We burst into Neo's room, gasping for air.
The maid's cries for help could be heard from behind the door. Suddenly, it went silent. "I-It went quiet.." Lena stated. "It went quiet?..does that mean?.." Parish implied as she put her hands to her mouth in shock. "It means, we're next if you don't help me block up this door." I grabbed onto a dresser and turned to Ian. "Tsk." He looked at me. "Hurry up." I said.
Soon we had lifted the dresser in front of the door. "What a drag." Ian said. This won't hold for long..we need to get out of here fast.
"Mama..what was that?" Iva asked Lena, "I'm scared..can we go home?"
"It was nothing, dear..Just, hold on a bit more, okay?" Lena patted Iva on her head. "Was she...eating her?" Abel asked, holding onto Parish's sleeve for support. "We should call the police." Parish began.
"What even happened back there!? Was that some sort of joke?" Ian chimed. "Sure, that looks like a joke." Neo said, gazing out the window. "Huh?" Ian turned his head. Then he started walking towards Neo, "Did you say something, brat? If you have a problem with me then you should-!!" Ian's eyes widened as he looked out the window.
"Shit. You must be joking with me..." Ian said. "Dear, What is it?" Lena asked, coming up behind Ian. She suddenly shuddered as she saw outside. "W-what is all of that...are they..people?" She asked, shakily. "No good, nobody's picking up at the emergency line." Parish said, as she repeatedly dialled the police.
"What is this!? A zombie apocalypse!? This better be a joke." Ian exclaimed. "Keep telling yourself that and maybe everything will go back to normal." I said, "Dear? W-what should we do?" Parish asked. "We're leaving." I answered.
"Leaving? Shouldn't we wait for the rescue team? I'm sure they're on the way.." Parish gasped. "Rescuers aren't coming. And we don't have time to just sit around." I replied. I began rummaging through my backpack. "Papa? What is it in the bag?" Abel asked me.
"Supplies." I responded. "Supplies? Is it just me or does it seem that you are awfully prepared for this kind of situation? Scratch that, you actually seem awfully calm. Didn't you see what happened? People are killing each other!" Ian yelled at me. I ignored, "Listen to me! Are you deaf!?" Ian continued to yell. "Oh, sorry. Then what do you think should be my appropriate reaction? Screaming and whining like a little girl just like you?" I remarked.
Ian grabbed the collar of my shirt, "You little-!" "Dear, calm down! This is not the time for this!" Lena said, grabbing onto Ian's arm. "It's none of your business, Lena!" Ian responded, sharply as he hardly slapped Lena onto the ground. Lena whimpered, "I-I'm sorry..."
"M-mommy!" Iva ran to Lena. "Mommy? Are you okay?" She asked. "I'm okay, Iva. Your dad didn't mean to." Lena assured. I slapped Ian's hand off of me, "Ian stop acting so pathetic, that kind of attitude will get you killed someday."
"Sir, are you okay?" Li asked. "Yes, I'm fine." I answered. "And this bag is...?" Li raised her brow. "Just a bunch of small things I collected around the house." I replied. "Ah, I see." Li responded.
That guy is as easy to provoke as ever. Do I really have to let him tag along again this time?..
"W-what do we do, Papa?" Abel asked. "W-We can use our private helicopter on the rooftop? It's faster..and safer?" Parish proposed. "No. We're using the car in the garage." I answered. "Garage? Isn't the first floor swarming with those crazy people according to that maid?" Lena asked.
"She's right..the upper floors shouldn't be as bad.." Parish added. "The helicopter doesn't work." I zipped up my backpack. "And how do you know that?" Ian asked. "Well, smartass. It's my helicopter. It's been broken for some time." I responded, "I meant to have it fixed, but kept forgetting."
To be honest, I wouldn't have known the helicopter was broken if I hadn't tried to do the same thing in the past. It was a futile attempt..
I looked over at Iva. And a grave consequence we had to bear.
"Say, we're heading to the garage. How do you suppose we do that? Bashing our way through your crazy servants?" Ian asked. "I never said were using the staircase. The balcony's a better choice. It's only the second floor so it shouldn't be too hard." I said as I began tying up blankets. "A rope out of blankets? I didn't know Ark's CEO is familiar with these types of things.." Ian pointed out.
Become an undead's meal or an escape artist. It isn't too hard to choose.
"It still sounds a bit risky.. maybe we should.." Parish jolted as the door banged. "Honey, you should make up your mind soon." I said, slinging my backpack over my shoulder. "I-I'm sorry. I'm coming!" Parish said frantically.
I tied the rope onto a bar and threw it down. "Go first and check if it's clear." I turned to Ian. "I don't take orders from you. Besides, it's dangerous. Why do I have to go first?" He remarked. "Really!!?" Ian really pissed me off.
"Master Noah, let me go first." Li said. I can't believe this.. "Thanks Li." I said. "Neo, we need to go, What are you doing?" I turned to him. He carried the dog. After a few complaints from Parish, and me making her shut up by saying it's fine, Li climbed down and looked around. Then she gave a thumbs up and motioned for us to come down.
We all came down. After some walking, Li piped up, "Sir." She said. "What now? Why are we stopping?" Parish asked. Li pointed around the corner. "Yeah, I can hear, always so loud and obnoxious." I said. Parish gasped at the sight of the three undead eating a body. "W-what should we do? We can't get to the garage without getting past them." Lena said.
