Chapter V

"My lord, a message has come from King Gayyus of Oldor," Demetri, the messenger said handing the scroll to King Ayden.

It read;

"To King Ayden,

Your daughter got married and I wasn't invited, oh well happy married life to her.

My patience is running out Ayden. I have waited long enough. Give me what I ask and there would be no war.

Signed,

King Gayyus."

"Nonsense!" King Ayden was almost seething as he flung the scroll.

"Sire what has he written?" Zedicus asked showing concern.

"He wants the Golden Glow. It's the third scroll he's sending," King Ayden replied sadly.

"That's impossible, it grows in the Ayara forest only here in Dralde," he said dreadfully.

The infamous King Gayyus. He was a man driven by greed, deriving joy in taking what other kingdoms held dear.

"This will be the last thing he tries to take from anyone," King Ayden assured with flames in his eyes.

"Tell him the Golden Glow stays in its place," he said firmly.

"Ready the soldiers! Gayyus can only be trusted as far as one can throw," he added as he started for his throne.

When he told his Queen of the impending war, she kissed his forehead and prayed for his victory.

When Gayyus received the message he let out a mirthless laugh.

"So Ayden does not want to give in. He doesn't know who he's up against." He said with a scowl.

"Prepare for war!" He ordered.

King Gayyus began to send his men to Dralde. On the third day after he received the letter he and his men marched on their horses to the battle field, then he ordered an arrow to be shot indicating their presence. Those with the ability to manipulate the earth from King Ayden's army made it quake frightening the horses as they drew closer, sending Gayyus's men off their backs and Ayden's ambush arose quickly out of their places. Gayyus didn't see this coming and half his men were killed right before his eyes.

Enraged he pulled out his sword and struck King Ayden from behind as he charged.

"No..." Zedicus screamed at the sight of this.

"My King!" He cried as he ran to his friend.

Arden turned to see his father fallen from his horse. As Gayyus turned to run, he dropped his sword and picked up a bow, aiming an arrow at him without a miss, piercing his skin as it went through his heart. Teary-eyed Arden ran to his father pulling him close.

"A proud father you have always made me, I'm at peace knowing my people will be in safe hands." King Ayden said as he breathed his last.

"Father! No!" Arden shuddered as he hugged his father tight.

Zedicus shot three flaming arrows into the sky. The first arrow signified their victory. The second, the killing of the enemies' King. The third, their fallen King.

On seeing the third arrow, the guards standing on the palace walls began to blow trumpets. The sound of the trumpets sent tingles down Queen Ara's spine as she braced herself against the wall with tears in her eyes, her King was no more.
