The Ladder

Two workers were standing outside in the scorching heat. Their sweat falling down from their faces like miniscule waterfalls.

One of them, a fat man, spoke up to his colleague on the ladder. "Hey! When we gonna have lunch? It's practically that time already!"

"I need to paint this part of the roof!" said the second worker, a thin man. "Just wait."

"I'm hungry!" The Fat man exclaimed. "And I'm burning here."

"Be patient." The thin man countered. "Patience is golden."

The Fat Man felt like he was in a furnace. He felt dehydrated even after he chugged a gallon full of water before coming here. Most of the bottles of water he drank were empty, and the nearest mini market to get some water was quite the distance.

"Hey." the Fat Man spoke as cars started to pass by him. "How much have you-" He stopped as he noticed the ladder was slightly longer going up passing the roof of the building. "Hey where are you!?" he exclaimed, putting his feet on the first step of the ladder. "Not funny if you're trying to hide from me."

The thin man wasn't on the roof.

"The hell?" The Fat Man said as he noticed the ladder's edge starting to climb. It was starting to penetrate a nearby cloud. He frowned. Please don't tell me he's up there.

His large sweaty hands grabbed the handles of the ladder, and his equally large legs carefully went on each step. He could feel the breeze of fresh air at this point, hitting him in the face and his body.

What happened to this ladder? He thought as he still kept on climbing and the ladder extending upwards. He passed by clouds, birds at one point.

He stopped midway when a toaster with wings flew by him.

His pace stopped at a larger cloud. Even with his boots on, he could feel the the wind under his feet, slipping by. His eyes looked down for a second and then went right back up instantly. The altitude was staggering, but not in a good way.

"If a plane passes by I'm screwed." The Fat Man thought as his hand touched the cloud. "What the?" His finger touched it again. "Why is it hard? Wait." He brought himself onto the cloud. Shaking slightly, he brought himself to his feet, standing straight up.

He was standing on a cloud!

The Fat Man's face turned into a gigantic frown as he looked left and right, shaking his head.

"Hey!" a voice called out as the Fat Man saw a figure walking towards him. The Fat Man scratched his eyes, not believing what he was seeing.

"I see you went up here as well!" The thin man, his co-worker said. The thin man was holding a glass filled with some blue liquid and ice. "Oh, speaking of which. I found a restaurant where we can chill."

"But how-" The fat man started.

"I'll explain later. RIght now we need to get you filled up. You must be thirsty or even hungry by now!"

The Fat Man shrugged. At least he was gonna get lunch like he wanted to originally.
