Chris Wilson was planning to expand Revolution by not restricting it in the IT industry, he wanted to acquire a small company in the entertainment industry and use Revolution's name to boost it. Given that his brother was very famous, he already had many connections with people there. He was planning to acquire RG Entertainment. Because of his big ambitions, my work increased, Lily gave me her 'private' number so that I could ask her when I'm in doubt about how to deal with Mr Wilson's tantrums. I got the feeling that I might be using this number a lot. The next day, Adam, the youngest manager in Revolution, came to my office hurriedly. "Luna, are you free this evening?"
"No, I'm expensive." I gave a very cheesy look. However, Adam did not smile, he looked like he was waiting for me to stop. "No? Ok, I'm done. Um, ya. What happened?" I asked. I never had a conversation with him before, so I was curious. I was not looking for any relationships right now. So, if he was planning to ask me out, I would say no definitely. "Well, it's no surprise that we were planning a farewell party for Lily. But we wanted it to be a surprise party."
I raised my eyebrows and wondered if he was stupid, Lily already knew that there was a party today. What surprise factor is he going to introduce. "Doesn't Lily already know that we're holding a party?"
"*cough* *cough* Yes, she knows, but she doesn't know where. For all she knows, it's in the office." He clarified. He must have known that I looked at him like an idiot. But he was a manager at such a young age; He was not an idiot.
"Then, where is the party going to be?"
"At Royal Coronet. Chris chipped in a lot so we have a bigger budget." He replied. I was happy for Lily, but what troubled me was that Adam and Lily called him Chris and he did not even allow me to talk informally -_-
"Ok, so where do you need my help?" I asked because I did not know where I would fit into this whole plan.
"You should bring her to the restaurant without her suspecting anything." He asked me.
"You know she ain't dumb. I'm pretty much sure she could figure it out." I argued. He gave a very cute pleading look, so I agreed. I was wondering how to bring Lily to that hotel. I was pretty much sure that she could figure it out, but I gave my word to Adam. Then suddenly I thought, why not implicate my boss into this? Of course he would agree. If he did not, I would guilt trip him into it.
I went up to his office and without even knocking I entered, it seemed that I became 'very' comfortable with the office environment. "Mr Wilson, I need your help."
"You're becoming very brazen, Ms Brown. And if I'm not wrong, you should be the one helping me."
"Ha ha." I laughed nervously, I then realized how boldly I behaved. "Well, Mr Wilson, Adam informed me about the surprise party for Lily and I was given the responsibility to bring her to the hotel without her suspecting anything."
"So, you need my help since you cannot manage without your own." He smirked. It may be the first time since I joined that I asked for his help so formally, though honestly I did not want to. "Well, ya. I need your help, Mr Wilson."
He leaned back into his chair, with that playful smirk still on his face. He leaned his face against his hand and looked at me as if he won this round. I frowned at him, thinking that this was not worth it, so I turned to leave. "What happened, Ms Brown? Do not need my help?"
I smiled at him because I did not want to accept it. So kept on smiling, not wanting to lose completely this round. I knew that Lily would not believe me, so I needed his help. He could probably say that there was a last-minute business meeting where Lily's expertise is needed. Seeing that I would not ask him, he chuckled softly.
"Fine, but you must take up a few extra hours for this without getting paid for over-time."
"Hey! That's not fair!" I almost shouted. He was cutting my salary because of the 3 dresses he bought for me and now I won't get paid for over-time. You exploitative capitalist! I cursed him a thousand times in my heart. "Fine." I grumbled with dissatisfaction. He laughed at me again. Fine! He won this round, but I will get him next time.
"Did you finalise on the houses?" He asked in a much softer tone, as if he actually cared about his employee's well being.
"Yup, I'll move in next month. Thanks, Mr Wilson. I know it's you." I added in the end. I did not know why he gave up the credit. He froze for a moment and then smiled. His ears were becoming visibly pink. I chuckled at him without him knowing. No wonder he was single. He did not know how to talk to girls. Cute, I thought.
