Part 4

"Scott, wait up," Stiles and Alex called to Scott, making him look at the two.

"I'm playing first elimination, guys," Scott said. "Can it wait?"

Scott goes to walk away but Alex grabs him by the shoulders and allows her green eyes to stare into his brown ones.

"Just hold on, okay," Alex said, noticing Scott's blush. "Stiles and I overheard his dad on the phone. The fiber analysis came back from the lab in L.A. They found animal hairs on the body from the woods!"

"Alex, I gotta go," Scott said, shifting under Alex's hands.

"Wait, no!" Stiles said, trying to get Scott's attention. "Scott! You're not gonna believe what the animal was!"

Stiles stops with Alex next to him as Scott walks onto the field. "It was a wolf…," Stiles said, his voice barely above a whisper.

"Good luck with him," Alex said before the coach called the boys to the field.

Stiles nodded and walked over to Coach Finstock as Alex made her way to the bleachers. As she walks over to the bleachers, Alex finds Allison. She walked over to her as Allison waved at Scott.

"Got a question, McCall?" Coach's voice rang from the field.

Alex could see Scott panic before he gave his confused response. "What?"

"You raised your hand," Coach said. "You have a question?"

"Oh. No," Scott said, his voice shaking from nerves. "I was just, uh…"

Coach then went on with practice like normal, trying to get the boys to realize how important first-line is.

"So, what brings you here?" Alex asked, getting Allison's attention.

"Huh?" Allison asked.

"What brings you to the lacrosse field?" Alex asked.

"I just… lacrosse looks so cool," Allison said.

"It is, trust me," Alex said, earning a confused look from Allison. "I practice with Stiles and Scott sometimes. It's really fun and I wish I could join."

"Why don't you then?" Allison asked.

"Because "lacrosse is for boys" and "girls should just stick to their girly things"," Alex said.

"You've actually been told that?" Allison asked.

"Yup," Alex said. "But, it's even more messed up that Coach agreed."

"He did?" Allison asked.

"Yeah," Alex said. "That's why I just stick with helping Scott and Stiles practice. It's the only way I can play."

"I'm sorry," Allison said.

"It's alright," Alex said.

"I noticed that you bring Stiles and Scott up a lot," Allison said. "You guys are friends, right?"

"Yeah, they're my best friends no matter what," Alex said. "I like to let Lydia think she outranks them but she really doesn't."

"Why's that?" Allison asked.

"Because Stiles and I have been friends since I can remember," Alex said, a smile on her face. "When we entered third grade, Stiles met Scott. We all clicked immediately and now we're like the Three Musketeers."

"That sounds great, but when did you and Lydia become friends?" Allison asked.

"The beginning of middle school," Alex said. "It's when Stiles started liking her and I wanted to know why. So, I started getting closer to her and we eventually became friends."

"Nice," Allison said.

"Yeah…," Alex said, her focus suddenly going to the lacrosse field where Scott was sprinting down the field and twisting and turning to keep it away from the other players.

Then Jackson appeared out of nowhere and knocked Scott to the ground. Alex watches Jackson raise his helmet up and smirk at Scott which makes Alex angry. Apparently it makes Scott mad too because he gets up and runs after Jackson.

The two are now face to face in the center of the field for the lacrosse equivalent of a kickoff. Alex can practically feel the hatred from one to the other as Coach blows the whistle. Scott easily takes the ball before Jackson can even react and sprints down the field. He is spinning around other players and even jumping over some. Eventually, he does some badass flip over three players and shoots the ball into the goal. Alex watches in shock as the ball flies between the goalie's legs and actually into the goal.

Scott himself gasps as Coach calls him over.

"McCall! Get over here!" he yells.

Scott runs over to Coach at the same time Alex does. Scott takes his helmet off as Alex patiently waits to hear what Coach has to say.

"What are you doing over here, Roberts?" Coach asked. "I thought I specifically asked for McCall."

