layla's mind was filled with different images. She knew it was irrational, but her insecurities always surfaced.

Evelyn was busy on her phone when she left the building. She did not know Layla was observing her from a distance. Evelyn's eyes were only focused on the car parked in front of her and the man standing beside it.

Alexander was looking at Evelyn, whose steps stalled.

Evelyn was ready to ditch their dinner at six with an excuse of going home early. But who would have guessed, when she walked through the receptionist, she would hear this,

"Ma'am, Mr. Knight is waiting for you outside."

A simple sentence gave Evelyn a heart attack.

'It's still early. What is he doing here?' So many questions and so little answer. Evelyn checked her phone when she stepped out to confirm if there were any messages, but there were none.

Now that Evelyn stood before Alexander, there was no place to hide, no place to disappear. She sighed and smiled at him.

"You are here." Evelyn tried her best to keep the disappointment away from her voice.

Alexander snickered. He knew if he was a minute late, his little kitten would have vanished in thin air. You should hit the iron when it is hot.

Alexander rubbed Evelyn's cheeks with his thumb, "We don't want you to fly away now. Do we?"

Evelyn stared at Alexander. There was a playfulness in his eyes that made Evelyn red. No one spoke until Alexander's eyes floated towards the figure leaving the company.

'Kyle Black'

Alexander's hand stiffened. 'What is he doing here again?'

Sensing something wrong with Alexander's expression, Evelyn followed his eyes to look behind her.

The time stopped.
