Violet wanted to stay out conflict and just wanted to live a normal, simple life. Since she was a child, she was used to being treated differently. She was used to being left out by others. She has already encountered different rumors about her but she never once did anything about it. She chose not to. Besides, she rather stay quiet than to prove to others that they were wrong. It was only going to be a waste of time and brain cells... but... she could do something about it without really troubling herself much. She still has the photo and she was pretty sure that it came from Kiira, Jason's lover. She was sure that the other woman knew how her reaction would be considering that she was betrayed.
"Alright, but I'm not going to do anything. I will have you do it for me." She lowered her lunchbox, placing it on her lap. "Since you insist on wanting me to do something about it, you don't mind me using you, right?" The side of her lips curled up into a rare uncanny smile, a dangerous glint flashing in her eyes sending shivers down the other woman's body.
"T-that's..."
"You said that I can't just let that bastard have the upper hand, right? So are you going to help or not?" She raised a brow. The usually quiet and kind-looking woman was nowhere to be found.
Abigail couldn't help but think if a devil ended up possessing her sweet friend. "Y-you're not going to let me kill him, right?"
Violet ended up chuckling, "What? Of course not. I'm just going to let you spread another rumor... a rumor with proof that is."
Abigail's sparkled in delight when she heard of her plan. If it was spreading rumors, then that would not be a hard thing for her. She was not only a teacher but also was a famous mukbang streamer and blogger. She would usually talk about stuff while eating so spreading something was her specialty. She was one of those people who had a lot of followers on Weibo, including her fellow faculty staff.
She was the total opposite of Violet, with facial features that perfectly fit the society's beauty standards; small face, big eyes, pretty smile, perfect skin smoothness. She somehow reminder her of Raven's wife, Liliana, because of her hair and smile. There were times when Violet envied her for being beautiful. Their personalities were so opposite and yet, they ended up being best friends.
"Alright! Tell me what to do!"
...
The next day, Violet woke up early just so she could prepare for her 'date' with Lucas.
She didn't really put much effort into dressing up for that date. She wore a dark green long-sleeved blouse that was tucked in high waist jeans.
When she went inside the cafe, she saw Lucas already there and for some reason, he was surrounded by them as if being considered one of them.
Violet couldn't help but smile upon seeing the scene. She took out her phone and captured that moment since found it adorable. After she did, she kept her phone and walked towards him.
"Ah, my future husband is loved by the cats, I'm jealous."
He raised his head and grinned upon seeing her arrival, "And my future wife is finally here."
Violet went and sat on his opposite side and as she did, a cat jumped on her lap. "I guess I'm loved by them too." She mumbled with a small chuckle as she began petting the cat on her lap. "Anyway, do you keep cats in your place?"
"If you're referring to the regular house cats, no. The cats I have come and go. I just leave their bowls full and they just come whenever they want to, sleep whenever they want to. I take care of the strays," he said as he scratched the chin of one cat. "Cats and vanilla shake... what else do you like, Vivian?"
"I love reading books and playing the piano. How about you? Why don't you tell me more about yourself? Aside from knowing how to hold your drink."
"I like reading books and play volleyball." He replied, rephrasing her sentence. "Order what you like. It's my treat."
She looked at the menu list and happily ordered some food. She was already in a great mood after being surrounded by cats.
"What kind of work do you have?" Violet asked after ordering.
"I'll be working as a Chemistry professor starting next week. And you?"
"School nurse." She simply said. She decided to quit her job as a musical performer at the hotel since she knew that would need to change her schedule now that she was going to have this man as her 'lover'. "So, why did you want to meet me today?"
"It's for 'getting to know each other' phase. As I said, I still want to know what kind of woman I'm going to marry. And besides, I feel kind of bad you did not reply anything after sending you a message. Treat me well. I am still your benefactor after all." He crossed his arms, narrowing his eyes as he looked at her.
She quickly averted her eyes from his gaze out of guilt. She didn't really think that she should be giving him a reply tho when he already knew her name. "I... forgot." She said as an excuse. "Sorry, I was busy." She lied. "I'll try to be more attentive towards you from now on, Mr. Benefactor." She returned her gaze back to him and showed a shy smile.
"Good good. You better be." He took two brown envelopes from his side and placed it on the table. "I had myself tested and as for the contract, I've already done the trouble of printing it out. All I need now is your signature."
"I'm sorry for troubling you," Violet said apologetically before she looked at the results of the tests for STDs to which it all came out negative. After checking it out, she returned the papers to the envelope it belonged before she took out the contract papers. She carefully read it.
"Wait... we didn't talk about having 3 months dating." She looked at him with a frown.
"It's the period where we will have to get to know each other." He replied with a sly smirk. "I agreed with all your conditions so you have to at least allow me of this."
She grumbled and looked at that same sentence written on the paper. "Fine..." Three months should easily fly by, right? And it was actually going to be more convincing once she introduced him to her grandfather.
Other than that, she was satisfied with what was written so she took out a pen from her bag and signed in. After everything was settled, she gave the envelopes back to him.
"I haven't brought my medical certificate with me right now, is it okay if I send it via WeChat instead?"
"Sure, I don't mind."
Soon after, their orders arrived and they began eating. They weren't allowed to give cats the food they ordered that's why the cats were called to the other side so that they won't have a hard time eating.
"My brother was skeptical about this deal you know," Lucas said as he placed his fork down.
Violet paused from eating her pasta just so she could look at him, "That's a normal reaction. Besides, I will also be wary if someone suddenly asked me out of nowhere. You could have just declined my offer... what made you agree with me?"
"I don't know, amusement maybe? And besides, you're pretty, I think having you as my wife is a pretty good catch. I think out kids will look adorable." He rested his head on his palm before grinning a bit, looking so stunning like that.
Although Violet couldn't take his compliment to heart especially when she knew that she was not pretty at all if she didn't have makeup. It was actually thanks to it that she was able to boost her confidence even if it was just a little.
Although right now, she liked to play along with him. "I wonder whose genes are stronger, yours or mine?" She leaned forward and rested her chin on her palm, grinning back to him.
They somehow looked good together as they stared at each other that way, giving a perfect picture of a cute couple.
He couldn't help but let out a soft laugh at what she said tho. "There's only one way to find out." He chuckled. "Say, am I allowed to kiss you even before getting married?"
