As she walked at a steady pace towards her throne room she could hear the rapid steps following her.
"That's the thing I have now realised that death is needed, you see I didn't come here because I wanted to see your face..."
"Charming" she butted in annoyed.
Grabbing her shoulder he took her by surprise, never being in this situation before she was clueless on how to act.
In front of her was Nrven the notorious leader of the angels who was prideful and arrogant, yet here he was begging her to listen.
"Listen to me, please, the other angels don't know I came her to see you because they live by the code that they can protect every human. Just some how we couldn't save one." A stray tear fell from Nrven's eye.
Hurrying he wiped it with his hand and quickly composed himself. "Is there anywhere more private we can talk."
Realising what he wanted to say was a lot more serious than she initially though Death nodded her head earnestly.
Wasting no time Death lead him to a quiet room inside the castle that was decorated with two comfy couches and had a lovely coal burner.
There was no harsh lights just the distant glow that came from the fire place and the candles adoring the walls and chandelier.
The rug on the floor eased their stiff postures as, as soon as their feet made contact with it they melted into a relaxed state.
Now seated they sat in silence for a number of minutes until Nrven decided to break it.
"Us angels try to provide the best care we can, we perform many miracles daily from miraculous pregnancy's given to sterile women to saving children from deadly accidents. We honestly try to save everyone we can."
Heaving a sigh he lowered his gaze from hers for a moment before meeting it again once Death decided to speak.
"That's the thing, not everyone can be saved, that is the one thing you angels fail to see. Death is not pain! In death I wrap them inside my cool embrace and let their souls experience a serenity they have never experienced before. Death is the end of every pain!" Briefly losing control of herself Death reigned in her outburst.
Nodding his head in reluctant agreement Nrven cleared his throat. "I now realise that death can be the end of suffering. There is a man, I was supposed to protect him but I let him down. It was my duty that day to stop the car from hitting him, I knew it was going to happen and that I needed to be there at the exact time to save him... but I wasn't there."
Noticing he was hiding something from her she questioned him "where was the dutiful angel that you proclaim to be Nrven? how did you of all people neglect your role?"
Sensing her underlined spiteful tone he clenched his teeth in rage "That is none of your business wench!"
With a playful smile decorating her face she shook her head in a teasing manner "If you don't tell me where you was then you can leave now and forget any chance you have of redeeming the man you left for dead. It's so humourus that you left the man to me when you angels would rather let the humans suffer and wither away in misery than come to me."
Giggling loudly Death couldn't control herself, after laughing until she couldn't laugh anymore she wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes as she looked at Nrven's face. He was clearly grumpy at the fact she thought him amusing.
"You know what, as I sign of peace I will drop the question for now. Anyway, tell me what happened to this human and where is he currently?" Getting back to the task at hand she opened the mini bar to her left and began sorting them both glasses of fruity wine.
Correcting his posture Nrven spoke "His name is Dillion Jones, I've been his guardian since birth. He was walking home from work a couple of weeks ago and got hit by a car. I was supposed to be there to pull him back towards the curb but as I said earlier.. I was preoccupied."
His foot began to tap rapidly against the floor. She took note of his anxiousness.
"He ended up in the hospital, he cracked his skull open, had his leg crushed and broke a couple of ribs. His leg, couldn't be saved in the end so now he's mainly in a wheel chair."
Although Nrven explained the situation clearly she didn't understand why he wanted her to kill Dillon, although he had a lot of medical issues now he was still very much alive meaning she wasn't needed.
"Why do you need me to kill him? he is hurt yes but not near death." Questioning Nrven made him visibly tense, seeing this she raised a single eyebrow and sipped on her glass of wine.
"He is considering taking his own life, and I don't want him to go through anymore pain. I let him down so now I want him to have some of that peace in death you keep rambling on about." Interesting, so he thought of her as some escape goat to jump aboard.
Although his words were absolute rubbish and she would never take the man's life unless she needed to, she still wanted to go and see the man for herself.
She could easily use her third eye to see him but then that would ruin the thrill, she wanted to see how messed up this man was due to Nrven, then she could use it against Nrven.
Pretty wicked indeed.
Nodding her head in thought she had made up her mind "okay, okay.. I'll tell you what I'll do, tomorrow I will go and see the man for myself in person. Only then will I decided if his pain and suffering is as great as you claim it is. In no way am I agreeing to take his life however."
That wasn't the answer Nrven wanted but it was the only answer he was getting.
Once they had been said what they wanted to say there was no reason they needed to tolerate each other any longer.
Escorting him out Death gave him a final farewell.
"I will be in touch soon, make sure you do your job correctly this time, since I'm sure Wendy wouldn't want me to pay her a visit."
Bingo. Perspiration assaulted his brow, the angel was clearly frazzled with how she knew about his little rondevu with the young lady Wendy.
Faking shock she clutched her hands to her chest dramatically "ah you didn't think I wouldn notice did you? I've been watching for months as you run along with the human girl pretending to be a mortal like her. Be careful Nrven, don't let your feelings dictate your actions."
Clenching his fists and gritting his teeth he said "Don't worry about me, you just worry about them poor souls you keep tortured here" and with that he went soaring up into the earth.
Typical Nrven, always resorting back to his arrogance as a cover for his hurt ego.
