Chapter 4- Gail

Gail sat at her desk, her piles of homework around her. Mason and Ashley's homework, since they'd forced her to do it. She didn't mind, it gave her an extra chance to study, and to learn more and triple check her own homework facts and make sure she got them right. She pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose, her eyes focused as her hand slid along the paper, making the answers. She'd already learnt about college stuff, she knew the answers to all of this already, she'd read ahead. While most people would be playing games, Gail would be studying, working harder, trying to figure out all the answers.

"Gail! Come here!" A voice shouted from down the hall. Gail slid back from her desk, her chair's wheels bumping on the hardwood floor. Her sister, Kenzy, was calling. Gail got up, walking across the hard floor and to her sisters bedroom. She was sitting in her bed, painting her toenails a bright pink.

"Heyyy," Kenzy said, "I need you to do my homework for me."

Gail pushed up her glasses again. "I have two other people to do already," She said in her nasally voice. "I can't do yours too."

"Oh c'mon!" Kenzy said, in her high-pitched fake voice when she was trying to get Gail to do something for her. "It's not that much! Besides, you know it all already, it's not even work for you!"

"Why can't you do it?"

"Duh, im painting my nails," She held up the bottle of pink polish like it would be obvious to her. "Plus, my boyfriend is taking me out to a party tonight, so I need to get ready."

Gail frowned. "Don't you think homework is more important than parties? At parties you don't learn anything, you just get drunk and then come home! You can't learn at a party, you can't study at a party, all you do is… I don't know, but it's not studying or working." She said, tilting her face up, and her voice, (Which she was told on and on by Kenzzy was nassly and annoying) echoing.

Kenzy laughed. "You haven't been to a party, Gail. Look, do this homework, and I promise I'll never ask you again!"

Gail sighed. "Fine, but, according to my studies, you won't get into college if you keep dumping all your work on top of me." She picked up the worksheets in Kenzy's room, and walked out again. She arrived back at her desk, and set the stapled packets of paper down. She picked her pencil back up, darting through the answers, hardly having to think.

A few hours later, as Gail was reviewing some flashcards, Kenzy came out of her room, dressed in a bright pink flowing dress. She had her nails painted to match, alongside a tiara on her head. She looked like a pink princess, one that was failing her classes.

Gail looked at her for a moment. "You know, according to my studies, that dress is going to give you so much unwanted attention. Due to the fact you're simply going out to a party with some boy, means you should dress properly, not like some girl going to-"

"Oh shut up, Gail. You don't know anything about having a boyfriend, or going out to parties." Kenzy's voice was cold. "I don't need my annoying little sister judging me, got it?" Without another word, Kenzy opened the front door.

"You're failing your classes, you really should study!" She shouted, as Kenzy slammed the door shut behind her. Gail looked back at the completed homeworks. She realized she was exhausted. Gail stacked the work into neat piles, before getting up from her chair once more, towards her room.

It was simple, unlike everyone elses' with lights and fancy decor. She had a dresser, and a bed. The walls were painted a white, a simple color that made it easy to study. A deck of flashcards sat in the corner of her dresser, alongside a small globe, a map, a few worksheets from history class that didn't need to be turned in until next week, and a small container of pens. Gail changed into her Pj's, brushed her teeth, twice, like her studies said would increase the strength of her teeth. She got into her bed at exactly Nine' o clock, like she needed to. She pulled the covers over her head, and quickly drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, Gail was the last awake. She woke twelve hours after she slept, so, as her studies showed, the brain could get at least eight hours of rest. But, the more it got would be better. Her sister was back home, dressed in a plain white T-shirt and blue jean shorts. She had a bowl of cereal, and glancing towards it, Gail could see it was one of those that had marshmallows.

"You know, that is not a healthy breakfast choice." Gail commented. "As my studies have shown, breakfast is one of the most important times to feed your body something good, so it can feel good throughout the day. If you eat garbage like marshmallows, you'll be tired and sluggish. However if you eat something that's actually good for you, you will feel amazing during the entire day."

"Then why are you so annoying the entire day? Any way to fix that?" Kenzy muttered. Their mother walked over, rubbing her eyes. "Kenzy, that's no way to talk to your sister."

"Well, then she should stop being such an annoying know it all, and get something for her damn nasally voice."

"Language!" Gale shouted, as Kenzy grabbed her backpack, and slipped on her shoes. With a smug face, Kenzy glanced over. "I don't need to watch what I say." She hissed, before walking back out the door.

Gale sighed, turning to her mother. "She should have dressed better, my studies show that the better you dress, the more likelihood of you finding a happy time, and friends."