"We already came all the way here. There's no other choice." I grabbed onto my bag. "It shouldn't be hard to get past them while they're distracted. Worst comes to worst, take them down." I rustled through my bag as the others murmured. "W-what do you mean by take them down?" Parish asked. "I'm sorry if I wasn't clear the first time. I meant kill them." I answered.
"K-Kill?! That's a crime! We can't do that-" "Quiet." I hissed, covering Parish's mouth. "It seems they haven't noticed, sir." Li peaked around the corner. "Give me a freaking heart attack, wont you?.." I muttered. "Maybe we can talk some sense into them?" Lena proposed. "Ma'am they are devouring raw meat like it's nothing. And you witnessed what they did to Elise, I don't think talking is an option." Li stated.
"Y-you're right.. Nevermind that.."
After dealing with Ian's useless remarks, I gave a kitchen knife to Li. "If you can, get the head and run away after stabbing them." I said.
"Abel, go with Ian. Parish and Lena, look after Iva.." I began. I turned to Neo, "I can take care of myself." He said. "Then stay close to me." I grabbed his hand and began running towards the garage. "Stop doing whatever you want, old man." Neo said. "Then stop being so stubborn, brat." I replied.
A person with clairvoyance once told me. "The future I see is fate. And fate is absolute. You can change the means but you can't change the ends."
I rushed by an undead. "Hurry!" Suddenly, I heard a small yelp. I turned to see an undead reaching for Lena and Iva.
Suddenly, Li came up from behind and stabbed them in the head. Lena and Iva stood there in shock. "What are you standing there for?! Get in!" I said, hurrily.
They rushed past me and into the garage. "Li, you hurry too." I said. Li let go of the knife and began walking towards me. The undead turned on Li and growled. Quickly, Li kicked the undead into two other undead wand rushed towards the gate with me. We closed it.
We stood there for a second in silence. That was close. "Master Noah." Li began, "My apologies, I lost the knife." "What are you taking about? It's just a kitchen knife. We can find a better one. You did great. Thank you for saving Lena and Iva."
"Did great!? She just stabbed someone! She didn't even bat an eye! She works for us! This wouldn't be good if someone found out!" "Maybe you didn't hear me the first time, Parish. She saved Lena and Iva, would you be complaining had it been you?"
"But Noah-" Parish began. "Mom, they're monsters, it was still moving after being stabbed in the head. It was just self-defense." Abel chimed in.
Some chit chat later...
"You really think these police would?-" I cut myself off. Nevermind, It's too hard to try explaining. I'll let them see the situation for themselves. I got in the car. "Dear, why were you going to say about the police?" Parish asked. "It's nothing." I answered.
"You and Abel can sit in the back with Lena, Iva, and Ian. There should be enough space." I told Parish. "Young Master." Li said as she opened the car door. "There's not enough space. Are you telling me to sit on her lap? Forget about it." Neo said, irritated.
"Sorry, there really isn't enough seats for everyone. If you dislike my idea, you can switch places with Abel." I replied. Neo looked over to see Abel sitting on Parish's lap. "Tch. Disgusting." Neo said as he sat on Li's lap.
A very annoyed aura came from Neo as the garage door opened. "Pft!" I chuckled. "Shut up." Neo said, taking off his mask. "Sorry, I'm not laughing at you..maybe." I continued to chuckle. "Now that I remember, it's been a while since I've drove." I stated. "Then you better drive like your life depends on it." Neo said. "Have you always been this demanding?" I asked.
The car zoomed down the road. "I-it's worse than I thought.." Parish commented. "The nearest police station is on the other side of that crowd. If you still want to go there." I motioned towards a group of zombies. "I-I'm not sure anymore.. it doesn't seem like we can charge through that many of them.." Parish said.
"The entire city's in chaos, I doubt the police wold be able to babysit us anyways." I said. A few seconds after that statement, I hit the brakes abruptly. Everyone gasped and fell forwards bit. "W-what happened?" Parish asked. "A girl jumped in front of the car. I think she's asking for help." I answered
"Don't be absurd, we've no room in here." Ian said. "We don't even know her..or what she wants from us.." I added. "Are those her friends? They don't look k very friendly." Lena said, gesturing towards a group of people. After some pleading, the girl kicked the door and ran back to her group.
"Or she just wanted the car of course." I said. The Armageddon only just started and the everything's gone to hell. "The city's police must really be out of commission if they let people wreak havoc like that." Parish commented. "The police is out of the question then..let's go to Koxu, it's near the capital and the largest military base is there." Ian said.
"Koxu is really far from here..." Lena added. "It's the safest option when we don't even know what's going on right now. At least they should be able to give us some emergency shelter and protection ." Ian stated.
...
"Just like the asshole said, Koxu is the most optimal choice right now. We can stop by neighbouring towns and cities for food and supplies."
....
About 10 minutes of driving, Neo spoke up, "I have something to do." He said. "Hm?" I asked. "Stop the car." Neo said. I slowed the car down. "What is it, Neo?" I asked. "What now, Brat!?" Ian retorted. Neo opened the door and hopped out. "What are you doing?!" I snapped. "Just stay here with the others. I'll be back." He said.
I got out the car. "Where are you going?!" I asked. "It's nothing of your concern." He replied. "It is of my concern, Neo" I answered. "Stop pretending to be worried, Noah." Neo Tched. After some silence of thinking. "...fine..if you're not back in 15 minutes, I'll come looking for you." I said. "Don't bother." Neo made his way around a corner.
