Chapter 1

I can't stop staring at the ceiling as I lay here in my bed, it's such a really tiring day and we just finished performing at the nearest pub for one of our gigs. School this days are so stressful, we've got a lot of projects to do. I still have a gig scheduled for tomorrow while I need to work with one of my classmates for our Biology project which was assigned to us last week. Classes are just starting and here I am thinking about school stuff already, I swear I think I'm gonna go mad! I thought to myself.

I checked my phone as it blinked, I got a few messages from my bandmates.

Seth : Hey bro! We got practice tomorrow afternoon (3 pm-5 pm).

Dylan : Wassup bro, did you already find the book you borrowed from me? I need it tomorrow!

Felix : I sent you the list of songs we'll be performing tomorrow, have you checked it out already?

"What a busy life!", I said and then I heard a knock outside my door, I sat down. It's already past midnight, who could that be. And then I thought to myself, there's no way I'm going to open that door. I have heard some tales about ghosts knocking on your door late at night, so I just remained still in my bed trying to observe and as silence followed I decided to lay in my bed til I fell asleep.

Waking up the following morning, I realized I was almost late for my morning class, it's already 6:30 am. I headed out to my bathroom, took a bath and got ready. I then checked my fridge for some milk and a slice of bread and then I headed out, it's almost 7 am. Classes start at 7:30 am, I rushed to the nearby bus stop that'll drop me off to our university. I still need to take a few minutes walking through the campus, when someone bumped my shoulder.

"Hey Lev, bro! I need my book ASAP, my biology class starts at 9:30 am later." It was Dylan, my bandmate. "Here you go bro", I said as I gave his biology book back, it has been sitting at my desk for a few weeks since I last borrowed it when we were about to graduate from high school. He then gave me a fistbump before he left.

As I was walking towards the classroom I heard a voice from the top of the stairs, "I already told you to stay away from me!", it was a voice of a girl. I didn't bother looking at whoever it is, I checked my watch and it's already 7:20 am, I walked faster since our classroom is located in the next building.

The bell rang for the first class and luckily I am already seated in my chair before the professor entered the classroom. I wasn't really paying attention about whatever he said when I heard him say my name. "Mr. Aiken! I said team up with Ms. Kersey later for the activity, are you even listening?" Our professor asked me and I just nodded my head. The professor reminded us that our partners for the activity today will be the one's we'd be teamed up with for the rest of our subject.

I was thinking about our gig later, we have a practice at 3 pm. I was deep in my thoughts that I wasn't able to pay attention when the professor had given the final instructions for the activity so I decided to move to the seat next to this girl whom I am going to work with and ask her about the project and today's activity.

"Hey there, what was your name again?" I asked. She was wearing some black rimmed glasses and looked really really shy, the design of her t-shirt1 was from a cartoon I used to watch when I was younger. It seems like she didn't hear me so I decided to ask her again, "Um, what's your name?" She finally looked up at me and said "I'm Nayeli, you can call me Nayi."

"Since we are teamed up for today's activity, would you mind if I ask that we work on the project later next week? I still have some errands to do later after class so I can't help you. Let's say maybe we can schedule it for Saturday afternoon?" She looked at me without even blinking, I had to repeat my question again since I think she was lost in her own train of thoughts.

She finally replied, "Yes, that's fine with me, where should we meet? And also can we start at about 1 pm? I still need to organize some things in my apartment since I just moved last week."

"We can meet at the local cafe near the park at the Emerald Bus Stop at 1pm." I then asked her about our activity and we started to work on it. It was about animal cells and she explained that we needed to make a diagram within 30 minutes which we needed to pass to our professor. After the activity was done, I reminded her again about the time and place where we would meet to make our project.

I got out of the classroom and headed to my Literature class, I saw one of my bandmates Felix texting on his phone, I asked him about the list of songs we'll be performing later on because I wasn't able to receive it last night. "I forgot to text you back last night bro, I wasn't able to receive the list of songs you were talking about, I immediately fell asleep." He gave me a piece of paper, 10 songs were listed on it. After reading them, I asked him to hurry up since we'll be late for the next class already. He's my classmate for the next two subjects which are English Literature and Sociology. The last subject before lunch would be College Algebra and after that we'll head on to the cafeteria to talk with our two other bandmates Dylan and Seth about our gig later on.

We made it to the next class without getting late, while we were talking about the songs well be performing later, our professor arrived and discussed about the history of English Literature. After the discussion she gave a very short quiz for us to answer til the end of the subject period.
