As snow fell from the sky, music blasted in the air.
Everyone passing nearby F town's city square paused to take in the sight.
Three munchkins danced side by side in thick costumes.
A snow angel. An angry polar bear. And a snowman. All wearing sunglasses, the three danced the choreography of a popular boy group.
"How cute!" Many people took pictures, but among them all, a young woman in a white female elf costume never moved the camera away from them.
As the three proceeded to sing "Silent Night", the people's hearts melted, finally, they began to notice the red briefcase before them and threw in their money.
"Tired?" Their supervising elf approached after the last song ended.
In response, the angry polar bear kicked the briefcase shut.
"Cold?" The elf asked them.
The three shook their heads.
The female elf grinned.
"Hungry?"
The snow angel bent down to pick up the suitcase and handed it to her.
"You know it already, Mama!"
The three crowded around it. "Check and see if it's enough!"
"Is it enough to go?"
The children held their breath as their mother inspected the suitcase and nodded.
"It's enough!"
The three munchkins jumped for joy and clapped their gloves.
"I want dim sum!" (Snowman)
"Nooo! I asked for barbequed ribs first! You can't change your mind now we're going to King Su's Palace!" (Angry polar bear)
"Do they have dim sum there?" (Snowman)
"I-I-I... want... chicken soup..." Snow angel shyly muttered but his brothers didn't hear. His mother stooped to rub his back, shooting him a supporting look.
The supervising elf, Su Ines smiled. Chicken soup was the cheapest option, as expected only the youngest would think of Mama's wallet.
"Where did I raise children with such expensive tastes? Don't worry, the videos in the past made enough as well, this money we'll use for you as your hard work. Happy Birthday, my Darlings."
As the three rejoiced and ran down the sidewalk to the crosswalk, Elf Mama followed suit.
Six years ago she remembered nearly losing her mind when the doctors pulled triplets out of her.
How could she afford it? She was completely on her own.
But God took pity on her, blessing her with three intelligent sons.
Su Ping(duckweed- her medicine), the child currently dressed as a snow angel. He was the youngest, shyest, and most sensitive of the three, he cried the most. Once he got older he would always trail after her like a lost duckling, he liked to mimic his mother early on and ended up cleaning up the house even in her absence, sometimes even going so far as to bring her snacks on a tray when she insta-crashed on the couch after returning from work.
Su Yang(means sun), the angry polar bear fitted his temperament. As a baby, he hit the most, even before he was old enough to walk it was clear he had an angry temperament. Though he was the middle child he was the healthiest of the three. As a toddler, his strong handshakes startled people. He had good motor skills and high energy that constantly needed to be plugged into a productive activity so he wouldn't wreak havoc out of boredom and drive her nuts.
Su Zian(son of peace), when the snowman was a baby he rarely cried. At first, she thought there was something wrong with him. Whenever he did cry it was because his younger brothers disturbed him whether it be pooping their diaper next to him or kicking him in his sleep. He was the oldest of the triplets, and the most intelligent. People often make the mistake of assuming he's shy, he just prefers watching from the sidelines like an immortal scholar. His favorite past times were reading, people watching, and accompanying her when she watched tv dramas.
King Su's Palace.
A family restaurant that recently earned more fame recently, they haven't been in a while. Why did this place have to be the one her children set their target on?
Su Ines smiled as the staff told them they had to be formally dressed to enter. Not only had the interior changed... so had the staff.
The big plump old madam who would call out to the triplets and greet them with a warm smile was now a skinny young man trying to hide his sneer.
"I had a feeling it might end up like this..." She muttered as she had the boys change in the corner of the bushes out front, they were short enough to be veiled from sight but she, unfortunately, was not.
As she took off her hat and elf ears, she felt a pair of eyes on her.
She nearly fell over.
Where did such a handsome-looking pair come from?
One was a bespectacled bishounen while the other surpassed the danger levels of devilishly handsome breaking through the barriers of adonis. Couldn't tell if he was glaring at her right now or that's just his face.
She smiled politely and dipped her head in greeting.
At that moment a beautiful woman, dressed in a pink mini dress with a glittery pink shawl caught up to the two and hooked her arms with that person.
The woman brightly smiled as she playfully tilted her head. "So you were waiting for me!"
The three moved on.
Su Ines quickly removed her elf stockings and unbuttoned her elf coat, to drape down her shoulders like a shawl revealing a simple but elegant black dress. She didn't need to remove much yet for some reason her cheeks felt so warm.
She thought her sense of embarrassment had become a bit dull ever since she became a mom but... it's more like she felt she saw someone she shouldn't have seen.
Rare human species like that... should stay uptown and stick to their land of photoshoots, magazine pages, and tv dramas. Make the nation look good. Otherwise, if they came out in public like this anyone would be put to shame by their beauty just from standing near.
Her boys finally emerged from the bushes. Their costumes were tucked away into the red case.
"..." The greeter looked them up and down seemingly wanting to say something but instead closed his mouth. How did they manage to change so fast?
They were shown to a table tucked away in the far corner of the room. As Su Ines looked around she couldn't help feeling self-conscious as she took in the young groups of people, the traditional simple furniture that had been swapped out with traditionally suave furniture.
As her triplets discussed what to order her attention was diverted.
"Where're the Barbeque ribs?!" When Su Yang saw his favorite ribs weren't on the menu in their usual spot his voice rose.
