Better Get Used to It

Tono's fingers latched onto the keyboard. The keyboard keys were like the insects to his finger's venus flytrap. He was finishing up the last assignment he had. It was around 6 in the morning,

The door opened and Tono could see his colleague went in. The colleague was Kevin, whose hair was wavier that actual waves, and Tono swore cologne went into his nostrils by the time Kevin walked into the room and approached him by the desk.

"Ton." Kevin started. "You're here early as usual. You got a minute?"

"I do. I'm not sure if he does."

Kevin looked around Tono's desk. "I don't see anybody."

A gecko stretched out of Tono's shirt pocket. The gecko was coated with a coat of yellow, and its eyes were as big as cup saucers. It eyed Kevin before sticking its tongue out.

Kevin screamed in surpised and slightly jumped backwards. "What is that thing!?"

"A gecko."

"I'm no animal expert but a gecko doesn't look like that! Not to mention animal tongues' aren't supposed to stretch" Kevin said, appalled. "And that thing is okay with you? How did this happen?"

Tono stood up from his seat. His face was straight and very "full of emotion"

"This gecko, or should I say creature, wasn't like this at first." Tono started in a monotonous tone. "In simple language, this gecko wasn't a gecko at first. A few days ago, particularly on a warm evening, I was busy sipping some tea on my porch. The wind breezed through my hair as my eyes were shot up looking at the night sky, flourished with hundred, thousands or even millions of stars. A particular stream of light passed by the stars. It was yellow, like a lemon, and the stream wasn't going straight: it was all over the place. Dashing left and right as if it didn't have a sense of direction, the stream got bigger in my view. It was at that moment I realized it was heading toward me." Tono clapped his hands hard. "Boom! In the face is where I got hit. Of course by the time I woke up I noticed a very small gecko hiding behind a rock a few inches away from me. It was scared, trembling in fear. I know this was the stream of light because it dashed to another rock and had that same pattern. I have yet to know where this stream got a gecko form but even I knew it would be right to attack something I don't know. So, I took in the gecko for the night, and well, we've become friends since then."

Kevin looked at his co-worker in large disbelief.

"It's all about acceptance Kevin. The gecko even apologized to me in the form of making me breakfast in the morning one day." Tono continued. "He also took some rocks and spelt I'M SORRY."

Kevin's face was bewildered, and his eyes were still focused on the gecko who was out of Tono's shirt pocket, and was now looking outside. One of the gecko's tiny legs waved and smiled. Kevin turned to see another co-worker, Tina, went in.

"TIna!" Kevin shouted. "Tono's got some weird-"

"The gecko." Tina said. "I know. I'm used to it."

"What?"

"Not gonna lie that gecko does look weird but he's been a helpful hand around here. Kept an eye on my papers when I was out getting some lunch. Kept them safe as well. Once the gecko reminded me about an assignment I had with Tono."

Kevin's jaw dropped to the ground.

Tina rolled her eyes. "Just get used to it Kevin. If you can have weird friends I can't see why Tono can't."

"My friends aren't that weird." Kevin frowned and folded his arms.
