Just as she was about to speak, she wiped the drool with her sleeve when she heard Raaji's cry of horror.
She paused in confusion and saw that the young man was staring at her in horror and pointing at her stammering in incoherent words. Confused, she looked down to her sleeve and her eyes widen in surprise. The white sleeves under her black coat was stained red!
Blood...
It was then that she felt the pain in her chest as she frowned and immediately went down and started looking into her soul.
After so many imprints, her soul has began rooting out connections to her surroundings. From the dorm leader of Heartslabyul to the dorm leader of Octavinelle, she had stretched a long branch and connected with all of them creating a place for her to reach out to. Her soul seemed pure to the eyes but black speckles glittered around it. These were the demonic energy inside her. When she first discovered this when she first started cultivating, it was for this reason that her initial progress in her cultivation had been so slow. Without another cultivator or a knowledgeable doctor, she had to unblock many meridians in her body clogged by these demonic energy followed by the impurities in her body caused by poison.
When she initially began her cultivation journey, she had just turned seven when she solved the cure to her poison. However, that was only the beginning of her journey. She still had to reign in her demonic energy and reform her shattered soul. It was due to this shattered soul that she was unable to feel the energy around her and even occasionally lost her senses from time to time before she even began cultivating. It didn't matter if she unable to taste as taste wasn't as important when she needed to just consume food. However, unable to hear and see her surroundings were an occasional problem and being unable to feel or smell interfered with her alchemy studies. There were very few times when she lost all of her senses and could only remain still in bed with her mother seeking out the fairies for help but to no avail.
Being unable to feel her warm hand or sense her presence nearby had often sent her poor mother into a panic. Both of her parents and the fairies assumed that she was near death's door on multiple occasions and, at times, they were not wrong.
When she finally created a cure and began reforming her soul, she was left in bed sitting for hours without food or water. She just tried her best to reform her soul enough for her to push back the probability of losing her senses and, on many of those days, she would injure herself from inside her body whenever she made a mistake. That was when she learned the frail nature of a soul and its strength. Those were also the days she made her mother worry over her constantly whenever she saw blood coming from her mouth and, on occasion, her nose. Her father, having not formed that parental bond he was not familiar with, was the only one who pulled her aside asking for an explanation.
As they were fairies and she had human blood in her, it was a natural reason for them to have that rift between them, but she had once been a fairy as well. So, she knew how to better speak with her father without offending him or the other fairies. Her father was a prideful fairy king and did not have fondness to associate with any humans the way her mother had with her. In fact, he was more strained from the humans than his wife. However, it is a fact that he also loves his wife more and often doted on her. As long as it pleased her, he wouldn't give it too much thought. The couple just have this bond of trust and love that many envied and he knew that they both place the fairies' well-being in their eyes.
Just from working with the soul had caused such a ruckus with the fairies, she had to speak with her father about this to help clarify the situation. It was quite a thin tight rope she had walked on during those days and the tight rope just won't turn into a bridge for her.
Looking at her soul, she saw that there was a connection between her and somewhere else. Seeing this, she was surprised and touched it. She was shocked to find that there was a swelling of negative energy trying to invade from the other side of the line with pain radiating from inside her with every touch on it. The situation was dire and she can easily assume where the energy was coming from. Carefully, she followed the connection from her side and stretched across air of spiritual energy while a familiar jingling sound could be heard on her. When she found the end of the connection, she frowned as she saw that there was a strange garnet-color outline of a cobra at the end struggling to fight off the incoming dark energy around this. Lotus quickly noticed the familiar aura radiating off of the snake. It was Jamil's soul!
Was this how the Dark Mirror sees everyone's soul? But, how could he tell which souls belong to which dorm? Then again, it would be better not to think too much into it. She can always ask him later.
She grimaced at the thought of the dark energy imprisoning the soul and quickly thought of a way to counterattack. The soul of a magician is much more powerful than that of a regular cultivator's soul. However, her soul has been around for more than a million years. No matter the state that it's currently in, it should still be stronger than a magicians to some degree!
Acting fast, she painfully and carefully pulled out a red petal from her soul. Then, she sent it out to the cobra. The snake noticed a change in his surroundings and looked around in a daze as the petal multiplied and drifted into the darkness of the energy cutting it apart and setting it ablaze. As if bewildered by the sudden interference, the energy reeled back in surprise. It had never been attacked for a very long time and, now, there was suddenly something that can push it back!
Lotus didn't know what the dark energy was doing, but she didn't want it to have the chance to act now. Yet, the spiritual energy was so strong that she couldn't push it back down either. Knowing the difficulty of the situation, the only thing that she can do is push the energy back. With the blood red petals, a long whip of energy appeared and lashed out against the energy. The energy cowered in fear as it realized that the opposing spiritual energy was actually stronger than itself!
Seeing the dark energy retreat, the snake looked bewildered to see the foreboding dark energy it had so much difficulty surviving against finally shrink back enough for it to take a breather. However, it felt that it couldn't rest properly knowing that there was another intruder inside with it. In fact, it also knew that the body it resided in was also in danger as the dark energy continues to grab for its mana. It did not imagine that another soul would dare to invade its body and give it the aid it needed to help prevent its mana from being completely depleted!
Looking to the figure, it saw that it was indeed a girl in flowing red silk brocade. The flowing red and the unwavering gaze on the shadowy entity left a vibrant and strong impression as the girl stood there boldly under his gaze without sparing him a glance after seeing him once. Or rather, her entire attention was now focused solely the ugly black ink that still threatens to come at him again.
However, the mana radiating from the girl was not all that weak either. At most, they should be able to keep this dark blot at bay before help arrives. it wasn't too certain in what form the help it hoped for would come in, but it only knew that they were coming. Therefore, even in this weakened state, the least it could do is protect the body's mind till they do. Since the invasion of the blot, it had instinctively sent the mind of its body's mind and heart into a deep slumber to protect it from being tainted by the blot without understanding the reason properly. While it could take on a little bit of blot, the body's mind and heart can't suffer a tiny bit under it. Such a thing could later impact the body in the future. Something like this was all a soul of a magician could do in the case of an overblot. Once the soul perishes, the mind and heart falls with it.
