Chapter Three: “Confessions”

-"Lily, I have a confession to make." He said nervously.

-"what is it Chris?" I asked him.

As he takes another sip of his wine, he looks straight to my eyes and says:

-"I'm in love with you Lily, I've always been. Ever since Ally died I understood why my marriage wasn't working..." he said.

As I interrupt him I ask, "your marriage wasn't working? Why didn't you tell me this?" I asked with a short breath.

-"I didn't tell you because I knew you would get like this. Lily, my marriage wasn't working because I loved you, not Ally, you."

As I heard those words come out of his mouth I couldn't believe it, I felt bad, guilty that his marriage with Ally wasn't working because of me. In that moment I stood up and left the table to go outside and get some air.

As Christopher followed me out I said to him:

-"Chris, your marriage wasn't working because of me?" I asked him.

-"no Lily this isn't your fault, we were already having a divorce before she died, you didn't let me finish. Ally was having an affair with a friend of mine, a coworker. I was hurt and the only person I thought about in that moment was you, the thought of you calmed me, and in that moment I knew, you were the one, you always were."

As I started to feel better, but at the same time bad for Chris and what was happening to his marriage, I get closer to him and confess.

-"yes, the novel is about you. I love you too Chris, I always have. I'm sorry."

I ran away from him crying in the cold, snow falling on my hair, I couldn't stop thinking about what just happened at the restaurant with Chris, I couldn't stop thinking about the scenario, his face, the way he looked at me.

I got home and my dad was waiting for me in the living room, he was watching his annual Patriots game on the TV sport's channel. He saw me come in crying into the room, he stood up and hold me with his warm arms, he prepared me some cocoa and asked me what was wrong.

-"Christopher told me he loved me. And that he was getting a divorce with Ally because he cheated on him. I feel terrible dad." I said.

-"look Lily, sometimes marriage doesn't work out, your mother and I are so lucky, yes our marriage isn't perfect, but we love each other, and even though Christopher and Ally didn't work out, it doesn't mean you and him won't." He said to me with true honesty and warmth.

The next day I woke up tired from last night, I turn on my phone to check my emails and I had five missed calls from Christopher, I went outside and with a cup of coffee and called him. He didn't answer I guess he was just busy at work, I left him a voice mail asking him to meet me at our special place at 2pm.

As I drove to our special place, he was already there, standing in the snow, waiting for me. I got off the my car and walked towards him, he was smiling, with a grey suit and with my favorite flowers "lilies" he walked closer to me, he hugged me and told me to never let him go and I didn't.

He kissed me under the snowy tree, with ten inches of snow covering our feet. We couldn't stop kissing.
