Chapter 2 – Wrong Earth, Wrong Century

Koro felt sleepy. He may have pushed his body a little too much. The roller coaster of emotions plus spellcasting at an early age have drained him. Before he fell asleep, he casted one more spell. A simple alarm spell that would inform him whenever that person spoke his name. Milly would cast this spell to people that she likes. That way they can call her when they need her help. He was unable to complete the spell because he run into a problem. What is his name in this world?

A peaceful sleep can really do wonders to a tired body. He woke up feeling refreshed. Maybe because this time he is not overwhelmed with emotion, but he noticed something. The design of the room, the clothes of the people, they all look different. Something is not right.

One of the many things Koro learned from his master is to calm down. Sometimes, what scares you is not the real problem. Well, now that he thought about it, this is a different earth. There will be many things that is different from his original world. Fashion being different is not a big deal.

A few minutes later he learned something. The people speak old English. This could be the 1800s. at least he can understand the language. It would take some getting used to but as a baby, he has a lot of time.

Koro finally learned his name. He is Arthur Black. His father, Christopher, was a merchant that volunteered to be one of the first people to settle in the newly colonized land in Africa. As one of the richest people in the settlement, Arthur has a lot of attendants. They are mostly slaves, though.

He has access to few spells, most of which are prank spells. Milly as a fairy is bound by the laws set by her Fairy Queen. Most fairy queens set age as the requirement for a fairy to learn spells. Every fifty years a fairy can choose to learn one skill. They can either learn from someone else or choose one spell from the collection of spells that the fairy queen knows.

Five years has passed, I realized long ago what happened during transit. To avoid the chaotic mana from entering my body, I destroyed my mana vessel. What I forgot is that Milly, who bonded with my soul as a fairy has her own mana vessel. This remains true even when she exists only in soul form and does not have a body. Fairies are manifestation of living energy.

Even without a physical form Milly can absorb mana. It is because of my bond to her that the chaotic mana was able to sense my body through my connection with her. It tried to enter my body and the magic circle used up the mana in trying to defend against the invasion of chaotic energy. 12 dragon hearts are powerful enough to resist this but unfortunately, we run into a space storm and some chaotic energy managed to enter and destroy my body.

Good thing that I used dragon hearts in the magic circle and my soul was preserved. When the magic circle entered this world, it forced my soul into this body to save me. That is also the reason why Milly did not see my mana vessel. I have yet to awaken the mana vessel of this body. Before awakening, an individual would only be able to possess mana. After the awakening, the mana vessel will be created. It is where one can store up his mana. The biggest difference is that a mana vessel can grow and take much more mana.

It's like a sponge. Every part of it can absorb water. That is the state of an individual before awakening. After awakening, mana vessel is created which is like a container. To use all the water in the sponge, one needs to use every part of it. This more often than not, damages the body. While an awakened individual one only needs to use the opening of a container to consume the water inside. Plus, it does not cause harm to the body.

I thought that my path to magic was destroyed. Having a new body literally means another chance in magic. When I became sure that I can create another mana vessel, I asked father to have my own house. I have my own room but it would be easier to hide my actions if I live in my own house.

Maybe because this is the first time that I asked for something, father easily agreed. He had his butler hire a lot of workers to rush the construction. He wanted the house built in time for my 5th birthday. After thanking him, I left the house to play.

I was not really playing though. The past few years I have been using what little spells Milly knows to obtain various things. Any fruit, any ore, stone or mineral, any plant and any animal. I made sure to make it look like I am just playing. But I really need to know if the things found in this world is similar to the other world. At the same time, I was looking for things that can be used for awakening.

After a few years, I finally found a few things that can be used for awakening. I wouldn't have asked for my own house if I haven't discovered materials to help me awaken.

After two weeks, my house was completed. It's a two-story house with a basement. Father smiled proudly as he presented me his birthday gift. Beside him is mother who is also happy for me. He gestured and 5 natives approached. They will be my personal attendants starting today. One cook, one maid, one assistant and two helpers.

After the small celebration, I ordered my attendants to take everything in my room and carry it to my new house. Father and mother left me alone to explore the house. Before they left, they reminded me to eat dinner with them. I nodded and rushed inside the house.

