Chapter 62

A/N

Hope you guys enjoy this one hehehe ;)

Sahana P.O.V.

I looked back at Jai and smiled, "She's right."

I pecked his lips.

"I'm gonna go and speak now."

"You made a speech?" Jai asked.

"Does Sahana Karthik ever need a speech?"

Jai snickered.

I made my way to the stage and grabbed the mic.

"Hello everyone!" I spoke, causing all eyes to lock on me.

"I thank every single one of you who are here now and able to celebrate this special occasion with me and the rest of my wonderful team of hardworking employees."

"I wouldn't be where I am without them, as well as all the people I love, who are the other puzzle pieces that complete my entire picture."

"It's always been my dream to help people in any way possible."

"And I feel right now, that I have accomplished that."

"I made people feel happy."

"I made people feel confident."

"I made people feel fearless."

"But my job here isn't over."

"I still have a long way to go."

"And by words spoken from my dear secretary, Tara, 'This is just the beginning.'"

"So, raise your glasses, everyone."

"To the beginning!"

"To the beginning!" everyone responded.

I stepped down from the stage and felt two bodies wrap around me.

I beamed realizing who they were and immediately hugged them back.

"I can't tell you how proud I am of you, Sahana." Sami spoke.

"You've done so much at such a young age." Cassia said.

The warmth of their embrace made me more emotional than I already was.

"You guys I'm going to cry if the two of you don't shut up." I sniffled.

We hugged each other in silence, embracing the memorable moment we were experiencing.

I stepped back from both of them and admired what I was looking at.

"You two look so gorgeous."

They both posed, "Tell me something I don't know." they responded at the same time.

We all burst into laughter.

"Sahana!!" I heard from behind Sami and Cassia.

Kai and Sidharth came running and both hugged me at the same time, crushing my body.

"Congratulations!!" both spoke.

"Thmk yiu so mufh" my voice muffled.

My hands were the only things free, and all I could do was pat their backs in gratitude.

"Guys I can't breathe." I tried saying.

"Hm? Did you say something?" Kai asked.

"She can't breathe you idiots!!" I heard Cassia, and she pulled Kai's and Sidharth's bodies away from me. I gasped for air and rapidly breathed in and out.

"See, you dumbasses," Sami pointed to me, "You two almost killed Sahana on the most memorable day of her life to date." She smacked Kai and Sidharth in the head.

"Sorry." Sidharth said in a quiet voice.

"It's ok." I gave a thumbs up in assurance.

"Wait, where's Jai?" Cassia asked, looking around.

I also began looking and eventually caught him in an uncomfortable situation with my mother.

"Oh, god ma." I quickly walked to where they were and grabbed his arm, "Sorry ma I need him for a sec." and dragged him to where the group was.

"Here he is." I called out to them.

"Sorry about my mom." I whispered to him.

Jai shook his head, "Don't be."

"I love her already." He whispered back and pecked my cheek.

"You looked uncomfortable though?" a confused expression showed on my face.

"Because all she talked about was marriage and babies."

My mouth opened in shock.

You never fail to close your mouth do you ma?!

"It's ok though."

"I know that it's going to happen in the future for us anyway." He smirked and winked at me.

"Look at you two lovebirds." Sami smiled, hugging Cassia.

"Oh my god, it's just too perfect. I need to take a picture." Cassia took out her phone and clicked a photo of us smiling.

"Oh come on guys, smiling is so basic." Cassia looked unsatisfied, showing us the photo.

"Well then what do you want us to do?" I asked.

A smirk grew on Cassia's face, "Do something that shows your love for each other."

"Kiss."

"Dramatically."

I slapped my forehead, "Cassia, everyone is going to see this happen. Do you just want to embarrass me more and more by the day?!"

She completely ignored me and stepped back.

"OK, I'm going to take it in 3,"

"2.."

"Cassia, let's do something different I don't want to do th-"

Then suddenly I felt a hand sneak around my waist, and my body dipped back.

I accidentally yelped in surprise at the sudden action.

A hand caressed my cheek, and its fingertips touch the beginnings of my hair.

"1!"

Cassia spoke and immediately Jai's lips crashed into mine.

My body felt like it was going to melt.

I heard oos all around and people began clapping once Jai brought me up again.

"Perfect!" Cassia smiled.

My face was redder than a tomato.

Redder than the inside of a goddamn watermelon.

Thankfully, everyone began minding their own business after our little moment.

"Aw you're blushingg." Jai poked my cheek.

I slapped his finger away, "This is your fault. You always make me turn like this." I covered my cheeks with my hands.

Jai shrugged, "I just did what Cassia told us to do,"

He then leaned closer to me and whispered into my ear, "But that was only a glimpse of what I plan on doing in the future."

I thought my heart was going to jump up to my throat.

But I realized something else.

"Oh yeah,"

my voice became deep and dark,

"Cassia."

We made eye contact.

I glared at her.

I'm going to kill you.

Cassia's expression slowly changed into fear.

But before I could even take a step, I was held back by Jai, "Don't kill her. Let her live for tonight at least." He chuckled.

"HOW DID YOU KNOW I WAS THINKING THAT?!" I aggressively whispered.

"By this point, I know you inside out."

"Oh really?" I asked.

"Then what am I thinking of now?"

