A Brand New Day

The knock on her door by her mother, woke her up from her sleep. Was it all a dream, she thought to herself as she opened her eyes?

"I am up, Melinda answered to her mom who left when she heard her daughter, and headed downstairs."

Melinda moved her pillow revealing the green gem below it. It wasn't a dream, she assured herself.

She prepared herself for school, put the gem in her pocket and headed downstairs for breakfast. Debbie looked at her daughter and smiled, you seem to have slept well she asked? She could see how vibrant, her daughter was this morning.

"Did you dream about that boy, she cooed?"

No, no. Melinda responded shyly. It's just a brand new day and I am looking forward to it.

I like the new attitude, her mother stated. Have fun today she continued. Now I must make breakfast for your father.

Melinda left and headed in the direction of her friend to get his assistance on securing the gem. While heading that way, she noticed that the ice - cream store was opening and decided to stop for her favorite ice - cream.

'Hunka - Hulking Rock Friday with strawberry sprinkles!'

Her friend lived in a street just before the school so she headed in the direction of the school while eating her ice- cream. When she had eaten it, she recalled it, again and again using the magic from the gem stone.

"I am getting the hang of this, she said jokingly as she was approaching the area where a comic book store was located, on the opposite side of the road. It was there that she saw her admirer or some might say 'her number one fan.'

Pretending that she had not seen him or his friend, she continued onward, eating her ice - cream until a loud explosion of the oncoming truck startled her. The back tire had blown out and the truck was making a sharp right turn. Melinda was unable to see what the truck was turning into.

Then she felt a wave of 'something' pass through her as it moved outwards. Everything had suddenly stopped moving after that.

'The birds, the daily man-made sounds made no noise.'

Bitterly she wondered if the same thing that had happened to the earth before was happening again. As she looked around, she notice that Luke was still moving and running along the pavement on the opposite side of the road. She could still move as well, as she licked her ice - cream.

Their eyes met as she watched him, make his dash. Maybe he was the one responsible for what was taking place and if so, he may want to know why she could still look in his direction.

Should she stay and answer his questions, she thought to herself. This would mean that they would talk for the very first time....

Yes... I will stay and answer his questions, she said to herself...

I will.....

Nope was the word that screamed the loudest in her mind and her body followed as she moved from her position and hustled around the corner to her friend's home who lived in a street before the school. She felt bad running away however another time would present itself, she assured as she walked up the steps to her friends house, nicknamed... 'The Jewelry Maker!'