Gale's mother smiled and nodded. "Im sure she would have changed if you had a chance to tell her. Now go get ready, the school bus leaves soon." Gale sighed and nodded, heading back to her room. She brushed her hair, changed clothes, and was out the door waiting at the bus stop, for her weekend classes. No one understood why she went to them, it only helped her be more intelligent, some homosapiens need that at our school. She thought, shaking her head. She smiled as the bus came to the a stop in front of her, climbing on she said her "Hellos" to everyone, not receiving much back, besides cold shoulders, They must've not gotten a full twelve hours of sleep, what a shame, Gail thought, looking out the bus window, before she realised she slouched, she quickly corrected her posture, not wanted to hurt her back, and spinal cord. The bus pulled to a stop outside their school, she was the first one out, obviously, excited to start another learning class. She walked to her class room, making sure her shoes were tied, and her back straight, keeping her eyes forward, she walked into class, which the teacher, Mr. D, smiled at her, and gestured for Gail to take a seat. She went straight to it, and smiled at the stack of worksheet on her desk, and began working, again, keeping her back straight and her neck at the perfect angle, she began working.

Gale finished her work, in approximately fifteen minutes and thirty four seconds, but she couldn't help but snort when Ashley, the rich girl Ashley, walked in.

"Got something to say, Glasses?" Gail looked her dead in the eye, smiled, and replied with, "Well, Ashley, according to everyone in here, they either have good grades, and want extra credit, or they're failing and need to fix their grade to pass, but since your father is principal of this school," She tapped her desk, thinking, "You probably wouldn't even need to be in school, since you father buys you everything, hm? Including your serotonin, so, do you have anything to say?" Ashley's mouth dropped, as the class went silent, as Ashley went over, slamming her hands down on Gail's desk, "C'mon Glasses, being rude does not mean I nor my daddy can let it be, c'mon." The class eyes we're on, Gail.

Gail pushed up her glasses, and was about to open her mouth, when "Sit down Ms. Cortez." Ashley turned, snapping around facing the teacher, "What? What do you mean sit down?" The teacher looked at her, then pointed to a desk, "Sit." Ashley opened her mouth to argue, "Now your father wouldn't be very happy with you arguing with a teacher, would he?" Her head dropped, walking over to a desk, and getting to work.

"Mother, do you think I'll be able to go on this trip.. Thing?" Gail asked, looking up from her book. Her mother lifted her eyes from her tea, and smiled softly, "Of course, honey. Just be safe." Gail felt a surge of serotonin. She got out of her chair, grabbed her book, and was just about to go to her room, when she saw that her sister's door was open. She knew she shouldn't go in, but her curiosity got the best of her. Entering her sisters room, she looked around at the pink walls, the posters littered all over them, the trash covering the shag rug, and her canopy bed, she couldn't help it, she began cleaning up, picking up all the trash, everything, organizing them, making sure it looked to, her expectations. That's when she found a pack of beers stashed under her bed. She sighed, picking it up, and carrying it out of the room to her mother.

"Where did this come from, you know we don't allow you girls to have alcohol." Her mother would say, her voice hardening. Gail shook her head, and simply pointed to her sister's room, making her mom sigh`, "C'mon sit down, we're waiting for your sister to come home."

"Moooommm, I'm home" Her sister, Kenzy would say loudly, walking in, her backpack hanging low. She stopped for a moment, seeing her mother and sister, sitting there with a pack of beer, "What's going on?" Her mother cleared her throat,

"Your sister found this in your room, care to explain?" She would ask, crossing her arms. Her sister's eyes landed onto Gail, "The hell. Why were you in my room!" She would yell, crossing her arms.

"Well, I saw your door open, and it's usually never open, and my studies show, you should always use curiosity to the most of its power." Gail stated, Smiling lightly, causing Kenzy to groan, "Next time stay the fuck out of my room" Kenzy snapped, walking away.

"Language!" Gail shouted, her mom placed a hand on her shoulder, "We will talk about this later, Kenzy." Her mom stated.

Gail rested her head on her arms, excited for the camping trip, she glanced up at the clock, it stating 8:00, she rolled her chair back, letting it echo throughout the empty house, She got up, rolling the chair back in its place, and went to her room, she lifted a empty gym bag, and began packing. Flashlight, skewers, first aid kits, a sleeping bag, a tent, bug spray, itch cream, her meds, ten water bottles, her journal, water purifiers, hotdogs, and a spear, because you never know.

Before she knew it, it was 9:00, she changed, brushed her teeth twice, brushed her hair, pulling it back, laying down on her bed. She couldn't fall asleep, thinking about how fun the camping trip will be.

But she was so wrong, oh so wrong.
