Time for Fuel

Jessica ran down the stairs to see the table packed with mounds of her and Purdy's favorite foods. Not bothering with the normal thanks or anything she sat at the table and began to eat.

Her mother bringing over another dish kissed the top of her head and placed a red steamed fish on the small table next to Jessica's chair for Purdy to eat. He at least meowed his thanks before digging in. Jesse had talked things over with Jewlreld and decided to stay with Jessica as her personal assistant for the foreseeable future. Jewlreld was having no trouble keeping up with the kids on his own and agreed Jessica needed help. Her nurse P.A.I.L. sent her apologies as she had decided to a new post.

"Jessica," Jesse said sitting down next to her at the table. Her mouth was way to full as she had just stuffed a large roll into it and was still working the whole thing in. She looked his way and he continued speaking, "I am going to stick with you for awhile. I could use a break from chasing all the kids around and I miss your company." None of this was a lie and Jessica knew his other intent without him having to say it. She nodded as she chewed the roll down enough to swallow. She tapped her chest lightly with her fist to help in down and she gasped.

"Thanks for the help," Jessica said to him smiling, "I have missed you too, but didn't you always say chasing around 100 kids wouldn't be half as hard as chasing me around?" The gold flecks in her eyes sparkled as she gave a small laugh.

"I still maintain that that is true," Jesse said tugging at her left braid a little and handing her a glass of almost apple juice. She swallowed half of it in 3 seconds. "Tsk ahhh." She was very happy at this exact moment having set aside the drama of the fight earlier in order to eat drink and be merry she knew that they would have a counseling session in the coming days and that would be the first step in the healing process. Nearly every conflict that had ever risen between two or more people on Karth could be solved by talking through their issues in a safe environment and coming to mutual understanding. Those that couldn't issue challenges to 'mortal' combate and fight with their bodies instead of their words until both parties vote to discontinue or one of their health bars sinks to red. These fights were public events and everyone responded to each differently.

Mr and Mrs Strongwell satisfied that Peter would not come back until their appointment removed the protective spells around the house and Jesse deactivated his metal barricade. Mrs Strongwell called Alohra told her about the fight. Alohra called Harmon who was still with Arholo as they were exercising the dragon.

"Jessica needs our support right now," She told them, "Peter freaked out over her rejection."

"We will head over there at once," Harmon said hanging up and began walking to the telepad. They were showing the new dragon the mostly forested terrain on the moon contenant and had been planning on showing it the marshland of the Star contenant next but that could wait for now. They were near the teleport pad and waited in line for their turn. As soon as they arrived on the Sun conentant the dragon flew off with great speed.

"Where the hellscape is he going," Harmon exclaimed. He had grown very attached to the creature in a short time and he was frightened because it had only taken small short slow testing fight so far.

Arholo who had observed its direction said, "Don' worry laddy she is heading towards her namesake at breakneck speed."

Jessica was shovelling noodles in her mouth when the dragon came crashing through the front window. It crashed into the couch and immediately began shaking itself off. Jessica grabbed another roll as she got up and walked into the living room. Her eyes grew wide seeing not only the broken safety glass all over but the baby dragon hopping onto the back of the couch shaking some of it off itself.

She reached down to pull out her wand and fix the window and paused when her hand came back empty.

Jesse holding her wand and standing a meter away from her said, "No unnecessary magic."

Jessica swallowed what was in her mouth and frowned, "Broken glass needs to be cleaned up right away. Using magic is the fastest way to do that and repair the window."

"You are not the only one who can use magic in this house young lady," Her mother said taking the wand from Jesse and casting a repair spell.

Jessica giggled at her mother's use of her wand, it was almost a perfect imitation.

"What are you giggling at? You think you are the only one who plays with wands? How do you think you are so skilled?," Her mother said and then she stuck her tongue out and crossed her eyes.

Jessica smiled as her father walked up and took the wand from her mother. He used it to cast a spell that made Purdy's dinner flop on the floor so he could play with his food while he ate.

"We all went through our own wand phases in our younger days you know," He said giving her a wink and then giving her mother a quick kiss on the cheek. Jessica took bite from the roll and started scratching the dragon's head. It pushed into her and so she bent her fingers and gave it a noogie. The dragon began to playful hop around the room. Jesse created a holographic squeaky toy that looked like a bird and tossed it into the air. The dragon half flew up to catch it. Once it had it in it jaw it bite down hard and was surprised by the noise it shook it hard but no matter how hard it attacked the toy would regain its shape. When Jessica was pulling it from the dragons mouth Harmon and Arholo showed up. She stumbled back a step when the dragon let go to fly to them and it landed perching itself on Arholo's head. If I was ever going to enter a marriage with multiple people I could do worse than these two dragon daddy's she thought giggling softly.

