The Baby Who Left Her Alone

Taking out a small suitcase from inside her closet, Da-Jung threw the contents on the bed. There were various newborn sandals, shoes, clothes, toys… so many things were there.

And then there was this scanned photograph of the seed growing inside her belly. Da-Jung cried as she reminisced the feeling of holding her child in her arms.

An hour after she had given birth, Da-Jung had lost her child. At that time, no one was there was beside her. Not even her father, nor her mother nor Woo-Jin.

How much she wanted Woo-Jin to witness this? How much she wanted Woo-Jin to look after her when she was pregnant? But unfortunately, they were separated even before Da-Jung knew about the child growing inside her belly.

A month after her divorce, Da-Jung got to know that she was pregnant. She tried so many ways to come in contact with him in the hope that he would come back to her when she announces that he was pregnant.

She also knew that it was futile considering how she was the one after hearing such harsh words for her comatose father coming from Woo-Jin's mouth, agreed for the divorce. However, this single ray of light in her heart… advised her to look for him so that they could forgive one another and move on with the child together, like a family…

But it was all futile!

Somehow… Da-Jung took care of her own self. When she got to know that the baby was healthy, she started shopping for him. She knew that she had to pay the debt but all thanks to her mother's help, she bought many things for the child who was inside her belly.

While she shopped, she also hoped that her father would wake up to witness her giving birth to a beautiful child and also Woo-Jin would witness her…

But it was all a hope…

On the day when she went in labor, she so much wanted her mother or atleast someone close to her nearby her but that same day, her father's condition had worsened and her mother who was with her had to rush to her father's hospital to look after him.

With no one beside her, Da-Jung tightly clenched her fists and drenched in sweat as she screamed with pain to deliver the baby.

While screaming and yelling, she only had one thought that here she would deliver the child and there her father would wake up.

But…

An hour after the child was welcomed into the world, Da-Jung witnessed her child leaving this world in front of her eyes. And from her father's side, she heard from her mother… that her father still hadn't woken up.

Da-Jung cried hopelessly as all her hopes were shattered and that she had lost her child. It was an unbearable pain which Da-Jung had experienced alone, all by herself.

Losing a child after you see it enter the world and hold it in your arms was the most excruciating pain for a woman. It was the most painful thing… and Da-Jung had also experienced that.

How much she had wished that Woo-Jin would have been by her side then maybe her child would have been with her…

"Mommy is sorry for not being able to take good care of you!" She said while looking at the photo she had taken while holding the baby in her arms. "Sorry for everything, baby! Maybe if you had been here… you wouldn't have been able to witness what mommy is going through that is why God took you away from me! I love you so much and miss you a lot!"

Hearing a knock on the door, Da-Jung wiped her tears.

"Are you alright, Da-Jung? You have been inside from quite a long while!"

"I'm fine… I am alright, Sina!" Da-Jung stood up and opened the door.

Both Sina and Jinha walked inside with guilty faces. Noticing them, Da-Jung let out a laugh. "Hey! Stop making those faces and make me feel bad about it! I'm really alright."

She let out a small smile and Jinha looked at the things scattered on the bed.

"I'm sorry! I shouldn't have bought him here… it wasn't actually me who bought him but he wanted to come. I'm sorry for not knowing anything beforehand… if I had known I wouldn't have agreed to him."

Da-Jung lightly patted his shoulder. "It is alright, Jinha! You didn't know it before so, it isn't your mistake. Let's forget about it!"

"Was this your child?" Sina looked at the photo which was in Da-Jung's hand and asked.

Da-Jung nodded. "If it was alive, it would have been four years old by now!" She smiled as she imagined a young boy standing in front of her.

After talking for a while and cleaning everything together, Sina and Jinha left. Da-Jung felt a little bad for her friends because she had invited them but they couldn't celebrate much.

And she also couldn't understand as to why Woo-Jin wanted to come over. As she was going to call him to ask for the reason, she received a call from an unknown number.

Being a little hesitant, Da-Jung picked up the call.

"Yes?"

"Am I speaking to Byeon Da-Jung?" Da-Jung heard a weak manly voice and she frowned when she heard her name being called.

"Yes, it is me! You are?"

"Oh! That is great! I'm Yang Han Su, Yang Woo-Jin's father speaking."

As Da-Jung pictured Woo-Jin's father in her mind, she quickly greeted. "Ahh! Yes, father-in-law. How have you been?" Even if she was divorced with their son, Da-Jung couldn't call Woo-Jin's father without respect.

"I'm glad that I was finally able to get in contact with you." The man said while holding the woman's hand who was lying on the bed in a pale condition.

"Is something the matter, father-in-law? Do you need my assistance with something?"