"You did," Alex said. "But I wanted to hear it too."

Coach rolled his eyes before turning to face Scott. "What in God's name was that?" Coach asked, referring to what Scott did on the field. "This is a lacrosse field. What, are you trying out for the gymnastics team?"

Scott shook his head. "No, Coach."

"Then what the hell was that?" Coach asked.

"I don't know. I-I was just trying to make the shot," Scott stutters.

"Well, you certainly did that," Alex smirked.

"Shush, Roberts," Coach said, clearly annoyed with the girl. "Guess what, McCall."

"What?" Scott asked before Coach smacked his arm.

"You're starting, buddy," Coach said, squeezing Scott's shoulder. "You made first-line and made your girlfriend proud."

Scott's face turned red. "She's not my girlfriend."

"Then why's she always in your business?" Coach asked.

"I-I," Scott said, trying to find his words.

"Nevermind. Come on," Coach said, taking Scott over to the rest of the team.

Everyone starts clapping except for Stiles and Alex, both of them knowing that something wasn't adding up.

"Come on, Alex," Stiles said, getting bored of the team clapping for Scott.

Alex nodded and followed Stiles to his Jeep.

Stiles tossed his stuff in the back and got into the vehicle as Alex did the same.

"Do you know what came over him?" Alex asked.

"Nope," Stiles said, starting the Jeep.

"Are we going to look it up?" Alex asked.

"Yup," Stiles said, starting to drive out of the parking lot.

"Do you think he's a werewolf?" Alex asked.

"I don't know, Alex," Stiles sighed. "Let's just get back to my house, okay?"

"Okay," Alex said, slouching in her seat.

When the two got to Stiles' house, he shut the Jeep off and immediately ran up to his room. Alex followed and watched as Stiles started looking up werewolves. Alex flopped onto Stiles' bed before flipping onto her stomach and grabbing a werewolf book.

After maybe five minutes, Stiles gasps and Alex hears him start printing something.

"What'd you find?" Alex asked, needing to know.

"Look," Stiles said, showing Alex what he had found.

Alex studied the old sketch Stiles showed her. It showed a hunter aiming a crossbow at some sort of wolf. The strange thing was that the wolf was standing up on two legs like a human.

"Do you think?" Alex asked.

"Maybe," Stiles said.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door which startles the two. Stiles walks over to his laptop and closes it before walking over to the door and opening it. Upon seeing Scott, he sighs in relief.

"Get in," Stiles said, allowing Scott entry. "You gotta see this thing."

"Stiles and I have been up all night reading- websites, books, all this information," Alex said as Scott places his bag by Stiles'.

"How much Adderall have you two had?" Scott asked.

"A lot," Stiles said at the same time Alex replied with, "It's coffee."

"It doesn't matter anyway, okay?" Stiles said. "Just listen."

Scott sat down next to Alex on Stiles' bed. "Is this about the body?" he asked. "Did they find out who did it?"

"No, they're still questioning people," Stiles said.

"Even Derek Hale," Alex said. "The guy we saw in the woods the other day."

"Oh, him?" Scott asked.

"Yeah," Stiles said, stretching the word out.

"But, that's not it, okay?" Alex said.

"What, then?" Scott asked, frowning in confusion.

"Remember the joke from the other day?" Stiles asked.

Scott nods his head.

"Well, it's not a joke anymore," Alex said. "The wolf, the bite in the woods…"

"We started doing research," Stiles said, taking over and pacing around his room. "Do you even know why a wolf howls?"

"Should I?" Scott asked.

"It's a signal," Alex said. "When a wolf's alone, it howls to signal its location to the rest of the pack. So if you heard a wolf howling, that means others could have been nearby. Maybe a whole pack of them."

"A whole pack of wolves?" Scott asked, trying to grasp what he was being told.

"No," Stiles said, taking a slight pause before continuing. "Werewolves."
