The Struggle

WRITTEN BY PATIENT #63

I've faced a ton of jerks in my lifetime. But nothing like this.

Rewind to half an hour ago, where one of the staff members, a big guy, stopped by my room to light a cigarette during his shift. He seemed famished and tired at the same time. I can't really blame him. This place is full of morons and crazies afterall, or just full of people who unfortunately have to face things they didn't want to face, depends on how you look at all of us here really.

The staff member was carrying a cart full of things, and among those things were fresh and clean bedsheets. I can only assume that somewhere in this hospital, that there were beds that needed to change sheets, or somebody wet themselves big time.

"Oi" I called out to the staff member outside my room, opening the slidy bit to see him. I needed a change of sheets myself, considering it's all wrinkled. "Mind if I get a sheet? I'd be doing you a favor by changing myself."

He simply closed the slidy bit, and opened my door, giving me a roll of bedsheets.

"Thanks." I said as he gave him a thumbs up. I can almost guarantee he was relieved that a patient was willing to change his own bedsheets, instead of letting his own madness get the best of him.

As I began to cover my bed with the new sheets however, I noticed it wouldn't stick. Kinda like a magnet when its rejecting another. I pushed the sheet onto the bed, then I felt a force hitting me in the face.

I tumbled onto the floor, and saw my bed rising upward. It's two edges on the top frowned. "You could have told me first!" a voice emerged from the bed, sounding like a lady.

"Yeah, sorry, put take this on!" I said as I tackled the bed with the sheet. I fumbled upon getting the sheet into place. During this time, the bed started to yelp as if it was being attacked.

Okay in a sense it does seem like I'm attacking the bed but I gotta get these sheets on, you really want to sleep on a bed without soft fabric just making contact with your skin as you sleep away?

"GET ON" I exclaimed as I stuck each of the edges of the sheet onto the bed, Finally it was on, and I could get on it, folding my arms behind my head.

"Next time, let me know when you're gonna change sheets!" the bed exclaimed.

"Yeah, yeah." I only replied. It was a struggle getting the sheets on, but it was worth it in the end.