The process of awakening is actually simple. I finished it in a few minutes back in the other world. Master was proud of my talent. This time, however, I needed five whole hours to complete the awakening process. I know that the reason I took so long is due to the concentration of mana. Awakening is mostly done in a wizard tower where mana is concentrated.

It is all good though, seeing the mana vessel in my body. I can finally start my journey to magic. First, I will have to increase the size of my mana vessel. Then I would begin searching for materials to build my magic tower.

Milly's prank spells were enough for me to move around in the village unhindered. Now that I can use other spells then I don't have to fear anything. There's no need to learn or practice spells. Even if I was not an official wizard, I knew all the spells below official wizard. As for the spells for an official wizard, master was kind enough to let me read all the spell books. Although I didn't practice them because I don't have enough mana and my body cannot handle any spell backlash.

I don't care even if my talent is mediocre, I am the only wizard here. When I build my magic tower, I will set it to gather all the mana in the area. Mana is a resource that no one in this world knows. I can take all the mana and not fear offending other wizards.

My parents felt a change in me during dinner. I just told them that I am a new man, now that I have my own house. They laughed about it and let the matter go. After eating, I excused myself and left.

Now that I have my own mana vessel, I can retrain as a wizard. Now that I have my own mana vessel, I would not use my artificial mana vessel. I can still revive Milly. I need to become a real wizard first. Currently I am too weak to start any study on the souls.

In the morning I would read books and, in the afternoon, I would play and move through the village. Using some spells, I made people believe that one of my helpers died. I needed him to gather various herbs without alerting anyone. The herbs would be used to draw rune tattoos in his body to turn him into my warrior and worker.

Through runes, I can increase his strength and overall capabilities. Through my connection with him, I can navigate the area and search for an appropriate place to build my wizard tower. I also need him to look for other possible warrior/workers to gather resources for me.

At night I would join my warrior/workers in search for resources. I would then teleport the resources to my secret underground base. Which I easily dug using spells.

When I turned 8 years old, many people in the village wanted to go back in our home country. They all had enough and wanted to leave Africa.

Although father earned a lot while in the village, he also wanted to leave. He made some connections and as long as he capitalizes on it, he can increase his total capital a dozen times or more. This is the age of exploration and now that I am a little older, he can go back to his former business.

That night I talked with my parents and informed them that I wanted their help in buying the village. Since everyone wants to leave, they should be happy to sell me everything for half the price. I wanted to buy all the properties, business and even the slaves.

Father looked at me and asked where I would get the money. I informed that I found a gold mine and that should be more than enough for the whole village. He thought about it for a moment and then agreed. He even promised to give me the title tomorrow provided that the gold mine is real.

On the way to the gold mine, I talked with my father about my desire to remain here. I would just be ignored as a kid and I would not have the opportunity to run a community on my own. Plus, I still believe that there are many opportunities in this land that we have yet to take advantage. When I turn twenty, I will visit them. For now, I want to stay.

They checked the gold mine and prepared the agreement. With father, handling the negotiations, everything proceeded well. He even made sure that 10% of the gold mines profit still belongs to me. I am grateful. This gives me a source of income to run the settlement. Even if I am the only free man in the settlement and everyone else are slaves.

When everyone left, I gathered the slaves. A simple sleep spell and they all lost consciousness. I need them to work for me so I wanted to give them a little help. First, I healed their bodies. Then I casted several spell to increase their bodies' capability to the level of professional athletes. While the spell is working on their bodies, I went to the fields.

Because I spent two millennia as an apprentice wizard, I was the one that cultivated the fields of my master. Wizards cultivate herbs for their potions and plants for their wines. The years I spent taking care of the fields made me an expert. Master even created spells to make tending the fields easier.

Preparing the land for planting took only a few minutes. What took time is creating the protection for the fields. Spiders were my favorite. By evolving them a few times till I can manipulate their instincts. They will hide in the morning and patrol the fields at night. No matter how much insects enter the field, they can consume them.

Weather control, illusion and attack arrays would have to wait until I have created my wizard tower. Top quality magic ink needed for arrays require tons of mana. I can only create that in a wizard tower unless I become an official wizard.