She could make out a couple of heads turning.
Su Ines quickly flipped through the menu.
"Fourth page."
"They don't have chicken soup anymore..." Su Ping had been intently staring at the menu but when he didn't see his favorite either his shoulders sagged.
Su Ines flipped through the menu.
"It's true, they really took it off? Such a simple dish..."
Su Ping scooted his back against the booth chair, his small lips frowning. Unlike the rest of his brothers, he didn't ask for an expensive dish. So why was only his favorite taken off the menu? The Universe was conspiring against him!
"If they don't have your favorite soup then just order another soup and some chicken, see you like garlic chicken don't you?" She leaned over to show him her copy of the menu. "Hmmm...Hmmm?"
She blinked at the menu.
"There's no soup? Impossible, let me look again." She looked again, however, there was none.
Suddenly the menu was taken from her hands.
"?!"
The person behind her, her mind went blank seeing that it was the devilishly looking man from before. He went in earlier than her so what was he doing here...
He flipped through the menu. After checking it, he took his own menu and tossed it onto hers.
"Yo Hai." He handed the menu to the bespectacled man sitting across from him.
The bishounen looked it over, his brows knitting. "I'll...go talk to the new owner right away." That person quickly left.
"...um, thank you. Su Ping, take a look." Su Ines forwarded it to Su Ping.
"It's here!" Seeing the menu his eyes lit up and sparkled like a Christmas tree.
Once the waiter arrived, they ordered right away.
Behind them, the woman from before spotted her target.
"There you are Mr. Feng Weizheng! What're you doing here sitting at another table all by yourself?"
That man just took a sip from his glass of wine in silence, it was as if he had neither seen nor heard her.
"I can sit with you!"
"No need." He held up a hand and she froze in place.
The man gestured towards those sitting behind him almost reluctantly.
"Can't you see? I'm here... with my family."
"Family?" That gorgeous woman's sweet expression wrinkled like that of a raisin, she craned her neck to get a look at the woman.
He watched her go a bit worriedly, cringing from his own desperate lie. As he tried racking his brains for a quick excuse, that woman really went right up to the table.
Wasn't she the woman standing out front by herself earlier? So many kids... where'd they come from?
Her eyes were a strange grey color that looked slightly purple. A rare sort of eyes that only a famous actress from the west, Elisabeth Taylor was known for. The woman wasn't bad to look at her clothes weren't too either but the brand... did it even have one, Wasn't it basically rags?
How could the wife of such a capable man, go around in public dressed so cheaply?
At that moment, the waiter returned with some of their food, and they began to eat.
"Excuse me, Mrs. Feng?"
The woman ignored her.
"Mrs. Feng?" she tried again.
Again, ignored.
"Are you ignoring me?!"
A peeved woman suddenly stepped up to their table frowning at her. Su Ines blinked in confusion and slowly pointed at herself.
"Are you... talking to me?"
"Yes! I called you so many times! Are you deaf or can you not speak Chinese?"
"You... were...calling me? Do I know you?"
The woman smiled bitterly and put her hands on her hips.
"Are you ignoring me because I made a pass at your husband?"
Su Ines' eyes widened even more. "H-husband?!"
Su Zian spoke calmly after swallowing a piece of steamed bun. "Lady, you're confessing your sins to the wrong person."
The woman looked to the child as if noticing him for the first time. He continued to speak without so much of casting a glance.
"When you commit a sin, you should go seek forgiveness from God or a priest." Su Zian's words were spoken so clearly and calmly, the woman was left speechless for a couple of seconds.
She looked to Feng Weizheng who turned around completely to take stock of the trio for the first time, his eyebrows raised as a smirk tore across his face.
Su Ping swallowed a spoonful of soup as he paused to think. "Mommy isn't that called adultery?" He had heard his mother rave about something similar when watching her soaps before.
Honeydew seemed to be pouring out of her eyes as Su Ines smiled and nodded. "Yes."
"Adultery is a sin." Su Ping echoed her signature saying before he blew on his soup and slurped it up once more.
Su Yang held up a finger, the corners of his cheeks were covered with barbeque. "Shhh, don't talk to it, she's a dirty woman," he whispered.
Disgusted Su Zian handed him a napkin seconds before Su Ines reached across the table with another. He accepted both but used it on his stained hands, oblivious to his face.
"Dirty woman?" Su Ping tried to whisper but failed as he was still audible.
The woman's face flushed white then pink. To think she would end up getting spurned by children!
"Mommy shouldn't talk to her either." Su Yang loudly whispered.
"I. . ." The woman started to speak but when no one looked her way, she clenched her fist. "D-don't think I've given up!" She looked at Weizheng who eyed his drink carefully as she stomped past.
Su Zian watched her go as he nibbled on a bun.
"Shameless..."
Su Ines tried to reign in her smile, they were just parroting her opinion from when she ranted about the soaps she watched, but to be able to recognize and apply what they learned here she felt proud. She contained herself as she tried processing what the woman was so upset about.
"I think... there was a misunderstanding. I'm getting a bad feeling let's quickly eat and get out of here before she comes back, okay?"
The three nodded in unison.
After the take-out boxes and containers arrived and were packed into a bag, she stood up only to bump backs with the person sitting behind her.
"Pardon me, Sir."