"Still killing Cassia."

"Fuck."

Jai wrapped his arms around my waist from behind and rested his chin on my shoulder.

"You tired? It's been a couple of hours already. The party is going to end soon right?"

I nodded in disappointment, "I wish I could have had it longer. I want everyone to stay," I pouted staring down at my heels, "But I am getting a little tired. These heels aren't feeling comfortable anymore."

"Oh, those were the same ones you wore to Blaire's party." I turned my head back and looked at him surprised, "Woah, how did you know?"

Jai smiled, "I pay attention to everything when it comes to the woman I am in love with."

"You seriously sounded like a stalker just now." I shuddered.

"Oh my god you're right." he put a hand over his mouth.

A laugh escaped me.

Then I heard the music change to soft tunes.

Couples around us began slow dancing to the music.

There Jai and I swayed together from side to side.

He gave me small kisses on my cheek.

"Hey." He whispered.

I looked up at him.

"I love you."

I smiled,

"I love you too."

9:45 pm

The party soon was coming to an end.

While Sami was distracted, Sidharth pulled me away,

"Hey, I need to tell you something."

"What is it?" I asked.

His hand went inside his suit and he pulled out a tiny box.

He slightly opened it, enough to reveal a sparkling ring.

My hands covered my mouth, "You're going to do it tonight?"

He nodded,

"Tonight."

Then the time hit.

The room we were in became more and more empty.

The decorations were being taken off.

The bartenders were wiping their final glasses.

Everyone exited the building.

And then the lights were turned off.

Jai parked his car in the apartment garage and we entered into the elevator.

He reached out and pressed the number that takes us to the top of the apartment building.

"What are you doing?" I asked in confusion.

"Just wait." He smiled.

We opened the door to the top and a rush of wind went through me.

Occasionally there have been some parties up here, but most of the time it's quiet and serene.

At night there are lights hanging all around the area, and there is a beautiful view of the rest of the city.

I spread my arms out wide, embracing the weather.

I turned back to Jai, "So why'd you want to come up here all of a sudden?"

"Close your eyes." He spoke.

I did as he said.

I heard the clicks of his shoes come close to me.

For some reason, my heart began beating rapidly.

Suddenly I felt something on my neck.

"Open." I opened my eyes and felt what was on me.

"Surprise. I hope you like it." Jai smiled.

I wore a simple yet beautiful necklace.

The chain was plain gold.

My eyes trailed down to what the chain was holding.

I picked it up to get a better look at it.

A rose gold ring twisted with a trail of diamonds was entangled with a plain gold ring that was slightly wider.

"It's our promise rings. In a necklace. So, I guess it's a promise necklace too?"

I beamed, "Oh Jai, this is beautiful. I love it."

My vision became blurry.

"Look up."

My eyes landed on him, wearing the same necklace.

"Now we're matching." He smiled.

Immediately, I covered my face as tears rolled down.

I felt his arms envelop me into a tight hug.

He stroked my head, "The rings resemble our promise to each other."

"With the ring being now around your neck and until the time comes, when it'll be around your finger one day,"

"do you promise to be my side?"

I wrapped my arms around him and nodded, "Yes, I promise."

I sniffled, "Do you promise to be my side until that ring around your neck will be around your finger?"

I brought my head up to look at him and waited for his response.

He smiled, nodding,

"Yes, I promise."

He then leaned in and our lips met.

Another tear rolled down my cheek as I felt the softness of them move along with mine.

Jai held my face and stared at me.

His thumb wiped away another tear.

"Who's the one crying now?" he snickered.

"Hey, I already told you this was probably going to happen when we come back. But I didn't know it would be because of this. I know this isn't even a proposal, and yet I'm this emotional." I sniffled.

"I can't even describe how thankful I am that my neighbor was you."

"My luck has never been good, but now I think it's changing."

"I'm sorry I never recognized you in the beginning."

"I'm sorry for acting so irrationally when I tied you up to a chair for an entire night."

"I'm sorry-"

I frantically spoke but was cut by Jai's lips once again.

He looked at me, "Stop saying you're sorry."

"Who in their right mind would sneak into someone's apartment at 3 in the morning?!"

"Me."

"I'm the crazy one."

"Not you."

"I was the one who caused a bad first impression."

"Not you," Jai moved a strand of hair that was on my face, and tucked it behind my ear, "Now stop being sad pleeassee. I haven't cried again yet, but you're this close to making me." he said gesturing a tiny space between his fingers.

I nodded, wiping my tears away.

Jai interlocked fingers with mine and kissed my forehead, "Let's go down." he smiled.

When you least expect it, things come barging into your life.

Whether you like it or not.

It could be good.

It could be bad. B

But, in the end, it's the way you look at it.

Love.

The emotion or feeling that you may receive regularly,

yet it still feels so foreign.

At times when it isn't there,

suddenly it emerges.

It comes when it is most needed.

Different types exist.

Different types are craved more than others.

It is something that can be perceived to be good or bad.

It can heal someone.

Or shatter them.

It can pull someone in.

Or push them away.

Love nonetheless,

is still love.

It can be shown in various ways.

Through flowers and expensive gifts.

Or through a plain hug and kiss.

It may be hidden.

For however long it desires to hide for.

But one thing is for sure.

It never leaves.