"What cha laughing at there, Missy?," Arholo asked having a sneaking suspicion it was not very nice.

"I was just wondering, now that you two have a child together, when is the wedding?," Jessica asked as Alohra arrived. Alohra having no context for this other than question just asked by Jessica began laughing.

"I could do a quick shotgun wedding right now," She said pointing to her tiara.

"Laugh all you want but it's not like we haven't discussed it," Harmon said standing a little straighter and taking a serious tone. Jessica, who had just taken another bite of the roll was stunned. Her jaw dropped and the unchewed bite began falling to the floor. The dragon darted off Arholo's head and caught it mid air as Harmon took a picture with his phone.

"And that is now my screen saver," He said laughing.

"Send that one to me," Mr Strongwell called out. Harmon did and Mr. Strongwell adjusted and fiddled with his holo pad for a few seconds and then on the wall behind Jessica a framed version of her was hanging. Jessica was looking at the dragon a little worried.

"Is it ok for her to eat bread?," she asked, hoping the answer wasn't a fierce no.

"Tis alright as long as she fills her belly with mostly meat it tis early days and her body needs the enzymes and proteins to grow. The bacteria in the bread might even help her digest her meal a bit better," Arholo said. He had known all of this before speaking to the vet but had wanted to verify his magic with science.

Jessica nodded her understanding shove the rest of the roll in her mouth and gave each of them a quick hug and went back to the table to eat some more. They joined her at the table and they started talking about how cute the dragon was laughing and joking for a good long while. When Jessica had eaten her fill. She leaned back in her chair and patted her belly.

"All filled up for now," she said happily.

"Don't go for so long without eating again, you know how your father worries," Her mother said.

"I seem to recall it was you shouting at me," Jessica teased her. Mrs. Strongwell just shook her head and smiled.

Jessica's phone rang and she answered it. No one else in the room knew what to do when she suddenly teleported away. She came back with two very cold still shivering young dark elf children. Her mother called her holo medical bag with a voice command and set about treating them.

Jessica sat back down and said, " Ok where were we?"

Harmon recognizing the boy and the girl was out of his seat walking over to them and Jesse was making blankets and soft chairs for the children to sit in.

"The hellscape kind of phone call did you just get?," Alohra said her eyes wide with surprise. She felt worried and relieved at the same time.

"Oh, one of the things I did when I figured out I could teleport now was right a program into the main system to alert me if anyone was in mortal danger," Jessica said as though it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"Are you fucking kidding me right now," Her father who really couldn't blame as this was clear a nessary use of her magic the children's hp was below the half way mark and yellowing.

"Look I know I am supposed to take it easy for a couple of days it isn't my fault these two teleported to the wrong location and instead of returning decided to go exploring an unknown to them island," Jessica said feeling a bit peckish, "Besides I came right back. Mom can get them out of danger and then you can walk them to the hospital."

"I will call their parents," Harmon said, "They must be worried sick."

Jessica ignoring the fact that her phone beeped awarding her yet another useless fucking title turned to her mom and asked, "You got them right?"

"Yes, of course I do," her mother said as Jesse fetched some of her remedies from her office space. She was always very well stocked.

Dr Smith who was still in the area saw the title and rushed back over.

"Why the hellscape are you receiving titles when I expressly…..," She stopped talking losing interest in what she was about to say and began helping Jessica's mom treat a rather large cut on boys arm that had been hidden under his jacket. Everyone focused on the kids for a while except for Jessica who began eating a piece of cake. She smiled lovingly at the caring people in her life and when she saw Jesse had nothing left to do she raised her empty milk glass at him. After all she was under doctors orders to take it easy.

After she finished her slice of cake she gave her mom a quick kiss and hopped on her dad in a bear hug.

"Daaadddyyy," she whined.

"Yes darling," He answered taking his eyes off the children and looking her in the eye.

"I am tired I don't want to walk all the way up the stairs," She said pouting.

"Well then I guess I will just have to carry you then," He said. She was asleep by the time her took her up the stairs and put her in her bed tucking her in. Purdy who had also eaten his fill jumped onto the bed and curled around head like a crown. He licked his master's forehead mewed softly and closed his eyes. Just for himself her father took a photo of this sweet moment. He had a sinking feeling he wouldn't be getting many more of them for a long while. His daughter's already incredible powers where growing in ways no one would have thought possible. She had a mission to complete and even he as strong as he was with the history of his family supporting him just as it did her could not do anything to stop the long hard road ahead from rising to meet her feet. He knew it was a little creepy because she was almost 18 now but seeing the peace on her face he pulled up a chair and watched her sleep. Sometime later his wife joined him. They fell asleep holding hands watching their daughter get the rest she was surely going to need.