Later that day, "Lily, in my office now!" Chris said in a very serious tone. My eyes fluttered open. I was catching a little nap since I got a break, my good night's has been disturbed by constant calls by Luke, and the weirdest part was when I picked up the call for the first time I could hear Bob's creepy voice, "Pretty lady… How are you?" I immediately cut the call. I got more calls from that number last night. I immediately blocked the number. I could not sleep that night. I was pretty sure that Bob does not have my number. I warned Luke to not give my number to anyone, especially Bob. I wondered if someone was trying to trace me, say gut feeling or intuition, it just did not seem right. The rest of my night went on with me thinking about what I had done. You know, running away from home, being Chris' secretary, asking Prunella for help out of all the people I knew.
In the afternoon, after my conversation with Adam and Chris, Lily was surprised seeing my eye-bags and commented that I looked like a panda. Adam who happened to overhear it chuckled. While wiping away his 'tears of joy' he commented, "You surprised her more than our surprise party ever could." I smiled at his remark mockingly and slammed the file in my hand against the back of his head and walked away. It did not hurt too hard. It was a very 'small' file. (insert evil laughter). He did not mind since we got along as friends.
Anyway, Lily rushed into his office because it has been a long time since he talked in such a serious tone. "Mr Wilson?".
"Good, Get ready we have a meeting at Royal Coronet with an important figure and I want you there with me since Ms Brown is not ready for this big an event yet. Frankly, she is dumb and has no skills." He said to Lily. Me, who was listening (more like eavesdropping) on the phone yelled, "Hey! I'm not dumb! I'm coming too Mr Wilson!"
"Ms Brown, I suppose you could tag along, but not a word more." He said. He was not surprised that I was hearing his words.
"But, is this that urgent? You know that today-" Lily was interrupted by Chris.
"Not now, Lily. This is a very important matter. Get going now."
"Yes, Sir." A very disappointed Lily replied with her head down. She immediately left because she did not want to linger here any further. "Well, that went well." I said, amused by how well Chris could act. I guess acting was in their genes.
"Ms Brown…." He gave me a look which I could clearly see from across the window. "Hi!" I waved at him with a smile. I still don't know why I am so awkward. Anyway, I lent Lily one of my dresses so that she would not be awkward at the surprise party. I wore the red one while she wore the white one. "Um, Luna… Is this appropriate for the meeting?"
"Ya, of course. It's at a really fancy restaurant." I said, trying to cover up. Lily did not seem convinced, but she listened to me, anyway.
Chris appointed a formal driver this time, so Lily sat in the front seat while I was forced to sit in the back seat along with him. I graciously offered to sit in the front seat, but Lily refused since she enjoys sitting in the front seat. Chris frowned because he understood that I did not want to sit with him. "I'm not a monster, Ms Brown." He scoffed. No, you are just a devil, I thought. I could not say that out loud, obviously. I simply laughed my awkwardness away. The very diligent Lily prepared a few documents related to the 'important figure'. Chris simply nodded while Lily was inputting a lot of information into our brains. I was pretty sure that he was not listening at all. After reaching Royal Coronet, I led them into the party hall where the party is being hosted. Everyone shouted "surprise" the moment Lily stepped in. The expression on Lily's face was priceless, Adam captured the moment on his phone. Those who were close friends with Lily came in for a hug. As an hour slowly passed, Adam came to me and asked me for a dance. I smiled and took his hand and made the way to the dance floor. As we danced hand in hand, I suddenly remembered, 'Mr Wilson!'
I totally forgot his presence, and so did many people. The focus was on Lily, so poor Chris got pushed to a side. I looked around for him and found him sitting near the dessert table gobbling down ice-cream with a gloomy face. I had an urge to laugh at that moment, but I held it in. He was probably expecting credit for chipping in by a lot. Since Chris had always been cold and aloof from the 'common folks' that is his employees, no one dared to take the initiative of starting a conversation with him. Poor guy looked so sad. Adam, who noticed me ignoring him, said, "Hello,…. Earth to Luna."
He successfully caught my attention. "Sorry, I was just distracted."
"You know people usually like my company… By saying this you hurt my feelings." He put on a fake sad expression.
I laughed and said, "I'll make it up to you later, but now I have to go."
"How are you planning on doing that?" He asked with a nice smile. He looked like he was scheming something.
"I don't kn-" he cut me off by saying "How about dinner tomorrow?" He gave a cheeky smile. I raised an eyebrow at him. "Are you asking me out?"
"No, this is the way to make up for today." He said. I smirked at him since the way he flirted was smooth. "Sure, dinner it is."
